“Think they will find the rest of him?” asks Abby.  She looks back at the spot where the foot had been.

“We should do that,” says Spencer.

“Hey, we are not going into those woods.  That’s treacherous territory and we are here to relax not dig up some mystery, Spencer,” says Abby.

Spencer sits on the ground and starts to work the wood into place for a fire.  “We just have to go in there with our powers,” mutters Spencer.

“Hey, do you like danger?” asks Tegan.  “I like living, Spence.  Really we aren’t body part hunters.”

Spencer’s jaw bulges in anger.  “One day, one day of following Rylee’s power into that forest.  One day, how many days has that guy been dead?  His family looking for him?  Missing him?  Wondering what…”

“This is personal, isn’t it?” says Rylee.  Rylee’s tone is soft.  Spencer had been lost once after her mother had been presumed dead.

            Spencer averts her eyes.

“You came looking for me.   Natalie came looking for me,” whispers Spencer.  “What if someone is looking for him?  They can’t find him with a foot.  They need more.  They need closure.”

Abby sits next to Spencer.  “With great power comes great responsibility and we should use that power if we can, so said Peter Parker.”

            “Exactly,” says Spencer.

Rylee groans.  “You know my powers work differently than my mom’s I see avenues of choice, if he thought about turning left I might pick that up instead and he actually went right.”

Tegan looks at Sydney.  “You’re take on it, music girl?”

“We went looking for two dead women once and found two live ones.  I say we spend a few hours tomorrow but we might find nothing.  Or we might find something.”

“Let’s eat,” says Tegan.  “First light we take off.  See if we can find a trace of foot boy.”

J*A*D*E*S

Mario slips into the warm bed and Emma is snoring lightly.  “Hey, Em?”

            “Hmmm?”

            “Em, wake up.”

Emma snaps awake, sitting up, turning the light on and staring hard at Mario.  “What?”

He is pale, his eyes show a sliver of worry.  “Something odd happened tonight.”

            Emma’s eyebrows rise in question.

“We were playing pool and I knew what shots would work and what shots wouldn’t.”

“You’re powers kicked in?” asks Emma.  She turns and cups his face lightly.  She kisses his lips and they are cold.  He is shaking.

            “Kicked in?  As in?”

“I saw the shots, that’s never happened before.  What stars aligned for that to happen?  Huh?  How do you live with knowing things?  How?”  His body shivers and Emma hugs him hard.
