“You know, for someone who hasn’t been doing a stitch of work, you are looking great Spencer,” jokes Becca.

Becca bends Spencer’s left leg at the knee, pushing back on the hip when she feels resistance.  Becca allows the resistance to increase.  Reinitiating the push, this time the push against her hand is harder; it isn’t a figment of her imagination.  “Spencer?”

Spencer takes a huge gasp of air as if she hasn’t been breathing, her blue eyes snap open and she pushes so hard against Becca that she stumbles back, knocking the bedside table askew.

“Holy!” says Becca, scrambling to the door, “Hey!  Hey!  We have a code, a code something!  Jesus Christ, Spencer’s awake!”

“Goddamn miracle if you ask me,” says Dr. Samantha Vance.

The nursing home where Spencer resides doesn’t have doctors on the floor; instead the local hospital provides them.  Dr. Samantha Vance routinely comes to Mount Catherine’s Nursing Home on weekly rounds.  Sam enjoys going to the nursing home, talking to the older residents and being able to work with CJ is a perk.

CJ Masters nods.  “I know, and she’s talking, Sam is this even possible?”

“Anything is possible, as you well know,” says Sam.  Her steel grey eyes scan the chart for as much information as possible.  Since birth every single level, vital sign has been perfect.  Other than her not waking up from her birth, Spencer Astin was as close to perfect as possible.  “Well, guess we’ll have to find out how miracle girl is feeling.”

Sam steps into the room, another nurse steps out and lets CJ into the room.  It is widely known that CJ and Sam are an item.  CJ is a gorgeous brown haired woman who can have anyone she pleases.  Sam is a rich tomboy doctor who can have anyone she wants.  They chose to have each other.

            “Hello,” says Sam.

“Hi,” says Spencer.  “Can you tell me what is going on?  That other nurse couldn’t, hell, wouldn’t tell me.”

“You woke up, that’s what is going on,” says Sam.  “I’m Dr. Samantha Vance and this is CJ Masters, she’s a nurse here.  We were wondering if you could tell us what you remember?”

“Waking up,” says the teenager.  Sixteen, Sam has to remind herself.  The teenager looks sixteen years old, yet the light in her eyes is that of a child.  “Some,” she begins, swallowing hard, “woman was pushing up on my leg and I woke up. Where am I?”

“Mount Catherine’s Nursing Home, you’ve been here for a long time.  You’ve been on IV’s and a feeding tube,” says CJ.  “You don’t remember anything?”

“I woke up!” yells Spencer.  A festering anger makes her skittish.  “I don’t know why I am, but I know I’m not Spencer!  Who the hell am I?  I don’t know anything!”

Silence overtakes the room.  “You’re parents died in a car accident, Spencer.  A few years ago you were brought here and we took care of you. They died before you were born, they never met you.  You have a grandmother and we’ve contacted her,” says Sam softly.
