Teenagers.... Friday's post!

s*t*a*r*s/J*A*D*E*S

Bev is sitting by the pool in her back yard, reading something about some of the guests that would be attending the fundraiser, getting the lay of the land when her doorbell rings.

Brow knitted in wonder, Bev gets up, and heads for the door, a towel wrapped around her waist, white bikini top bright against her dark skin.  Opening the door to reveal Spencer Andrews, “Hello, Spencer.”

“Hey, Bev, is my mom here?” asks the teen awkwardly.  Her hands in her pockets, obviously playing with the change that resides there, not really wanting to be here, but it where her mother is after all.

“No, she headed to New Mexico I think, you’re still in LA?” asks Bev, ushering the girl into the room.

Spencer reluctantly moves into the room, tossing looks around the house, “Yeah… something came up…”

“Came up or you didn’t want to go back to school?” asks Bev with a smile, wanting to put the girl at ease.

Spencer’s eyes narrow, flashing, almost changing color, Bev stares at her in wonder.

“We are hanging at the beach house.  I needed to talk to her, Jay called her cell but we didn’t get anything.”

“I have her work cell phone number if you need it?” offers Bev, keeping an eye on the girl.  This is the daughter of Jo Wheaton after all, the living, breathing vampire.  Jo had been honest with Bev from the get go that she was different.  Bev didn’t mind Jo being different, in fact, it is one of the reasons she is falling in love with her so easily.  Bev wonders idly if Spencer is as special as her mother is.

Spencer takes the phone that Bev dials, waiting for the phone at the other end to pick up, concentrating on not frying the electrical gadget.

“Hello,” says Jo at the other end of the phone, she is watching the man who’d kidnapped his children.  He’s yet to lead her to where he is living.

            “Mom?”

“Spence, what’s wrong?” Jo instantly replies.

“Nothing…”  Spencer eases away from Bev.

“You’re not in school,” says Jo, looks at the ID caller and seeing that she is at Bev’s house of all places.  “You’re still in LA?”

“Yeah, we had…,” begins Spencer, seeing Bev in the kitchen making tea, listening, “…we stuck around for a few days, with Jay.

Jo asks gently, “Is Jay okay?”

“Oh, yeah!  Um, listen, we lost Rylee and I know that you can, reach out and telepathically, um, find people?”

“I can.  Not sure I can find Rylee from where I’m at.  What happened?” asks Jo, getting up off the bench.

“She thinks I’m – I don’t want to talk about that right now, can you find her?” says Spencer shyly.  Bev walks over, offering Spencer a soda, and the girl takes it with a grin.

“I can, give me a second.”  Jo hurries into the bathroom, slipping into an empty stall.  “Think of her.”

            “What?” says Spencer awkwardly.

Jo refrains from laughing.  “Spencer, think of her, what she was wearing the last time you saw her.  I can telepathically connect with you and then find her power.”

“Oh, right!”  She closes her eyes then Spencer says, “What if I zap the phone?”

“You won’t.  You’re got a good handle on it just don’t be upset, think of something good.”

Muttering something under her breath in a language that Jo doesn’t recognize instantly.  She sees the flutter of an image and then lets her mind roam out, finding Rylee.

“Club, in LA – not Abandon – Oh, she’s at the Lost and Found.”

“That place?” croaks Spencer.  The Lost and Found was her mother’s pet project.  It was an underground BDSM club.  It was leather, and wood, and women, sexy women.  Spencer gulps hard.

“You’d better find her.  Ask Bev for my set of spare keys, the black one is the motor cycle in the back of the house.  Go get her,” says Jo.  “Spence, I have to go, guy I’m tailing is on the move, love you and take care of you.  Oh and wear your helmet!”

“Okay mom,” says Spencer, realizing that she called Jo, Mom, instead of Jo for the first time in a long time.  Jo snaps the phone closed and Spencer looks up at Bev, “Can I use the phone again?  And Jo said you have her spare keys and that I can take her bike.”

“Of course,” nodded Bev.  She gets the keys for Spencer and sits in the kitchen.

Spencer forces a smile, the phone connecting with whoever she’d dialed, “Emma?”

Across the country in Washington, D.C., Emma Scott says into her cell phone, “Jo?”

“No, it’s Spencer; do you know why mom went to New Mexico?”

Emma takes a breath, Spencer sounds exactly like Jo on the phone, the inflection, the sweetness of the tone, and the accent.  The accent for a moment was spot on.

“On a case, more than likely, what is this about, Spencer?  Why aren’t you guys in school?”

Spencer grimaces, Bev sitting there, arms crossed, watching and listening, “Did Rylee call you today?”

            “No, is she okay?”

“She’s mad, thought she’d have called you.  I know where she is, I’m going to go get her now.  She thinks I’m going to live forever and that seems to have freaked her out.”

“Where are you?” asks Emma, checking the ID caller, just as Jo’d done, but she doesn’t recognize the number.  “It’s enough to freak someone out, but she’s Rylee, she takes things to an extreme at times.”

“Bev Potter’s place, I was looking for Jo.  I didn’t have her other number, but her girlfriend did.”

“Her what?” blurts out Emma, calling attention to herself in her office.  Smiling shyly at her coworkers and ducking into a conference room.  “Say that again?”

“Girl…. Friend…,” says Spencer wryly, closing her eyes, having let the cat out of the bag.

“Are you outing your mother?” laughs Bev at the sight of the hot blush on Spencer’s face.

“…she’s listening?” asks Emma, feeling slightly embarrassed that she doesn’t know her best friend had a new girlfriend. Then again, she hasn’t really spoken to Jo.

            “Yeah….  I’m in her living room…  You didn’t know?”

            “No.”

“Don’t tell her I told you. If Lee calls tell her to stay put, okay?” asks Spencer.

“I will.”  They hang up and Spencer now calls Tegan, telling her where to go, but Spencer knows she will get there before she does.  Spencer is angry with herself, but just as angry with Rylee for leaving.  Spencer doesn’t get it.

“You don’t have to go, if you want to stay around a while, that’s fine,” offers Bev.

“Really should get going…,” says Spencer, pausing.  “You really like my mom?”

            “I do,” says Bev quickly.

            “She’s…. umm…,” begins Spencer.

“Different?” offers Bev.  Spencer nods and Bev says, “I know.”

Spencer pales, thinking for a moment, letting her mind wander out for a moment, “You know, know?”

            “I know,” says Bev.

            “About the whole…”

“Vampire thing?  I do.  The mind reading, the…  most everything, yes.”

“And still, you wanna be with her?” asks Spencer.  For the last few months, she’d been battling her own inner demons, wondering how anyone can be with such a freak like herself, but here is her mom, with a really great woman, making it work.  There might be hope for her after all.

A smile on Bev’s lips, “It’s one of the reasons I want to be with her.  Her being who she is, is part of what she is, and that’s one very nice package, if you take the time to unwrap it, and get to know a person.

Spencer chuckles, tucking a strand of blonde hair behind her ear, “I should get going.”

“Spencer?” asks Bev, as her phone begins to ring.

            “Yeah?”

            “Are you okay?”

Spencer thinks about that for a minute.  “Yeah, it will be okay.”  She jingles the keys for a minute and says, “Thanks.  Tell Jo I’ll bring her bike back ASAP.”

            “I’ll do that, bye Spencer.”

            “Bye.”

Mercy

5/31/04

Petrified of the shadows playing on the floor

Oddly shaped image of myself

Warped and skewed on the wall

Seeking within myself for a scrap of truth

Terrified that my voice will betray me

All the fibs I’ve told

Imploring you for evidence of your love

Do you see my childish tears?

I sold the paradise of your arms

For the lies of my forked tongue

Frightened to speak; as your astonished face stares at me

Sold all our dreams

For a taste of the forbidden

On fallen knee

Seeking you for evidence of faith

None I deserve

All of which you hold

Forgiven yet not forgotten

Transgression my folly

Mercy at Your hands

Rylee walks towards the backroom, her palms sweaty, her mind a muddled mess.  Spencer is immortal.  She’ll have eons to figure out her power and maybe find someone she can touch, can kiss, can love.  Instead, she is hanging onto Rylee who she can’t touch, can’t love.  Not the way they both want too.  It’s murdering Rylee in small slivers each time they touch and have to pull away from one another.

She isn’t sure why she came here, of all place, but the sweet smelling leather and the old wood only intoxicates her.  She is looking for something, but she isn’t sure what.

“Can I help you?” asks a very cute dark haired girl at her elbow.  Her head is at her elbow, she is kneeling on the ground, as if waiting for someone to pick her up and take her to a room to play with.  Then Rylee realizes with a jolt that is exactly what the girls waits for.

            “Um..Ohmmm, nope, all good.”

“How did you get in here,” asks another voice, this one from directly behind her.  She is a tall blonde woman with mischievous green eyes.  “I’m Doyle.”

“Oh, that you are,” mutters Rylee, swallowing hard.  “I got in with this.”  Rylee lifts her hand and opens it to reveal the JADES card that Spencer had gotten from the bartender a few weeks ago.

Doyle smiles, crazy sexy laugh lines appear.  She inclines her head to the left indicating for Rylee to follow her.  Rylee does, tossing a glance back at the girl that had been at her feet.  What was she doing here?”

“I highly doubt that Jo was thinking any of your would venture down here,” says Doyle sweetly.  “What do you need?”  They enter a small room that is hidden from the main floor, but has a large bed.  Rylee sees the handcuffs on each bedpost.  She’s lost what is left of her mind.

“A girl,” says Rylee.  Oh god, what is she doing?  She resists touching anything so that she doesn’t get a flash of what is going on.  No, she won’t taint this with knowing the future.  No, not happening.

            “What kind of girl?”

Rylee’s hazel eyes dart away from Doyle’s.  “Just a girl.  Who know what they are..um.. doing.”

Doyle grimaces.  “Vanilla I take it?”

“I don’t care if she tastes like vanilla,” says Rylee quizzically.

Now Doyle laughs.  “Get comfortable.  I’ll be right back.”

Rylee paces the room.  What is she doing?  Is she trying to break up with Spencer?  Is she?  God, she’s going to live forever!  Without her!  She can’t think of that, god, she just wants to live, to be alive, to be with someone.  Why can’t that be Spencer?  Why?  It won’t ever be because their powers get stronger and show them away from one another.

“Hello,” says a voice at the door.

She is shorter than Rylee, dark eyes and platinum blonde hair.  She’s wearing next to nothing, and Rylee is sure she’s never seen someone as gorgeous as her before.  Rylee’s seen one person naked in her life and that experience had been a total disaster.

Rylee doesn’t wait, instead she steps up to the girl and promptly kisses her.
