It's been a tough eight months without Taylor. You broke up eight months ago and even though you were both in new relationships now, you still missed her more than anything.
You've been in a new relationship for the past five months after your friends had pretty much dragged you out of your apartment because you pretty much refused to go out after your breakup.
It felt as if things were moving too fast with your new girlfriend, Sarah, but you tried to convince yourself that this was good for you and it was what you needed.
But you weren't really happy anymore. You never felt the same way with Sarah that you did with Taylor. Only Taylor could make you feel the way she did; it was an indescribable feeling, one that you couldn't find with anyone else.
You couldn't help but wonder if Taylor felt the same way about her new girlfriend.
You hated to admit it but you still had Taylor's number on your phone. You couldn't bring yourself to delete it even though you felt silly for keeping it, figuring she'd never call because she's moved on and she'd probably never text or call.
Until one day, she did.
You were laying on the couch in your apartment watching friends. You didn't have the motivation to do anything today so you decided to have your little lazy day watching Netflix and staying in your pajamas all day long.
You were in the middle of the third episode when your phone rang and when you picked it up you were in shock at the name on the screen.
Taylor.
You figured it was probably an emergency because why else would she call you, for the first time since you broke up eight months ago? So you answered it with a panicked tone of voice. You didn't expect to be greeted with Taylor crying.
"Y/n?"
"Taylor? Are you okay? Why are you crying?"
She sniffled a few times before she asked you a question you never thought she'd ever ask you again.
"Can I come over?" You answered her almost immediately, barely giving her a chance to finish her sentence.
"Yes!"
She chuckled and it made your heart skip a beat.
"Okay. Can you... text me your new address?"
The pain in her voice was evident.
Your new address.
You were together for so long that you lived together so when you broke up you had to find a new place of your own to live.
You said yes before hanging up and texting it to her, sitting up on your couch, and looking around your sorta messy apartment and realizing that she was coming over.
For the first time in eight months, you were going to see her.
You jumped up when you realized you were in your pajamas and ran down the hallway to your bedroom to change into a pair of shorts and a tank top.
Right when you finished a few minutes later you heard a knock on your apartment door. You took a few deep breaths to keep yourself calm before walking back out to the living room and looking through the peephole to find Taylor standing there as she picked at the polish on her nails.
She looked terrified as if something was weighing on her mind and she couldn't escape it.
You opened the door and right as you did, Taylor walked in and practically threw herself on you.
"Taylor?"
You felt her tears hit your hair as she inhaled the scent of your strawberry shampoo, the same one you always used with her and it only made her cry more.
"Hey shh. What's wrong Taylor?"
She pulled away from you and took one look at you. Her eyes were filled with tears as she placed her hands on your face.
Just as you were about to ask her what was wrong again she threw herself back on you, this time her grip was tighter as if she was afraid you'd walk away again.
"I'm sorry. I'm so fucking sorry. I shouldn't have broken up with you. I'm so stupid I-"
she stopped to take a shaky breath before she sobbed again.
"I miss you so much. I know you're with someone new and you don't miss me because why would you? I broke up with you after all. But I just wanted to come over and just hold you once more. I thought it would help."
You couldn't believe what you were hearing.
"Taylor, I-"
Taylor.
Her heart broke even more.
Taylor.
When you were together you rarely ever used her full first name, always referring to her as Tay or any pet name that came to your mind.
It made her feel as though it was over. But she still couldn't help but try. She had to let you know how she felt.
"I know it's my fault. Shit, I feel so guilty. I don't have anyone to blame for losing you but myself. I let you go and you've moved on. I guess it's true that you don't know what you got till it's gone. I just wanted to let you know that I still love you and I don't think I'll ever stop."
You quirked an eyebrow before pulling her away from you and Taylor sobbed again.
"Taylor, what are you talking about? You've moved on too."
She shook her head and shakily reached a hand out to grab yours.
"No I didn't. I mean, I tried but I couldn't. Every time I looked at her I saw you. When I tried to kiss her I didn't feel a spark; the kind that I've only ever felt with you. I couldn't hold her or tell her that she was beautiful because it felt wrong. I felt like I was living a lie because I didn't feel that way about her. I've only ever loved you."
"Tay-"
"I understand if you don't miss me. I just wanted to see your beautiful face one last time and hold your hand once more. But I understand that you don't feel the same."
She sighed heavily, her shoulders were tense because she carried around so much guilt and almost a hatred towards herself for letting you go.
She let go of your hand and took one last look at you before she turned around to leave but she froze on her feet when she felt your hand grab her wrist.
"You didn't let me talk."
She felt her heart pounding against her chest. She slowly turned around and she felt like crying all over again when you caressed her cheeks with yours soft hands. She closed her eyes as she soaked in the feeling.
"You have no idea how hard these past few months have been on me. When you broke up with me it was like the worst pain I've ever felt. It wasn't just emotional or mental, it was physical and it hurt."
She lowered her head and bit her lip as the tears welled up in her eyes again.
"I moved on or at least I tried."
She slowly lifted her head up, a tear falling from her eye as she saw you do the same.
"But it hasn't been working because I miss you too, Tay."
There it was.
The nickname was there, it rolled off your tongue so naturally, like it never left.
"I miss you. Everything about you. I miss your kisses and the way you made me feel. I miss everything about you."
Your lips slowly turned from a frown and into a smile and Taylor couldn't help but do the same.
"S-So what are you saying?"
You reached for her hands and intertwined your fingers with hers.
"I've never stopped loving you, Tay."
She let out a breath of relief, feeling as though all the weight that has rested on her shoulders for eight months was gone.
She didn't hesitate to lean forward and press her lips onto yours, your hands going to her cheeks as you both got lost in each other.
"I've never stopped loving you either, y/n." She mumbled when she pulled away from your lips.
You were quick to reconnect them again and you both melted into each other, feeling as if every piece of the puzzle finally fit again.
"I love you." You both said at the same time making each other giggle.
One more tear fell down Taylor's cheek, this time for a whole new reason.
"So does this mean I can get out of this apartment or-? Taylor laughed and kissed your forehead, nodding her head excitedly as she pulled you close to her again.
"Of course. You can come home."
You smiled and tucked your face in the crook of her neck. "You're my home."
You smiled and grabbed her hand, leading her into your bedroom and pulling out a suitcase to pack some necessities into.
"I can come back and pack tomorrow. I just wanna go back to your place and spend the day with you."
She nodded her head and smiled at you, kissing your head a couple of times before grabbing some clothes as you packed your toothbrush and toothpaste.
As she finished grabbing you a few things from your closet you went into the living room and grabbed your phone, shooting Sarah a text to explain to her what was going on which she was surprisingly okay with, responding with
"that's okay. you two were meant to be. Wishing you all the best in life y/n."
You typed a response out wishing her the same before you heard your suitcase rolling on the hardwood floor.
"Ready, honey?"
You smiled and laced her fingers with yours.
"Ready!"
She kissed your hand before you two walked out to her car, ready to finally be back home with each other.
You really were meant to be.
