They're born that way, meant to be companions to the countries, and no matter where they were born they will somehow find their way to their future owner and stay with them...
• If Honduras were to die and be reincarnated her Scarlet Macaw Lempira would find her owner and stay by her till the end of time.

• one time the axis{Sardinia too}, and this guy tries to attack Japan. Much to everyone's surprise, even his own, Italy was the first to react. He took the guy down in less than ten seconds, yelling furiously and almost crying while doing so. Germany didn't make him train for a week while his sister Sardinia bragged about "my brother is strong so don't mess with him".

• whenever a nation is going through a particularly tight or hotly-contested election, they tend to get violently ill and somewhat feverish. America was bedridden for weeks in 2000, and Iran was sick as to hallucinate in 2009. When this happens, other nations give the effected nation plenty of space, both out of courtesy and a slight fear for their own safety.
• The animals or non-human companions that nations keep take on the nation's immortality and some measure of their power. This is because such creatures become the nation's familiars/spirit animals/totem animals if the bond is strong enough; their spirits are tied together.
