Charlotte Lupin and Theodore Nott made their way towards the astronomy tower, one with a frown on her face and the other with a face of confusion.

Lottie was angry.

She was slightly unsure why, she and Lupin hadn't properly argued, she didn't really see it as much of a reason be upset and yet she was.

Theo hadn't asked her why she was angry yet, because one he already had a slight idea and two, he knew she'd explain when she was ready.

When the two arrived at the astronomy tower, they each took a seat on the floor, Charlotte fiddling in her pockets for her cigarettes.

She handed Theo one and he quickly took it, lighting it with the orange lighter his friend had given him.

"I hate him," Charlotte said, bringing the cigarette to her lips.

"What happened?" Asked Theo.

"He tried to apologise." Charlotte stated bluntly. "He didn't even try to apologise properly! He asked me how my studies are going, my studies for gods sake!"

Theo felt anger for his friend, he couldn't bare to think about what how he would feel if he was the one in Charlotte's position.

"I don't want him here, Theo." She shook her head, her voice quite but the hurt showing fiercely. "I want him to go home so that I can enjoy school. I want to be able to walk to class without worrying about him turning around the corner!"

"I know," Theodore nodded, racking his brains for some sort of help he could provide his friend. "Have you written to Kaycie recently?"

"Not since we've been back to school," Lottie shook her head. "Maybe I should..."

"You should," Theodore confirmed, "you always say she gives you the best advice."

"She does," Charlotte smiled lightly. "I told her to write to me...I haven't even written to her yet, I've been so wrapped up in just...well, everything!"

"Go for it then!" Theo smiled.

"I will. How was detention with McGonagall?" Lottie asked, resting her head on his shoulder.

"Boring," Theo sighed, "she gave me a biscuit though."

"Lucky you." Charlotte chuckled. "At least we no longer have detentions."

"Agreed, I missed my evenings!" Theo said dramatically. "Although I doubt it'll last long."

"Me too." Lottie smirked, looking up at the stars. It was a clear night, meaning she could easily see the stars. She had always found them calming. They were comforting in a strange way, Charlotte often found herself watching them late at night.

The two sat quietly for a while, having the occasional conversation but they mostly stayed silent, both simply enjoying one anothers company.

"So, you like Alex?" Charlotte asked, her head still resting on his shoulder.

"What makes you say that?" Theo asked, his face going a deep red.

"Its obvious Theo," she said with a small smile.

"I dunno," he shrugged, "we're only thirteen. Maybe I'll know properly when we're older."

"Yeah. I'm sure you will," Lottie said, and it comforted him that she understood.

The next morning, was sitting in the Great Hall contemplating her whole life plans as she stared down at her timetable.

"We have defense first!" Erin said happily as she started buttering her toast.

"Amazing," Charlotte replied, rolling her eyes.

"We've got transfigurations and the-"

"I really do like Professor Lupin." Erin cut Alex off.

"Why?" Asked Charlotte, narrowing her eyes.

"He's so sweet!"

"No he's not," Charlotte said, still angry at her last encounter with him.

"He is! He's a great teacher and hes funny! You should give him another chance Lottie, he deserves it." Erin smiled brightly.

"Why are you being so insensitive?" Charlotte snapped.

"Don't be grumpy with me," Erin frowned.

"Keep your mouth shut then."

"Merlin, someone is grumpy today!" Erin chuckled.

"Erin." Theodore said sternly. "Stop."

"Whatever," Erin rolled her eyes, "I'm going to get to class early, see ya!"

Erin jumped up, strolling out of the hall with a smirk on her face.

"Have you noticed how weirdly she's been acting?" Alexander Rosier asked his friends.

"A little, she's gotten a little rude." Said Charlotte.

"She's getting very bitchy." Theo corrected her. "She's been very cocky, and her heads been up Lupins arse!"

"And Potters." Alex added.

"I've noticed that," said Lottie, "maybe she's a quidditch fan or something?"

"But she said quidditch is too masculine for her the other day!" Theo cried.

"That's true..." Lottie sighed. "I'll talk to her about it later. I better get to defence...think I could ditch for today?"

"As much as I know you hate it," Alex said sadly, "I don't fancy seeing you in more detentions, so you better go."

"Got it," Charlotte sighed, a wave of sadness hitting her as she made her way out of the Great Hall.

She made a good effort to taking her time, by the time she actually reached the classroom she was at least ten minutes late, not that she minded.

She strolled into the classroom with a scowl on her face, although what she saw shocked her the most.

It wasn't Professor Lupin who looked up at her from the teacher's desk; it was Snape.

"This lesson began ten minutes ago, Lupin. Take a seat." Snape drawled.

A grin filled Lotties face.

As much as she hated Snape, she had never been happier to see him.

She sat down at a free desk, seeing as Erin was already sat next to Susan and she pulled out her book, only for Harry Potter to run in late.

"You are late to this lesson, Potter, so I think we'll make it ten points from Gryffindor. Sit down. Next to Lupin."

Harry didn't move.

"Where's Professor Lupin?" he asked.

"He says he is feeling too ill to teach today," said Snape with a twisted smile. "I believe I told you to sit down?"

Harry nodded, understanding that Remus was ill due to the fact it was the full moon that night.

Charlotte raised an eyebrow. Lupin had seemed alright last night. Slightly tired and groggy, but he didn't look like he was dying or anything.

"Morning Lupin," whispered Harry.

"Potter."

"How are you?" He whispered, although someone else spoke before she could think of the best way to tell him to fuck off.

"What's wrong with Lupin?" A Gryffindor asked.

Snape's black eyes glittered.

"Nothing life-threatening," he said, looking as though he wished it were. "Five more points from Gryffindor for talking out of turn Mr Finnegan."

"As I was saying before Potter interrupted, Professor Lupin has not left any record of the topics you have covered so far --"

"Please, sir, we've done Boggarts, Red Caps, Kappas, and Grindylows," said Hermione Granger quickly, "and we're just about to start --"

"Be quiet," said Snape coldly. "I did not ask for information. I was merely commenting on Professor Lupin's lack of organization."

Charlotte bit her lip to stop herself from laughing. She hated Snape, but his disliking to Remus was slightly entertaining.

"He's the best Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher we've ever had," said Dean Thomas boldly, and there was a murmur of agreement from the rest of the class (except for Lottie.) Snape looked more menacing than ever.

"You are easily satisfied. Lupin is hardly overtaxing you -- I would expect first years to be able to deal with Red Caps and Grindylows. Today we shall discuss --"

"-- werewolves," said Snape.

"But, sir," said Hermione, seemingly unable to restrain herself, "we're not supposed to do werewolves yet, we're due to start Hinkypunks --"

"Miss Granger," said Snape in a voice of deadly calm, "I was under the impression that I am teaching this lesson, not you. And I am telling you all to turn to page 394." He glanced around again. "All of you! Now!"

With many bitter sidelong looks and some sullen muttering, the class opened their books.

"Which of you can tell me how we distinguish between the werewolf and the true wolf?" said Snape.

Everyone sat in motionless silence; everyone except Hermione, whose hand, as it so often did, had shot straight into the air.

"Anyone?" Snape said, ignoring Hermione. His twisted smile was back. "Are you telling me that Professor Lupin hasn't even taught you the basic distinction between --"

"We told you," said Parvati suddenly, "we haven't got as far as werewolves yet, we're still on --"

"Silence!" snarled Snape. "Well, well, well, I never thought I'd meet a third-year class who wouldn't even recognize a werewolf when they saw one. I shall make a point of informing Professor Dumbledore how very behind you all are..."

"Please, sir," said Hermione, whose hand was still in the air, "the werewolf differs from the true wolf in several small ways. The snout of the werewolf --"

"That is the second time you have spoken out of turn, Miss Granger," said Snape coolly. "Five more points from Gryffindor for being an insufferable know-it-all."

Lottie frowned. She wasn't a fan of Hermione, however there was no need to be rude.

Hermione went very red, put down her hand, and stared at the floor with her eyes full of tears.

It was a mark of how much the class loathed Snape that they were all glaring at him, because every one of them had called Hermione a know-it-all at least once, and Ron, who told Hermione she was a know-it-all at least twice a week, said loudly, "You asked us a question and she knows the answer! Why ask if you don't want to be told?"

Charlotte knew instantly he'd gone too far. Snape advanced on Ron slowly, and the room held its breath.

"Detention, Weasley," Snape said silkily, his face very close to Ron's. "And if I ever hear you criticize the way I teach a class again, you will be very sorry indeed."

No one made a sound throughout the rest of the lesson. They sat and made notes on werewolves from the textbook, while Snape prowled up and down the rows of desks, examining the work they had been doing with Professor Lupin.

"Very poorly explained...That is incorrect, the Kappa is more commonly found in Mongolia...Professor Lupin gave this eight out of ten? I wouldn't have given it three..."

When the bell rang at last, Snape held them back.

"You will each write an essay, to be handed in to me, on the ways you recognize and kill werewolves. I want two rolls of parchment on the subject, and I want them by Monday morning. It is time somebody took this class in hand. Weasley, stay behind, we need to arrange your detention."

Charlotte furrowed her eyebrows as her eyes lingered over the wolf page, cogs turning in her mind.

A simple list on how to spot a werewolf:
-Thick scars across the body, usually taking a pink or slightly silver colour in the skin.
-Extreme exhaustion around the full moon.
-Agressive personality
-Avoids silver

The list went on, but Lottie didn't have much time, instead she made a mental note to check when the next full moon would be and to keep a close eye on Lupin.
