"I'm going to be in there with you, you're going to be just fine." Theodore Nott said quietly as he hugged his best friend.

"I don't want him to be there," Charlotte sniffed.

She had completely over panicked herself with the idea of being stuck in a room with Remus, everything in her life that had happened since he left her came over her and she grew angry and stressed and sad to the point that she couldn't breath. She hated this, she wanted him to go and she wanted McGonnogal to act like a professor and less like a family maker, because it was causing more harm than good.

"Its going to be okay, I promise." Theo said gently. "And if it gets too much, just let me know and we can get you out of there, okay?"

"Okay," Charlotte nodded, wiping her blood shot eyes.

"You ready?"

"Ready."

The two made their way to the defense against the dark arts classroom silently, Lottie was too busy lost in her own thoughts and worries whilst Theo looked back every few minutes worriedly.

When they reached the classroom, the two shared a look and Charlotte nodded, prompting him to open the door.

He did so, pushing it open to reveal Professor Lupin sat his desk marking papers.

"Hello!" Remus said awkwardly. Multiple thoughts had been going through his own mind. He didn't want to scare her off or make her angry, however he still wanted to try and build a relationship with his daughter.

"Hello." Theo replied bluntly, whilst Charlotte didn't answer at all.

Remus noticed this. He noticed the blood shot eyes and the sadness on her face, he chose to ignore it though, knowing it would cause him too much pain if he even began to think about how badly he must've hurt an innocent child.

But perhaps ignoring it would be selfish. He needed to take responsibility and apologise for everything, and yet he couldn't find the words in him, the courage. She had shut him down plain and simple the first time, and he feared if he pushed too hard and too often then it would do more permanent damage.

"Take a seat, I suppose you better write some lines." Remus rubbed his forehead nervously. "Have either of you got parchment or quills?"

They both shook their heads.

"Not to worry! I have some up here, take these." He held out some parchment, which they each took a piece of and then he grabbed some spare quills and ink.

"How many times do we have to write it?" Theo asked the professor. "And what exactly are we writing?"

"Er," Remus glanced at the clock, they had three hours. "Just do two pages and then you can just sit quietly or draw...or whatever. You can write I must not prank people."

He felt the irony of his words; his childhood pranks were awful in comparison to a little hair dye.

Theo nodded and sat down at the desk, Charlotte doing the same, instantly starting to do her lines.

"So how are you both?" Remus asked nervously. He wanted to get to know his daughter and he thought this would be a good way to try it.

"Good, you." Theodore replied. He already hated the man, simply for what he did to his own daughter, however he didn't want to be disrespectful, nor did he want to leave Lottie as the only one replying.

"I'm quite well thank you Mr Nott." Remus smiled softly. "And you, Charlotte?"

Lottie looked up at her dad, who she had purposely been ignoring. "Yes?"

"How are you?" Remus asked.

Charlotte stared at him. Was it a trick question?

"Fine..." She replied, looking back down at the paper in front of her.

"Good." Remus nodded.

It was silent for a while. Remus' mind was itching to talk to his daughter. He desperately wanted to get to know her, and yet she was so closed off.

He didn't blame her for that, of course, but he still wished it didn't have to be like that, he wished he hadn't been so reckless in his youth. Looking back, he knew how challenging his life was after Adelaide's death. Charlotte's life would have been misery, but he still wished he had been there for her as well as himself.

She looked just like his late wife. They both shared the ginger hair, the freckles, the sassy manor and the dramaticness. She also seemed to be like him with the sarcasm, they shared the same eyes and the same smile, they both enjoyed pranking - not that Remus would admit the last one to her.

Time was going by quickly for Remus, and yet for Charlotte it was going ever so slowly. She found herself glancing at the clock every two minutes, tapping her foot nervously as she waited for the time to go by.

"Professor...what is that?" Asked Theo. He didn't want to talk to Remus, but the creature in the tank was giving him some dreadful looks that he couldn't ignore.

"Ah that's my grindylow!" Remus said cheerfully. "You'll be seeing him next lesson!"

"Why is it looking at me like that." Theo shuddered.

Lottie rolled her eyes at her friend with a smile. He could be dramatic at time, but he was always able keep her mind off of things with his silly little remarks.

"Grindylows are in all honesty, water demons." Remus chuckled. "Strange little creatures. Don't worry though, he won't be able to get out."

"Wicked!"

"Would you like to come and get a closer look?" Remus asked hopefully.

"Uh...sure." Theo shrugged, standing up. He tapped Charlotte on the head playfully as he walked past her, to which she responded to by sticking out her tongue.

Remus smiled at the two of them sadly. He wondered if he would ever be able to have a close bond with his daughter.

"Come on Charlotte, you can look too!" Remus said, nodding his head in the direction of the tank.

"Okay." She replied uncertainly, she went over despite telling herself not to, as rude and angry as she wanted to be, she didn't see a point in arguing it.

Remus made eye contact with his daughter as she stood next to him. He smiled slightly, but she didn't smile back, she just bit her lip and furrowed her eyebrows.

Charlotte was confused to say the least.

Why, why, why?

Why was he being so nice to her? He had taken her to an orphanage, he had left her and now he was showing her and her friend magical creatures as if nothing happened? She wanted to know why he kept smiling at her, why he kept making the effort to talk to her when he left first.

"Are they always green?" Asked Theo, who seemed to of taken quite an interest to the creatures.

"Yep!" Lupin nodded. "They don't get much bigger then that, they just grow lots of sharp teeth, see?"

"Yeah." Nodded Theo. "Creepy things if you ask me."

"Yes they can be." Remus laughed slightly, making his way back to his desk.

The three were once again brought to silence as they all sat back down, the only sound that could be heard was Charlotte's feet tapping against the ground.

"So how did you manage to change the colours in the Gryffindor common room?" Remus asked eagerly. He knew the answer of course. He and the marauders has done it multiple times to the Slytherins.

"Lottie did the spell, Alex and I just did the bathroom stuff." Theo shrugged.

"What about Miss Johnson?"

"She just tried to get us to stop," Theo snorted.

"Ah, the sensible one." Remus smiled, remembering that he was always the sensible friend.

The rest of the detention was okay. Theo and Remus spoke a few times, and that was it. Charlotte stayed silent as she watched out the window, purposely ignoring the stares her dad was sending her.

Remus on the other hand...he was quite happy. Sure he hadn't spoken to Charlotte much, but he did have two weeks to talk to her, and he felt like this was the upcoming improvement; he was undeniably incorrect, of course, but he was yet to understand that.

The next morning Charlotte, Erin, Theo and Alex where all sat eating breakfast.

"Potters not that bad you know. I mean, he's annoying, but he didn't make us do anything during detention." Alexander rambled.

"I think he's nice," said Erin, "a little childish but hes not bad."

"Lupin got us to do lines." Said Theo.

"I think Lupin is a good teacher." Erin smiled widely. "He's a good professor and he's kind and sensible, what's not to like?"

"The fact he abandoned his child?" Charlotte snorted.

"I'm sure he had his reasons," Erin replied.

"I don't think he did." Lottie shrugged.

"That's because you're being too dramatic to see past your silly theories." Said Erin.

"Hey-"

"Well, good for you," Charlotte scoffed. "You keep thinking that."

"I will." Erin smiled sweetly, turning back to her porridge.

The two boys shared a look, both equally as confused. Why was Erin acting that way?

"We better get to class, we have potions." Theo sighed.

A/N

There was no drama but I think it's too early in for anything major. But for those who are concerned, no Charlotte will not forgive Remus very easily :))
