Scott was spinning his car keys around his finger, now that he and Mitch were walking across the parking lot toward Scott's car.

The school had released the kids, deciding to exempt them from their last class to do a thorough clean up of all the science classes.

Mitch slid his hand into Scott's, and grinned up at him.

Scott didn't look at him, his eyes locked on Avi, who was waiting at Scott's car with Alex. "Where do you want to go for lunch, babe?"

"Lunch? Are you not taking me to my home?"

"Not until I feed you. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I let you get any more skinny than you already are?"

"Um..."

"An irresponsible one, that's what."

Avi gave him a nod when he got closer. "Hey. Did you get questioned at all?"

"Nope. You? Alex?"

Avi just shrugged, and Alex shook his head.

Mitch tugged on Scott's arm a little. "Wait, what even hap--?"

Avi didn't quite hear him, and started his sentence. "Were you guys going to lunch or--?"

Scott smacked his arm lightly. "Hey, shut up. Mitch is speaking." He didn't say anything else, but gave Mitch his full attention.

Mitch blushed a little, feeling slightly pressured by everyone's eyes on him. "Sorry... I was just wondering what happened... Like, what did you guys do?"

Alex laughed once. "Okay, so. I have this really awesome AP Chem teacher, and he lets us do unauthorized experiments, as long as he's sure they won't blow up the building. And he wanted us to stop by to see him do something really risky, and.. Well.. You've seen the result."

Mitch nodded a few times, slowly. "Woah... That's so cool! I wish I could've seen it."

Avi nodded once. "Yeah, you should come with us next time. He's an awesome guy."

Scott squeezed Mitch's hand a little. "No, Mitch can't. He could get in trouble."

Mitch hesitated before answering. "You guys didn't get in trouble though..?"

"Still. There's always a chance. And I won't let you do that to yourself. Tell you what, I'll record the next thing we do, so you can see it. Okay? That's risk-free."

"I could get in trouble for having the video in my possession." Mitch replied sarcastically.

"I'll show it to you from my phone. In my possession."

Mitch rolled his eyes a little. "When did you turn in to a helicopter mom?"

"Do you even know what that is? Because I'm really not meeting those criteria."

Alex cleared his throat loudly. "Um.. Guys? Lunch?"

Avi turned to him. "Don't you have practice or something?"

"Trying to get rid of me?"

"Maybe I'm irritated with how popular you are. Or that whenever we go somewhere to eat, at least two people flirt with you."

"That's not true."

"It is. You're just oblivious to everything because you're an idiot."

"I'm not an idiot!" Alex frowned, and turned away. "Mitch, Avi is being mean to me."

Mitch tried not to laugh, though Scott was openly chuckling beside him. "Alex, you're not an idiot. Avi, you're plenty popular, and you have cool tattoos. There's no reason for you to be jealous of Alex. And to answer your question, Alex doesn't have practice until later in the day because of the chemistry thing."
