Giving In pt3

Pau and I received a shocking news about his health.

Doctor: We pulled your medical record and in your last series of test, they found a problem on your left kidney. We contact the company where you are working and they told us that you, Mr.Chan, will come in next month for more tests. Meanwhile, the doctors are in the process of prescribing some medicines and treatment for you.

Pau: Treatment?

Doctor: It will depend again on the results of more tests that will be done on you. Have you been having a harder time sleeping? Too tired? What about your bathroom activities? Having a harder time urinating? Abdominal pain?

Pau: I'm feeling a little bit tired but that's because I've been busy lately. I sleep when I can, I think I'm good with that. I'm urinating just fine although it's more frequent now. I don't have abdominal pain.

Doctor: What's the color of your pee?

Pau: (wincing) I don't usually check it. They vary I guess. I remember thinking one time that I'm peeing water. It looks clear.

Doctor: A weaker pee color could be a sign that you have a problem. And indeed, we have a concern about your kidneys. But we are hopeful because you are young and there are many available treatments for you.

Pau: I didn't know any of these.

Doctor: Well, we called your workplace to inform you. Maybe the one who took the call...

The good doctor stopped talking when the door of the private room opened to admit Qing and Zhu Gege, who looked grim with concern.

Qing: (holding his hand out to the doctor) Hello, we are here for him.

Doctor: (taking Qing's hand) Ah yes. Well, I'm just explaining to Mr.Chan about the results of his last series of medical check ups and the concern we see on his left kidney...

Wang Zhu: Yes, I know about that.

We all gave him a surprised stare.

Pau: You know about this?

Me: Wait...what?

Qing: (sighing) (to the doctor) Maybe if you can give us a little time to talk privately...?

Doctor: Oh sure. We will just come back with Mr.Chan's prescriptions.

Qing: Thank you so much.

Qing escorted the doctor and nurse who are looking after Pau in this hospital to the door. After they left the room, Qing firmly closed that door.

Pau was glaring at Zhu Gege.

Pau: (accusatory tone) You know about those medical results on my last tests.

Wang Zhu: (nodding as he sat at the edge of the hospital bed) They called last week while we were out on a meeting. I called them back and told them that I am your closest kin. They saw that I was indeed in your emergency contact so they told me about those results. They asked you to come in for more tests but I told them you will do it next month because you have some papers to draw and defend. They agreed that you can come in next month and adviced me that they might prescribe some tablets for you.

Pau: Why didn't you tell me?

Wang Zhu: I tried telling you but your head is filled with ideas for your papers and how you will defend them. I backed down and thought I will just let you finish your papers this week and then I will personally take you to the hospital for your tests.

Pau: Well great, I am here now.

Qing: (to me) What happened really?

Me: He had a nosebleed. It happened twice this week alone.
