"Have I entered an alternate universe or did you really just a crack a smile for me?"

"What you did was irresponsible, stupid, and you could have gotten yourself killed easily, if I hadn't come and taken you away from your goddamn suicide mission."

You stared at Damon with wide eyes, and your mouth hung open as a look of pure disbelief appeared to your face. You let out a shocked chuckle, and your expression intensified, as if you were trying to make sure he was being for real, acting so bossy and all with you, when in reality, you didn't even need his help.

Alright, admittedly, you were in a bit of a tough situation and you had considered the possibility of dying, but you were a grown up, and a vampire, and you could survive without Damon breathing in your neck all day long. Yet, he hadn't trusted you enough, and followed you when you had went to pick a fight on your own, and stupidly he had intervened which only led into more danger. You were grateful, obviously, he had saved your ass from an eternal darkness but if he hadn't screwed things up, you wouldn't have needed saving in the first place.

"What suicide mission? It wasn't a freaking suicide mission, Damon. And just FYI, I almost got killed because you showed up and started to yell at me. You gave the werewolves an opportunity to jump on me, which they did. I would have been just fine if you wouldn't have fucked shit up, like you always do", you angrily fought back, not afraid of letting the argument get heated. Damon's face turned white and his angry expression dropped, just like his heart, and your face softened as well, when you realized what you had said.

"Well, at least now I know how you really feel about me", Damon stated quietly, and turned on his heel before striding towards his bedroom. You and him were best friends, and you were always the one who stood by his side no matter what. You were always there, and you supported him and loved him despite everything, and you were the person he least expected to lash out on him. He couldn't care less if anyone else said some hurtful stuff to him, but when it was you, his heart broke.

"Wait, Damon-- come on!", you tried, and took a step to follow him but he had already disappeared into his room, and the aggressive way to shut the door and lock it afterwards meant that he really didn't want to see you right now. You sighed, and ran your hands along your face - great, the day only got better with time. Not.

You sat down in the kitchen, finding a seat at the table where Damon had left a bottle of bourbon and you didn't want it to go to waste, so you took it in hand and poured a good swig in your mouth. You swallowed the bitter liquid, and sighed heavily as you engaged in a staring contest with the label of the bottle. You had screwed up, but so did Damon, and with the both of you so stubborn and childish in your own way, you knew the silent treatment and uptight atmosphere could last for weeks if you just really wanted it to. But the thing was, you didn't want to fight. You just didn't want to be the first one to apologize, either.

But then you started to think about the bond you had with Damon, after so many years. You could still vividly remember the night on which you arrived to Mystic Falls, you were sassy and sarcastic and your new friends, Elena and Bonnie joked how you'd be perfect for this guy called Damon Salvatore. Then the next day, you were drinking at Mystic Grill, when a tall, dark, handsome - damn, he had it all - guy in a leather jacket and with an attractive smirk dancing on his lips approached you. And he tried to flirt with you, but miserably failed, although after mocking him you ended up making out in the bathroom. But you put it behind you, and settled with being only friends, and ever since you had been inseparable.

So you really couldn't let this come between you. You had said something rude, and for that you owed an apology. He had done something foolish, and therefore, he was in the same situation as you. You knew he wouldn't be the one to make the first move, so, even though you absolutely hated it, you stood up from the chair after a long sip of the bourbon, ready to apologize. You didn't want to be the one who gave up, but nevertheless, you walked over to Damon's bedroom and reluctantly, but eventually, knocked on the door.

"Damon?", you began, hoping he could hear you. "I can't believe I'm doing this, but... I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Or, maybe at the time I did, but you're my best friend and I don't want to fight", you continued, sighing heavily while feeling a weight lift off of your heart. You leaned against the wall next to the door, and closed your eyes while resting your head back and picking up all of your courage before continuing.

"Thank you, for saving my life. I don't know what I'd do without you. Have a lot of fun, I guess-- My point is, I love you, and I'm sorry for being a bitch. Please come out and hug me before I start crying", you explained, and prayed for him to do as you wished. You knew he was stubborn, after all it was a trait you shared with him, but maybe this time, you words would go through and Damon would give up. You really didn't want to fight, the day had sucked before this, but knowing your best friend was mad at you only made it worse.

Luckily, the door opened, and you lifted yourself from the wall with a surprised look. While you were mostly hoping for him to come out, there was a realistic part of you that didn't expect him to do so, but you were more than happy to look into his stunning blue eyes and see him in all his beauty. It hadn't been long since you last saw him, but it was enough time for you to miss him, and therefore you happily threw your arms over his shoulders and hugged him tightly.

"You goddamn dimwit. I love you", you mumbled against his shoulder, and placed your hands on his muscular back, feeling him through his black sweater. You breathed in his scent, and then lifted your head to place both of your palms on his sharp jawline and gave him a wide smile. With the steady hold of his face, it was easy for you to lock your gaze with his, and as you looked into each other's eyes, Damon broke into a smile, and it made you let go as you took a step back.

"Have I entered an alternate universe or did you really just crack a smile for me?"

You faked a shocked look, and Damon scoffed, before pulling you into a new hug. His strong body meeting yours made you sigh, and you closed your eyes while hugging him tightly. You always made jokes about him and teased each other, but the truth was, you really did not know what you'd do without him. You needed Damon, that was just how it is, and after being best friends for years, you couldn't even try imagining a life without him in it. Seeing his infamous smirk made your day, and helping each other with getting laid was always good fun. You were his trusted wingman, his friend, someone with whom he connected on a deeper level than just basic friendship. You were almost like family.

"I love you too, punk", Damon grinned and kissed the top of your head softly while tightening his hold on you.

You rolled your eyes and scoffed at the nickname, but ended up smiling anyway. "Jerk."
