Imagine being in love with human!Stefan but he loves Katherine

 If there was something that would always break your heart no matter what, it was being in love with a boy who you could never have. Each day, you struggled to get up because of the utterly heart-breaking reality - you were hopelessly, unbelievably, deeply in love with Stefan Salvatore, and he had the same feeling in his heart but it was for another girl. He was in love with Katherine Pierce, and that meant, your feelings were unanswered. The only person who knew of this besides yourself was Stefan's brother, Damon, but not even he could help. A person couldn't just fall out of love, and therefore, you just had to deal with the pain of loving someone who wouldn't love you back. Not today, not tomorrow, perhaps never.

 You were quite easy to love, actually. You were stunning, and a lovely girl in every possible way, and your closest friend Damon reminded you of this whenever you felt otherwise. He always made you feel nice and pretty, but it was the wrong Salvatore brother telling you those things. You and Damon, it was just friendship, and you so feared that it would remain the same with Stefan, the brother your heart longed for. The brother you wanted and needed.

 But Katherine was definitely something, too. She was charming, and gorgeous, impossible to not fall for. You weren't surprised to find out that Stefan's heart had been stolen, but it hurt you nevertheless and you found yourself crying nearly every night. Some people would have called that weak, but Damon kept telling you how you were unbelievably brave and strong. He also tried to push you into confessing your feelings to Stefan in the hopes of him seeing who was the best girl for the young man, but in your opinion, it would end with your heart torn from your chest and stomped on. You didn't want any more pain, so you stayed away from Stefan. In fact, you started avoiding him.

 While you isolated yourself from him, Damon tried to drop hints for his oh so clueless little brother. Stefan didn't pick any of them, and he was too blind to see your love which burned hot for him, but he did value and appreciate your friendship and the bond between you two, even if it wasn't romantic like you wished - either way he soon realized that he hadn't seen you in days, which turned into weeks. Before it could become months, Stefan took matters into his own hands and made it his mission to revive your bond that had began to slowly fall apart. He didn't know what had caused you to remove yourself from wherever he was, but he aimed to find out, because he did love you, though not in the way you wanted him to.

 "Where's Y/N? I never see her anymore. I guess she doesn't care about you so much, after all", Katherine pouted on one day, while sitting in a park with Stefan who was thinking about you. About what could have driven you away, what could have possibly made you want to stop talking to Stefan and do such with Damon instead. He was maybe a tiny bit jealous, too. But he didn't admit it.

 He turned to Katherine who was smiling her usual, innocent but at the same time devilish smile. "Y/N does care about me. And I care about her. Which is precisely why I plan on finding her and figuring out why she won't talk to me or spend time with me anymore. Something is wrong, Katherine, and as her friend I need to find out what that is. I'm worried", Stefan explained, and gave Katherine a serious look, which turned into a warm smile. Katherine smiled back, but when she heard Stefan speak of you in such a lovely manner, a pang of jealousy hit her right in the heart.
