Slughorn was in the middle of a sentence when Harry and Ron came in. Charlotte furrowed her eyebrows because Ron failed his Potions OWLs, so he shouldn't be here. But she just mentally shrugged and watched as Slughorn turned around and addressed Harry.

"Harry m’boy! I was beginning to worry, and I see you’ve brought someone with us..."

Ron sheepishly smiled and greeted.

"Ron Weasley, sir. But I’m dead awful at Potions, a menace actually. So I probably should just be going."

He went to exit, but Harry grabbed his shirt and pulled him back as Slughorn spoke chirpily.

"Nonsense, we’ll sort you out. Any friend of Harry’s is a friend of mine. Right then, books out."

Everyone began to reach into their bags to get the books out and Charlotte overheard Harry speak up.

"Um, sorry, sir. But I haven’t got my book yet- nor’s Ron. You see-"

Slughorn cut him off and responded.

"Not to worry, you can get what you need from the cupboard."

The boys nodded and walked towards the cupboard, they opened the door and glanced at each other. Lottie began to listen to Slughorn and whilst she did, she had to hold back a laugh as Harry and Ron fought over some books.

"Now, as I was saying. I’ve prepared a few concoctions this morning, any ideas what these might be?"

He gestured to three cauldrons and Hermione's arm shot up, Slughorn gestured to Hermione and asked.

"Yes, Miss?"

Hermione smiled and answered his question.

"Granger, sir."

Slughorn nodded and Hermione pointed to the cauldrons and named them.

"That one there is Veritaserum, that would be Polyjuice Potion and that one is Amortentia! The most powerful love potion in the world, it’s rumoured to smell differently to each person, according to what attracts them."

She leant towards the cauldron and sniffed, she then announced.

"For example, I smell freshly mown grass and new parchment and spearmint toothpaste."

She trailed off and blushed profusely, she stood back and Charlotte playfully nudged her with a smirk. By now, Ron and Harry had joined the girls at the front and Harry smiled as he stood next to Charlotte. Lottie smiled back and continued to listen to Slughorn again.

"Now, Amortentia doesn’t create actual love, of course, that’s impossible. But it does cause a powerful infatuation or obsession. For that reason, it is probably the most dangerous potion in this room."

Charlotte suddenly zoned out and was overwhelmed with the smell of vanilla shampoo, broomstick wax and cologne, she was unaware of the realization until Slughorn placed a lid on the cauldron, cutting off the smell completely.

Lottie blinked rapidly before clearing her throat and freezing from what she had smelt from the potion, it was exactly like how Harry smells.

Charlotte immediately started blushing and she avoided eye contact with him, she wasn't sure as to what Harry smelt, but it seemed as though he was avoiding eye contact with her as well and was too blushing.

Lottie shook off the thought and payed attention to the lesson. Katie Bell suddenly spoke up as she pointed to the vial.

"Sir, you haven't told us what is in that one."

Slughorn let out an "ah, yes" before explaining.

"What you see before you, ladies and gentlemen, is a curious little potion known as Felix Felicis. But it is more commonly referred to as-"

Hermione and Charlotte cut him off in unison.

"Liquid Luck."

In the corner of her eyes, Charlotte spotted both Harry and Draco perk up. Slughorn smiled and responded.

"Yes, Miss Granger and Miss Weasley. It's desperately tricky to make, disastrous should you get it wrong. But if brewed correctly, as this one has been, it has remarkable powers. One sip and you will find that all your endeavours succeed... at least until the effects wear off."

Mutters filled the room and everyone was more interested in the lesson, Slughorn noticed their eagerness and announced.

"So, this is what I offer each of you today. One tiny vial of liquid luck... to the student who, in the hour that remains, manages to brew an acceptable Draught of
Living Death. The recipe for which can be found on page ten of your textbook. You should know that in all the
years of my previous tenure at Hogwarts, not once did a student brew a potion of sufficient quality to claim this prize in any event. Good luck."

Everyone excitedly dispersed and stood behind their tables, Charlotte opened her book and began brewing the potion. She added the correct ingredients, but seemed to be struggling with a bean. It said to cut it, but when she tried, it kept flying away and hitting people on the head.

Charlotte looked around and noticed that everyone but Harry was also struggling. She watched as he crushed the bean instead of cutting it. Hermione, who looked irritated, asked him.

"How did you do that?"

Harry looked up and smiled before answering her question.

"Crush it, don't cut it."

Hermione looked at the book and then back to Harry before stating.

"No, the instructions specifically say to cut."

Harry let out a laugh and shook his head, he then responded.

"No, really-"

Hermione abruptly shushed him and sighed heavily, she then angrily huffed and went back to work. This made Charlotte let out a giggle at her frustration, she shook her head at Mione's antics and looked to Harry to see him smiling cheekily.

Charlotte pursed her lips and he sneakily slid the book in between them since they were next to each other. Lottie's eyes widened and he placed a finger over his mouth to signal her not to tell, she breathed out a laugh and continued working on her potion.

Slughorn began coming around the room observing people's potions and when he came to the quartet, Charlotte purposely forgot to put an ingredient in so Harry would win the vial. She snickered as Hermione's hair had gone all frizzy and bushy from the heat, she then smirked when Slughorn was wowed at Harry's potion. He also looked at Charlotte's and stated that she had missed an ingredient, but she just innocently shrugged and slyly winked at Harry who looked at her in amusement.

It neared to the end of the lesson and Charlotte watched as Harry proudly held the vial in his hand as Slughorn congratulated him and complimented his skills. Everyone clapped, but you could tell that Lottie's was more enthusiastic as everyone was lightly clapping due to disappointment and exhaustion. It's funny, because before Slughorn became the Potions teacher, Harry was absolutely shite at Potions, no offence to him. He did however, pass his Potions OWL which Charlotte was proud of.
