Hitoshi stared at his dad in shock. Shota's eyes were closed as silent tears fell down his face.
His right hand gripped tightly around the canary charm. Hitoshi feared that his father would break it off the necklace if he didn't do something to distract him. So Hitoshi scooted closer. Shota opened his eyes with a gasp of surprise and turned his head slightly when he felt a sudden pressure against his left side.
He saw Hitoshi leaning against him in an awkward side hug and Shota sighed softly as he wrapped his left arm around the compassionate teenager and accepted the close contact of an awkward hug.
Hitoshi was trying, and failing, to not blush in embarrassment over the awkward moment. Shota's voice wavered slightly as he spoke.
"Th-Thank you..."
Hitoshi blinked and looked up into the softly smiling face of his adoptive father and returned his gesture with a small smile of support. Shota sighed heavily and continued with the story never breaking the side hug which Hitoshi guessed was a means of calming himself down. ——————————————————————— Two months after Kanaria Yamada's death...

"Hizashi where's Shota?"
Hizashi snickered. "He wanted to go dancing in the rain."
Akemi stared at him with a disgusted expression. "That joke was terrible Hizashi! You have got to get some new material!"
Akemi was laughing at the bad joke Hizashi had made until she saw Shota entering the room five minutes late and soaking wet. She gasped in shock.
