Shiro and Hannah - Memories part 6

"You got it Shiro" Keith replied, speeding toward the Galra ship. Keith moved in quickly and deftly, landing within the ship and carrying Hannah to safety. Keith listened in on the chat while Hannah, hanging on for dear life, whispered the directions to the Lab.

"Shiro! I found the Doctor, turns out he's inside with the ship. I think it's a trap!" Pidge exclaimed. "We have to get Keith and Hannah out of there!"

"Shiro!" Keith shouted, "The Doctor is in here and looks like he's been waiting for us. He said that he's ready to take the arm off if we take him with us."

Shiro stilled. The ship was being abandoned, the Doctor was there and no he's asking for help. If this was what it was like for Hannah, having so many things against her then the life that she would have had... "Keith, tell him that we're coming in and that if he tries to do something while he operates on Hannah we'll kill him," Shiro said.

"Shiro, are you sure this is a good idea?" Pidge asked.

"It's the only idea I have" Shiro answered.

Pidge watched as Shiro flew into the Galran warship. Without warning, Pidge lashed out and began to attack the fleeing Galran vessels.

Shiro reached the ship and caught up with Keith. Keith sensed something coming and unsheathed his sword only to see what it was Shiro. "Glad I saw your armour, otherwise I would have killed you" Keith sighed.

"Yeah, I've already had one person try to kill me, thanks for not making the count go up" Shiro answered, patting Keith on the shoulder.

"How are you so calm?" Keith asked the sounds of machinery whizzing and screaming in the background.

"What do you mean?" Shiro asked.

"After all this," Keith answered. "Hannah getting captured, you finding out that she's your sister, then realising how much pain and danger she is in, how are you able to stay calm in all of this?" Keith asked.

"Honestly, I'm not calm at all the trick is to not show it" Shiro answered, "That's what a leader has to do sometimes, keep a level head for the team to keep working on properly. It's like this, if the head of the family becomes dysfunctional then he is unable to lead and the family will go into chaos unless there is a second leader to help him out, that role usually goes to anyone is able to step up and take command when there is no general left. Keith, I am trusting you right now to become that second in command." Shiro laid a hand on Keith's shoulder.

"Become that second in command" Keith repeated.

"I am counting on you to take charge of things in case anything happens," Shiro said.

"In case anything happens? Nothing is going to happen, Shiro, not when I'm around" Keith said sternly.

"As much as you wish that's not going to happen, it could still become a reality. As a leader, you also have a target on your back. When you become an influential person, you are considered the head of the snake to some people and you know the old saying" Shiro explained.

"Take the head off and the serpent dies" Keith finished.

"Exactly, so if something happens I need you to be there so that Voltron and everything that we've worked for in the past months doesn't fall apart," Shiro said.

"You have my word," Keith said, offering his hand. Shiro grasped it as the two gripped each other's arms like brothers.

"It's done," The Doctor said. Keith and Shiro ran over to Hannah, the arm still on her.

"I thought you were going to help Hannah," Shiro said.

"I did" The Doctor replied.

"How?" Shiro asked.
