Keith x reader - Break up

You growled. Your bag was packed and you were all ready to go. You could leave and say, 'Adios!' There was just this one thing that held you back, Keith. You loved him, but lately, you had enough of this Paladin business.

At first, you were okay with being the damsel in distress. You couldn't fight and you had no special talents. There were days when you felt like deadweight, but then Keith would come to rescue and remind him of your worth to him. But things were changing. Allura was demanding more of the Paladins, the Galra were being more aggressive and Keith seemed to be more and more distant from you every passing day.

When these thoughts started to creep in, you thought breaking up with Keith would be impossible. But... Turns out that what you think is impossible can be possible. You grabbed your bag and slung it over your shoulder. It was the dead of night when everyone was sleeping, including Pidge. Today, you had set one of the pods for course to Earth. All you needed to do was open a worm hole.

The castle wouldn't allow anyone else, but Allura to control it. But you had your ways. You got Pidge and Hunk to teach about the castle's mechanics and engineering. Within a few weeks, you learned how to avert using Allura's imprint on the castle to make a wormhole. The easy parts were done, all that was left to do was go. The wormhole was on a timer. You had twenty minutes to make a run for it.

You ran out of the bridge to the bay where your pod was set. In a swift movement, your bag was in and your pad was ready to roll. You hesitated. You were leaving everything, including Keith. Something held you to the ground, like Keith himself with gripping your ankles, begging you not to go. You looked down to make sure that wasn't true. Your ankles were free to move.

"(y/n)!" A voice shouted.

'Darn it!' You thought. You turned around to see the least favourite person you'd want to see.

"What are you doing?" He asked.

"What does it look like?" You asked, motioning to the pod.

Keith stared at the pod in disbelief. "You're leaving?!" He exclaimed. "(y/n), you can't go" Keith said.

"I can go," You argued.

"Why?" Keith demanded.

"Why do you think? There's nothing for me here. Whenever you guys are on missions I am sitting here doing absolutely nothing. I'm deadweight here!" You blurted out.

"(y/n), you're not deadweight. Have you forgotten on how you helped us? You do the little things that we can't do because we're on missions. You make us laugh, you cook for us and you take care of the castle and others. (y/n), you're not deadweight" Keith protested.

"Coran can do all that stuff for you" You argued. "Besides, what happens if I get captured and you guys try to come for me? I can't and won't be held hostage to lure you in" You said. Pulling out the hostage card was your best defence. Your mind was frozen, the timer was ticking and you didn't know how much time you had left.

"Is that the real reason why you're leaving?" Keith asked, hurt.

You clenched your teeth and looked away. "I'm leaving because I don't want to be here anymore. The only reason I've stayed for this long is because of you. But lately, you've been ignoring me! Whenever you're gone I'm here stuck doing nothing! And when you are here, you don't have time for me! Allura takes you away to train, study or do whatever like you're some myrmidon!" You shouted. "I've had enough of that I'm leaving whether you like or not" You declared.

You stepped into the pod and activated it, flying out of the castle without a second thought. Keith was left standing there. A few tears trickled down your face. It hurt to say goodbye, but you had enough and there was nothing that was going to bring you back. Not even Keith. You set the pod to autopilot as you couldn't take the emotion anymore.

You cried. It stung, it hurt and it was drilled into your mind. The pod moved effortlessly to the wormhole. Within seconds, you went from in front of the Castle of Lions to Earth. You leaned back into your seat as the pod descended into your home planet's atmosphere. You almost relieved when you saw the outside of your pod burn as it entered the atmosphere. Your burden was lifted, but another one came crashing down. You were already missing him.

I am sorry all of you who hate really sad ones! And please don't cry even more when I say that I might not make a part 2 for Keith's redemption. I might keep it this way, just like I made the Sendak x reader a sad one. This is unfortunately the reality of relationships. You usually don't get together again unless you are ready to make amends for you mistakes, acknowledge that you had down something wrong in order for this to happen and fall in love with each other. But when you break up it's usually because you never loved that person in the first place.

hope I didn't ruin your day, I will make more happy one-shots to make up for this heart breaking break up.
