...Four years later...
Your grades in high school weren't made in vain. A high grade university had rung you up years ago offering you a schoolarship. You looked at the subjects and smiled, this is what you wanted from the beginnning. With pure motivation and discipline, you breezed through the entrance exam and passed with flying colours.
Now, as one of the top engineers, you walked into the head quarters of the Galaxy Garrison. You were greeted by numerous people. A few smiles here and there. The typical grouches gave you a grunt or a sharp look. You shook their looks of disapproval off like dust on your shoulder. What mattered was that you were finally going to be moved to a new team.
You previous team was... Ineffective. Your pilot was reckless, ignorant of his crew members and very irresponsible. And let's just say that the rest of the crew members were dumb enough to fall over their own two feet. Months of patiently waiting and calmly complaining granted your long overdue transfer into another team.
You walked into the managers room to receive the news of who your team was going to be. "Ah, (y/n), have a seat" Your manager smiled. You gently smiled, nodded and took a seat in front of the manager's desk. "I understand that your previous team wasn't as... Good as you wanted them to be" Your manager started. "That's why I am moving you to one of the best teams we have. Your patience and your self-control with this team has shown admirable traits. You deserve this position (y/n) and I'm glad you are the good worker you are, people should take note of your character and follow your example."
"Thank you sir" You answered.
"My secretary should come in at any moment, she will lead you to where your new team is right now. I'm sure that you will enjoy their company" Your managers smiled.
"Thank you," You replied. As soon as you finished your sentence, the door opened. You turned around and saw that his secretary had arrived, pompously punctual.
"Hello (y/n), I am Amy, I'll be showing you were your team will work and stay" Amy smiled. You nodded, said your goodbye to the manager and followed her. "I've heard that you are a very hard worker (y/n), I'm glad we have someone like you around" Amy complimented.
"Thank you Amy" You smiled.
"Okay we're almost there, just take a left turn and you should see your training area. Your team is in there. I'll leave you to your group, if you have any questions I'd advise you to ask your captain, he's quite captivating" Amy grinned. You looked at her curiously, that look in her eye. It was like she knew something you didn't.
"Okay," You replied.
You kept walking until the left turned showed itself. Inside the room was the training room. Two men were standing or working in the room. You didn't mind them. You had your bag on you. You walked over to where the lockers were near the door. There, your uniform and your team's uniform hung. You had a look at your team's uniform reading their names:
Takashi Shirogane
Liam Thanopalous
'Wait... Takashi Shirgone!' You thought. You flicked your head around, wacking someone with your hair in the process.
"Ow!" Someone exclaimed.
"Oh my gosh I am so sorry!" You apologised. A tall man with blonde hair and a square jaw shook his head.
"Nah it's okay, should have seen that coming" The man laughed.
"You're Liam?" I asked.
"Yeah, and you should be (y/n)" Liam answered.
"That's right" You responded.
"Hey you don't happen to know Shiro do you?" Liam asked, pointing over to Shiro in the back. Shiro was distracted, working out in the gym area of the room. You thought back to your high school years.
"Yeah, I think I know him. He was in my high school I think" You answered.
"That's great! Come on, I'd like to see where this goes" Liam grinned, pushing you towards Shiro. You quickly dropped your bag and walked with Liam towards Shiro. Your heart began to throb as you grew closer. It's been like what, three four years since you saw him. You wondered how this reunion might come to pass. Did he even remember you?
"Hey Shiro! (y/n) is here!" Liam announced. Shiro lifted his sweaty head and saw you coming. You could have sworn that his face went shade redder, but you pushed that imagination off. He was working out, his face is bound to be red anyways.
"Hey (y/n)" Shiro smiled.
"Hey," You smiled. "We- You didn't happen to attended the same high school as me did you?" You asked.
"I did actually, I still remember you" Shiro answered.
"Really?" You remarked, "That's quite a memory you have."
"It's hard Shiro not to remember his high school crushes, oops shouldn't have said that" Liam grinned. A flush of embarrassment blew past both of you. Goosebumps flooded your skin and Shiro's face had definitely deepened in it's red tone.
"Wow, three and so years since you last saw her and still you blush. This is amazing" Liam chuckled.
"Sh-shut up Liam" Shiro ordered.
"Whatever you say captain" Liam grinned, saluting to Shiro.
"Sorry about Liam, he's always like this" Shiro apologised.
"No it's okay, kind of reminds me of you were we were still in high school" You grinned.
"That was a long time ago" Shiro said.
"And yet I still remember that weird phone call as if it were yesterday" You replied, jutting your chin up.
"Oh! I met your brother" Shiro announced.
"Really?" You gasped, "How when?!"
"Uh... That information is private" Shiro said.
"Why?" You asked.
"Nothing, just forget about it" Shiro sighed, walking past you. You were about to ask him something, but he was already near the showers. You sighed deeply, frustrated with questions.
"Do you know why or how he met my brother?" You asked Liam.
"Sorry, Shiro said for me to shut up" Liam grinned. You flashed your eyes at Liam and death glared him.
"One of these days, I am going to make you speak and shut up when I want you to" You growled.
"Then I look forward to that day" Liam laughed.
...
You went to the barrack's dorm. You were adults so you, Liam and Shiro shared the same room. But you were strict about your privacy literally making physical barriers of your side of the room and their side of the room. You had an arguably small territory. You had taken over an entire bunk bed. Your stuff was on the bottom bunk while you slept at the top. Any extra sheets were used as blinds for the bottom bunk to make a shielded space.
After a quick and uneventful day, you went to bed awake. The question that bugged you was the thing that kept you awake, Did Shiro still like you after all these years?
...
The next day was spent adjusting to your new team. Today was Friday. You spent all day doing drills and practices with your team, learning their communications skills, cues and weaknesses. You fit well. Not only were they hardworking and at times down to earth, but they were fun; they were enjoyable company. You loved your team and they loved you, one a bit more than the other (I dabbed when I wrote this, sorry just had to say this to you guys :P).
For your first day, it went pretty good. There were some standards in the team that was higher than what you expected, but you were an adapter, an engineer. Whatever that had to be done, you did it at any cost.
"That was awesome, you're a really talented engineer (y/n)" Liam complimented.
You stepped outside the simulator and took your helmet off. Your pony tail was pulled out making your (h/l) (h/c) fall out. Some of your hair fell in front of your face, shielding your eyes. You groaned and pushed some bits away, but another hand brushed some as well, tucking it behind your ear. You slightly gapped knowing that it was Shiro.
You willed yourself not to blush as you turned to thank him. "Y-you're welcome" Shiro stammered. You silently laughed. Your smile made Shiro nervously turn away. This was not the Shiro that you knew before. In high school he was such a confident kid, sweeping girls off their feet while hanging with the school kids. But now, he was a changed man.
He was responsible, caring and mature. But when it came to girls, now he was so nervous and timid. It was like time was going backwards for him. This new change was amusing. You were always confident and see Shiro in this fragile state mused you. In fact, it made him... Captivating.
The three of you got out of your suits and walked to the dorms. "We should go out tonight" Liam suggested, "Tomorrow is the weekend so nothing bad is going to happen."
"That's what you said to our last engineer, look at what happened. We got a new one" Shiro replied, almost warning him.
"What happened to your last engineer?" You asked, gathering a few articles of clothing to create a spare outfit.
"Liam got him to drink too much" Shiro answered.
"What happened afterward?" You asked.
"You really don't want to know. Let's just say that the manager, some fist fights and words were involved" Shiro summarised.
"That's stupid" You remarked.
"That's what I said!" Shiro added, "And yet this boy says to do it again."
"Hey, it was not my idea to give him that drink" Liam said.
"Yes, but it was you who knew that he was competitive and mentioned how strong it was" Shiro pointed out.
"Eh, that's true" Liam nodded, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Well, this may be a shocker, but I don't drink" You announced, walking over to the bathroom.
"My my, aren't you healthy" Liam remarked.
"I don't like alcohol and it does those who drink it often result in some brain damage. Some people have come out of the bar with no brain at all" You smiled, looking at Liam. You closed the door as got changed. From inside, you could hear Liam talking Shiro. He was trying to convince him that he had a brain and why it was still there. But he didn't say how much of it was left.
In the end, you guys actually went out. But thanks to you and Shiro, you didn't go to any pubs or clubs. Instead, you actually went to Liam's house. You guys were in his car so you had to go wherever he drove to.
It wasn't a surprise that he lived in quite a luxurious house. He was the son of a lawyer and accomplish Pharmacist. Both were well-paid and high in ranks resulting with a fine house, property and car.
"This is quite a place" You awed.
"I'm glad you think so. Because you two are going to stay here for the weekend" Liam smiled.
"Is that why you asked us to bring our bags with us?" You questioned, the weight of your bag pushing against your shoulder.
"Yes," Liam answered.
"Any reason why you invited us for the whole weekend without ever doing this before?" Shiro asked.
"Let's just say that this house need some sitters" Liam answered.
"And where do you think you're going?" Shiro questioned.
"I am going out with my girlfriend today and tonight" Liam replied.
Shiro pulled Liam to the side, away from you. "Liam you know that this is a risky move and you didn't even ask" Shiro whispered.
"Yeah, but believe me. This is going to work. And this house is big enough for you to stay away from her anyways" Liam argued.
"I still think this is a bad idea" Shiro sighed.
"Hey, man, if you need any help, my phone will be on. Trust me, she likes you back. Have you seen any how many times I've caught her staring at you and tensing every time you came close to her? It's only been twenty-four hours" Liam said.
Shiro turned from Liam to you. You were walking around the house with your bag still on your shoulder. Shiro was definitely falling you. "Okay fine" Shiro said.
"Yes! Thank you man. Now, I've got thirty minutes to get to my date on time. Have a great date-I mean day!" Liam shouted running out the house. You flicked your head over to Liam who was running out the house. 'Wait a second' You thought. Liam was out of the house in seconds.
You walked over to Shiro and asked, "You do realise that he took the only car in this house and that we're stranded in his property right?" Shiro cringed and closed his eyes.
"That sly fox" Shiro sighed, rubbing his face.
"You know, I'd say that he set up this thing" You said.
"He did, that's because he knew" Shiro replied.
"Knew what?" You asked.
"Knew that... I liked you, a lot" Shiro answered.
You body flushed with heat and goose bumps again. "Is that so?" You asked, turning to Shiro. Shiro bit lip and turned away. You weren't sure if this was going to be a good idea. You were about cup his face, but you grasped Shiro's hand and intertwined your fingers with his. You felt his hand tense, but it almost instantly relaxed.
You smiled. That idea before would have been too straight forward. You wondered what that would have led to. You loosened your fingers and was about to leave, but Shiro rested his hand on the side of your face and gently pulled you into a kiss.
From the distance... On the other side of the screen was Liam. Sitting in his car, watching you guys slowly sink in the kiss through the security cameras. "Yes!" He cheered.
