Shawn's point of view
I woke up to the sound of a child's cry, Rose's cry. I felt the bed move and instantly reached over to gently pull my wife Y/n back down.
"Don't worry baby girl, I got her." I said.
"But it's morning Shawn." She said with a giggle. That little giggle made my heart flutter.
"I know but you're working hard to carry our baby and you've been working hard with Rose, so you need to rest my love." I said.
One week ago my wife and I took our daughter Rose to the park. At one point, Rose ran off - but we could still see her - and when she came back, she had a rose with her. She lifted up to me and, knowing some of my lyrics, asked if I would let it die or let it grow. I told that for my girls, I would let it grow. When we got home, Y/n told me that I have another reason to let the rose grow: we got pregnant again.
I got up and went to Rose.
"It's okay, Daddy's here." I said as I picked her up.
"Daddy I had a nightmare." She said while crying.
"Oh I'm sorry honey. Do you want to talk about it?" I said and asked. She rested her head on my shoulder.
"The monsters were coming to take you and Mommy away." She said. My heart broke.
"Oh baby, Mommy and I are fine, okay? Mommy's sleeping right now but she's okay. Do you want to help me make Mommy some breakfast?" I asked. She nodded her head against my shoulder.
"Yeah." She said. By now she had stopped crying.
"Okay, what should we make her, my Rosie girl?" I asked. I love calling her that. I've been calling her that since she was born. Rose thought for a moment.
"Pancakes!" She yelled.
"Shhh, we have to be quiet, Mommy's sleeping." I said as I set her down in the kitchen.
"Sorry Daddy." She said.
"It's okay. Here, let me pull over the stool and put you on it so you can help." I said. I did exactly that. Rose stood on the stool and helped me to make the pancakes.
"Do you want the flour now Daddy?" She asked. I nodded.
"Yes please my sweet pea." I said.
"Hey Daddy?" She asked.
"Hey Rosie?" I asked.
"When you said 'yes please my sweet pea' it rhymed." She said. I laughed, causing her to giggle.
"Should I write a song about that?" I asked her. She giggled again, causing my heart to swell with joy because, well, her happiness is my happiness. She shook her head.
"Nooo." She said.
"And why is that?" I asked her.
"Because it wouldn't be a good song. Write about me!" She said. I laughed and kissed her forehead.
"I already do honey, I already do. You and Mommy are my inspirations." I said. I didn't add in there that the one in Y/n's belly is already another one of my inspirations. Rose doesn't know that we're pregnant again. Y/n wants to go to the doctor and get it confirmed that she has a baby in her belly before we tell Rose, or our any family members for that matter.
"Will Mommy and I always be your inspiration?" Rose asked. I nodded as we finished up making the pancakes.
"Always and forever my sweet girl." I said. She smiled at me.
"What are you two doing?" I heard my wife ask. I turned to her and smiled. She looked gorgeous wearing my hoodie and a pair of her own sweatpants.
"We made you breakfast in bed Mommy." Rose said. Y/n picked Rose up and smiled.
"Did you help Daddy?" Y/n asked. Rose and I nodded.
"She did. She was a very good helper." I said before giving my amazing wife a kiss.
"Daddy?" Rose asked while Y/n still held her.
"Yes?" I asked.
"Why did you just kiss Mommy?" She asked. Y/n and I looked at each other. How do you explain love to a child? I thought for a moment.
"Well, when you love someone as much as Mommy and I love each other, you give them a kiss to show them your love and affection." I said. Rose nodded and thought for a moment.
"Daddy?" She asked.
"Yes sweet pea?" I asked.
"Can I have a kiss?" She asked, causing my heart to melt. I smiled and nodded.
"Of course. Come here." I said, taking my daughter from my wife. I gave her a kiss.
"Mwah!" Rose said. Y/n and I laughed.
"I'm hungry. Can we eat now please?" Y/n asked.
"Well, how about Rose gives you a kiss and then we'll eat?" I asked. Before Y/n could even nod, Rose spoke.
"But I only want to kiss Daddy." She said.
"Why honey? That's not fair to Mommy." I asked and said.
"Because you're my favorite parent Daddy." Rose said. Y/n ran out of the room. We had always tried to teach Rose not to pick favorites, but I guess that didn't work.
"Rose, go apologize to Mommy right now." I said, setting her down.
"Why?" She asked.
"Because it wasn't very nice to Mommy." I said.
"But you're my favorite." She said.
"Well that's not fair to your mom. She does a lot for you, especially while I'm away, so I shouldn't even be your favorite. Now, I want you to apologize to Mommy, you upset her." I said. Rose nodded and I carried her up to mine and Y/n's bedroom. Y/n was crying.
"I'm sorry Mommy." Rose said when I set her on the bed. She crawled onto Y/n's lap. Y/n nodded and fake smiled.
"It's okay honey. I know you love your daddy, and guess what?" Y/n asked as she stopped crying.
"What?" Rose asked.
"I love him too." Y/n said, causing me to smile. Rose gave Y/n a kiss.
"Mwah!" Rose said. Y/n laughed a real laugh and her smile turned real.
"Thank you honey." Y/n said.
"You're welcome Mommy." Rose said.
"Hey Rosie, why don't you go play with your toys for a little bit while I talk to Mommy?" I asked. She nodded and I walked her to her room before going back into my room.
"What's up Shawny?" Y/n asked. I sat down on the bed with her.
"I know that the smile that you gave her was fake." I said. Y/n hung her head.
"Yeah. It was. I just - I already knew that you were her favorite, but it just hurt to actually hear." She said. I kissed her forehead.
"But how can I be her favorite if I'm never even here?" I asked, tears now forming in my eyes.
"Stop, you're here all of the time." She said.
"No, I'm always either at the studio, LA, or some awards show." I said, shaking my head. Y/n wiped my tears away.
"But when you are here, you play with her, you take her to the park and the library so you can get books, and then you read those books to her. You dote on her and most importantly, you love her, and that's why you're her favorite. I just have to come to accept the fact that I'm second best." Y/n said.
"No. I mean, I do those things but still, you don't come second best. We're supposed to be equal." I said.
"Maybe I'll be this next one's favorite." Y/n said with a smile and laugh. I stopped crying and smiled at her.
"Maybe. And then I'll be very jealous." I said.
"No, you know you're my number one. You're my best friend." She said. I leaned my forehead against hers, knowing how much she loves it when I do that. She closed her eyes and hummed.
"The pancakes are probably getting cold." I said. She then ran to the bathroom and got sick. I got her a water and went back upstairs so I could give it to her and rub her back.
"Damn this morning sickness." She said. I kissed her forehead and she soon finished puking.
"Do you want to eat?" I asked. She shook her head.
"No, sorry baby." She said, starting cry. Damn these pregnancy hormones, they're going to make her cry which is going to break my heart.
"Why are you sorry?" I asked while pulling her in for a hug.
"Because you made me breakfast but I'm not hungry." She said.
"It's okay. You'll eat later, right?" I said and asked. She nodded.
"Yeah. The doctor's appointment is tomorrow, so don't forget it." She said as she stopped crying. I nodded.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world." I said. We got Rose and went downstairs.
"Mommy why aren't you eating?" Rose asked while she ate her pancakes.
"Well, Mommy got sick so I'm not hungry right now." Y/n said, playing with the rose that was in the glass vase on the kitchen table. Rose nodded.
The next day Y/n and I found out that we were a month along in the pregnancy, but it was too early to tell the gender. We went back to my parent's house and picked up Rose. My mom pulled me aside as my dad talked to Y/n and Rose.
"So, how far along is Y/n?" My mom asked. My eyes widened. We hadn't told anyone yet.
"What are you talking about?" I asked, trying to play it off.
"Oh come on Shawn, a mother knows these things. You've been so much gentler with her. Not that you were ever rough with her, but you've been helping her sit down, and you're constantly asking her how she's feeling and if she's okay and stuff like that." My mom said. I nodded. The gig was up.
"Okay, okay, we're pregnant, but you can't tell anyone, okay?" I asked.
"I pinkie promise I won't even your father or Aaliyah. So, how far along is she?" My mom said and asked.
"One month." I said with a smile. My mom smiled at me, it was a really big smile.
"Oh yay! The countdown can begin." She said. I laughed.
"Alright, let's get back there." I said. My mom nodded and Rose, Y/n and I soon left.
"What was that about?" Y/n asked me when I got in the car.
"What was what about?" I asked.
"Your mom pulling you aside." She said.
"Oh, I'll tell you when we get home." I said. She nodded and we soon arrived back at our house. When we got inside Y/n put Rose down for a nap before coming to sit on the couch in the living room with me.
"Sooo, what was it about?" Y/n asked.
"She goes 'how far along is she?' so I tried to play it off like I had no clue what she was talking about but then she pointed out how I've been more gentle with you and always asking if you're okay or if you need anything so basically she knows." I said.
"Is she going to tell anybody?" Y/n asked. I shook my head.
"No, not even my dad and Aaliyah. Now, we've had a long day, let's go take a nap." I said. Y/n nodded and we went upstairs. Rose soon woke us up. Oh well. The next day Y/n and I decided to tell Rose that she was going to be a big sister.
"Rose?" Y/n asked as she sat Rose down on the couch in front of us.
"Yes Mama?" She asked.
"Daddy and I have something to tell you." My wife said.
"What is it? Am I getting a puppy?" Rose asked. Y/n and I laughed and shook our heads.
"No," I said. "You're going to get either a baby brother or baby sister! Isn't that exciting?" I asked. Rose started to cry.
"I don't want one." Rose said.
"Why not Rosie girl?" I asked.
"Because then you and Mommy won't love me anymore." She said. Y/n and I looked at each other, and I'm sure her heart had broken when she heard that too.
"Oh honey, Daddy and I love you very much and that will never, ever, change." Y/n said. I nodded.
"That's right. You'll always be my Rosie girl, my sweet pea, my baby." I said. Rose smiled as she stopped crying.
"Okay. I guess I could live with a little sister." Rose said.
"What if you have a little brother?" Y/n asked.
"No, boys have cooties and they're weird." Rose said. I pretended to be offended.
"What? Are you saying that I have cooties and that I'm weird?" I asked.
"No, I like you Daddy." Rose said with a giggle.
"That's good because I like you too. In fact, I love you, with everything in me." I said, and then peppered her face with kisses, causing her to laugh like crazy.
"Shawn stop or she'll pee her pants." Y/n said. I immediately stopped.
"Too late." Rose said.
"Okay, it's bath time." I said, picking her up carefully. I then gave her a bath and it was soon time for bed.
"Goodnight Mommy, Goodnight Daddy." Rose said when I laid her down.
"Goodnight sweet pea. Mommy and I love you." I said, but she was already asleep.
"Man, she falls asleep fast." Y/n said. I quietly laughed as her and I headed to bed. We got under the covers and I put my hand on her belly.
"Honey?" I asked.
"Yes Shawny?" She asked.
"Can I sing to your belly?" I asked. Y/n smiled and nodded. I took the blanket off myself so I could be closer to her belly, and started to sing Never Be Alone, my own song. Soon, Y/n was asleep. I placed a gentle kiss on my wife's belly and then went laid back down and went to sleep. I love my growing family so much.
