Mother Bird

Two separate lives

tied together with the occasional "I love you"

in a cage disguised as home.

A bird who has forgotten how to fly

tries to teach her young the skill

she is estranged to these days.

It feels the puzzle does not fit

with you so suddenly at the leading hang

when I had been your guidance for so long.

Still I look out for my own,

and you for yours,

we are strangers yet again.

A misgiving cycle

taught the resistance of change.

Your broken wing leads you in circles

and I fear the day I'll see you fall.

I am learning to fly on my own,

maybe with all the wrong techniques.

But I wish for nothing more,

than to watch you soar.
