Chapter 85 - Sparring With The Devil

Tensions were rising amongst those few select students, as Midoriya, Kirishima, Ochaco and Tsu kept silent for the majority of the next couple of days. It was a normal weekday and Mr Aizawa had set up a training session for Class 1A today, booking one of the training halls for them to focus their work on.

Toru was already bothering Ochaco and Tsu as they both adorned tight lipped expressions while they changed into their PE uniforms.

"Come on, guys!" She pleads, flitting around them like a bothersome insect. "We know you two have been acting really weird for ages and we wanna know why!"

"Toru," Momo includes herself, placing one hand on the invisible girls shoulder and the other on her own chest. "The hero agency's are probably really challenging for them right now. I'm sure they're both exhausted from all the hard work they're putting in."

"No, no," Toru argues. "Those are not the kind of faces you make by just being tired."

Everyone was aware that the two girls have been hiding something the whole time - the pro heroes probably swore them to secrecy.

"If they wanted to tell us," Kira adds, pulling her shirt over her head. "Then they would have done already. As much as I want to know what's going on too, we're not going to, Toru. So, you should probably drop it already. I'm not sure you wanna add guilt to their pile of emotions, right?"

Ochaco and Tsu stare at Kira with thankful eyes, but she had to force herself to look away. After all, she's nothing but a liar. Their secrecy is nagging at her constantly. Especially since Kirishima is acting the same way and seeing him distraught causes her agony.

Akira accompanied the girls out to the training building, where Cementoss has been previously. A huge array of cement pillars tower above Kira in all shapes and sizes, creating a perfect arena of sorts. At the far end of the hall is a climbing tower, carefully made with precision from their fellow teacher, so that there are footholds and handholds so that the students can crawl themselves to the top.

"This is where we'll begin," Aizawa informs the eager students, leading them over to said climbing apparatus. "This warm up will hopefully strengthen your limbs for today's training session and test your stamina. Come on then - five of you, step up and climb."

Mina, already full of energy, races ahead, followed by Sero, Kaminari, Iida and Toru. Kira watches them scale the wall with surprising speed. This task is to be done without Quirks, so they have to rely on their own physical strength. Mina makes it up first, then Iida, Sero, Toru and finally Kaminari. The latter drags himself over the edge, each leg hanging over as he heaves himself away, dragging his chest along the concrete.

She could hear the five of them bicker up high on the platform as Aizawa summoned the next group to participate.

"Geez, Kaminari!" Toru exclaims. "Are you training at all?"

"Don't patronise me!" He whines, now lying on his back to pant at the faraway ceiling.

Kira decides to accompany this group on the wall, but Kirishima's meek posture halts her momentarily and she places a hand on his shoulder to provide comfort.

"You gonna have a go?" She wonders.

"I'll, uh... I'll take the next one." He tries a warm smile, but she can instantly tell that it's fake.

"Okay." She nods, standing before the wall.

She analyses a path up, checking out all the cracks and gashes where holds have been created. A few others have decided to take the second go at the wall, including: Momo to her right, Shoji on her left with Todoroki beside him. On the far end, on the other side of Momo is Mineta. Kira's face goes slack at the sight of him, knowing that he'll go slow on purpose so he can sneak a peek.
