Chapter 84 - An Unfortunate Reveal

Start from the beginning

Suffice it to say, the bus ride back to UA was uncomfortably quiet, as if any slight fidget would make Aizawa pop off at them again, or maybe even cause Bakugou to explode. He chose to take a seat at the front of the bus, his head down, clearly deep in thought. From Akira's seat, she couldn't see his expression clearly, but his silence was enough to unnerve her.

"Straight inside," Aizawa says, when they pull up outside the dormitory. "I suggest you three go to sleep immediately. You have another day of this tomorrow."

Kira nods slightly, as she steps off the bus and enters the dorms, where the other students were waiting for them to hear all about their first day. The three of them just stood there, clutching their cases with a tight grip.

"Kacchan!" Midoriya nearly skips over. "How was it!?"

"Out of my way!" The blonde retaliates, pushing his way through the crowd.

"Wow, what's got him in a mood?" Mina wonders.

Kira sighs, watching Bakugou ignore the persistant bickering from Kaminari and Sero, as they flock him, begging for details.

"We all kinda got an earful from Aizawa before we got here," Kira explains. "It wasn't good."

"If it's from Mr Aizawa, then it's going to be anything but good," Yaoyorozu says, concern pinching her brows.

"Pretty sure Bakugou could use an earful, don't you think?" Kirishima adds. "I'm sure he wasn't particularly cooperative during the exam."

"Cooperative?" Kira frowns at the term. "That is one of the many words that you would not use to describe Bakugou."

"That's what I thought," he says, shaking his head as he watches Kaminari jump all over Bakugou in an attempt to get him to spill.

"Kacchan made it difficult for you Todoroki?" Midoriya wonders, taking his suitcase for him.

"He's getting there," Todoroki decides to say.

"Getting there?" Kira nearly laughs. "You saw him out there. He wouldn't work with us until the very. Last. Second." She stops herself from insulting her classmate further. "Anyway, it's not all his fault."

Akira smoothes her fingertips over the scar on her neck and Kirishima's gaze drops to her throat, his eyes shimmering in the pale living room light.

"I was the reckless one in the end," she says quietly. "Cocky even."

"Kiriya-"

"Don't say it wasn't, Todoroki," Kira cuts him off. "I thought I had it all figured out at the very end, but the truth is, I'm not ready to become a pro hero. Much like Bakugou isn't... and neither are you, actually. We all have our obstructive faults to overcome, no matter how different they may be." Kira drags her eyes over to Bakugou as he hurls Kaminari over the back of the sofa. "We just have to hope that Aizawa is the one to get through to him."

Akira had bid them all a good night's sleep after that, as she dragged her legs to her dorm room. Kirishima didn't even try to pester her about her first day of the exam and for that, she's grateful. He must assume that Kira's wiped, a whole day of intense training with her difficult classmates.

But, Akira didn't even want to go to sleep. She needed someone to talk to. She wanted her father.

She stared up at the ceiling, the curtains flapping in the wind, her arm limp across her forehead. A chill brushed across her bare skin and Kira shivered before sitting up, her mind a nightmare. It was quiet up here on the fourth floor, but Kira's certain that everyone else is celebrating downstairs. Maybe Bakugou's even decided to join them, but whether that's with the help of the relentless Kaminari, Kira only has her imagination for that.
