Kind words

"Why is daddy leaving again?" Tessie asks as she stands in the doorway with me, seeing Liam off. He's going to meet with Jim, the PI he hired, and Colin for the third time this week, unfortunately there hasn't been much progress in digging up more information about Australia or anything really.

I card several fingers through her hair gently, unbraiding her hair from last night. "He has to go to a meeting sweetie, I'm sorry. He'll be home tonight to play and hang out though."

"But I wanted him to play with me outside when we go to the park," She sighs. "and we can't go tonight, it's gonna be too dark!"

"Maybe another time will work better, your daddy is just a little busy right now. Remember? Before he started sort of living here we saw him so much less! We have to take what we can get right now and be happy, because not too long ago we hardly ever saw him."

"Maybe..." Tessie says, frowning at me. "I still just wish he'd come play in the park."

"What's this I hear?" Louis calls as he makes his way down to us from the kitchen. "The park? And playing in it?! I'm in!" Tessie pulls away from both of us with a dirty look and walks into the living room. "Am I in?" Louis asks me, actually a little confused.

"She's getting a little sassy lately." I explain. "Saying 'no' more often and wanting things catered to and around her. It's just a phase, she was relatively easy as a two year old except for when it came to baths and nap times, occasional. Trust me, she'll grinning and jumping into your arms within ten minutes."

"Children are odd." Louis shakes his head. "You don't think Darcy will be too much trouble do you? Because whenever I bring her food she always turns her head away at least three times before she starts eating."

I laugh slightly at his stricken expression. "It all depends on whether or not you two spoil her, I guess. She seems a perfect angel to me. Didn't you get her to sleep through the night very easily?"

"That is true," he preens a little. "She's a gem. Spoiling though, that might be a bit of a problem. And will be something to discuss. Harry and I haven't really decided who gets to be the mean parent yet."

"You don't have to be mean, just put your foot down." I roll my eyes at him as we join the girls in the living room where they're watching something on disney channel. "And don't let them get away with too much." I'm aggressively ignoring the fact that there's probably a sink full of dirty dishes in the kitchen.

"If you say so...I'm not quite sure how to work this whole parent thing. It'll be a teamwork I guess."

"What? You two have been doing wonderful, what do you mean about not getting the 'parent' thing?" I ask him. It's puzzling really, once the adoption was finalized everything seemed to go smoothly for the two of them. There were no irregular health issues, Darcy took to feeding quickly and never caused any trouble as far as I heard, and is quite the sleeper.

"Both of our parents got divorced, and I mean they've both remarried happily, but it's just unsettling sometimes. I'm not afraid that we'll get divorced really, I'm just afraid that maybe there's some key thing we missed out on that we won't be able to give to Darcy. I mean, my mom is my hero. She raised all of us wonderfully and kept us hanging onto our dreams when we lost hope in ourselves. She's the strongest person I know, but what if there was some life lesson I was meant to learn from my dad?" He shrugs dramatically. "I've never gone fishing with him and he didn't buy me my first drink, you know cliche things you see in the movies."

"I don't think you've missed anything at all." I reassure him in what I hope is a soothing voice "Yeah maybe you only had a single parent growing up, but you've turned out into a wonderful man who is already a great father. No one is going to be perfect. You just have to try your best. I think you're doing a good job, both of you." At some point while Louis was talking Harry snuck into the room and stood behind the couch listening to our conversation, nodding along with something his husband said occasionally. I include him in my gaze and smile at the both of them.

They're two of the best people that I know. "You know," I say, feeling a bit nostalgic suddenly. "You two were one of the reasons that I ever believed in true love."

Louis seems to realize Harry is behind him and reaches out a hand for his husband, pulling him closer until Louis is half leaning against Harry's stomach. "Why's that Izzy?"

"Are you kidding? Have you seen the two of you? As we used to say back in the day," I pull a face mockingly. "you're so extra."

"Only a little." Harry smirks.

"Seeing the two of you and hearing about how you met and the Script concert and the battle of the bands speculation...it all seemed like fate. With all that you weathered throughout the years as closeted celebrities and how you look at each, it all added together to paint a picture of a love story. I'm not the only one who thought so, I've heard other fans say that you convinced them that soulmates exist." I take a deep breath, getting a little worked up speaking too quickly to breath in between. "If there's anyone who can work together and figure 'this parenting thing' as you called it, it's the two of you."

HI enjoy :P Sorry it's a bit eh but...
