A mother-daughter day

The next day Liam calls me just as I've woken up to tell me that he won't be bringing Tessie over today, they've decided to make it a family day. It's encouraging for me. Sometimes I think that it's unhealthy for a child to be away from her parents so often. And I'm more than happy to have a day off, to myself and alone to spend time with Cailyn. She's loved having a friend over nearly every single day, but I've noticed she does get a little extra needy sometimes, once Tessie has left. So when I tell her Tessie won't be coming over today her response is rather funny. Her face falls for a second but then she gets a gleam in her eye.

"So you'll play with me all day, an just me right mommy?" she asks, grinning up at me and hugging my side as I prepare breakfast.

"Well, I don't know about all day. You'll still be taking a nap and giving me some mommy time..." I see her face scrunch up in sadness and quickly add "-but yes, we will be playing together a lot today, for sure!" I wink at her and she giggles happily.

"I'm gonna go get it ready for after breakfast. You stay here and cook, no peaking!" she runs out of the kitchen, waving a finger at me.

"Call me if you need help, mi hija!" I call after her

"NO! I'm okay, I don't need help. It's a surprise." she replies, still giggling with whatever fun game she's planning for us. Hopefully it's not one involving me lifting her multiple times or giving her free reign to climb all over my body, it's times like those where I do which we had a man in our lives...

Several hours later and several slightly painful games later, I'm beginning to get tired and so is Cailyn. "It's almost time for your nap," I remind her. She had an energy burst after lunch but now that's wearing off. She yawns and nods.

"I wanna watch a movie first. Let's watch a movie." she taps her lip and walks over to the little cabinet where we keep our DVDs. "What should we watch mommy?"

"Whatever you want, just let's not watch that new princess movie that Tessie likes so much. I'm getting a little tired of it."

"What about an old princess one?" she suggests as she takes out a few cases, stacking them beside her.

"If that's what you want to watch, it's fine with me." I tell her. She nods and lays out a few movies in front of her. After thinking for a minute she puts away all but one and returns back to the couch with me. She hands me the case and I see she's picked Beauty & The Beast, our favorite Disney princess. "Good choice!" I tickle her side and take my laptop off of the desk and set it on my lap on the couch. I start the movie and maneuver Cailyn so she's tucked up by my side and underneath my blanket. I doubt she'll make it through the entire movie without falling asleep, but that's one of the things I love about these free days. How peaceful and relaxing it is. I can just sit and enjoy a movie with my daughter and laugh with her as the characters sing and dance and make jokes. I pull her closer and try to take it all in, after all...she won't be this young for forever.

**just realized I've been spelling "mi hija" wrong. I'd never seen it written down, only heard it and I assumed (because when you say it, it sounds like a single world) that the two words were merged. Whoops! Not the case, so sorry. I'll change it whenever I do a book edit when I finish. So from now on it'll be correct though. Like or comment pleaseeee ^-^
