"You ready for our run?" Steve was waiting on the porch when you both came in. You headed directly into the kitchen to put your flowers into a vase.
"Nice flowers, good choice Tinman" Sam gave an honest compliment, still trying to annoy Bucky.
"Aren't they beautiful?" you gushed, smelling them again. Nat came over and took a smell of them, grinning widely at you.
"Well done" she looked to Bucky and winked.
"I'll be right out" you turned with a dreamy look on your face headed into the bedroom. You didn't even argue when Nat came in and plopped on the bed while you looked for your workout clothes.
"Dish" she whispered.
"It was a coffee date, and it was delightful. He's a true gentleman" you couldn't help the grin that came over your face. Nat thought that look would light up a room. She was happy for you. "I can't believe he bought me flowers" you gushed in a whisper.
"What else happened?" she poked for more info.
"Everyone knew I would be leaving, the moment I walked in. They asked me to come back and visit as much as I can. I'm most worried about Maria I think. She's such a sweetheart, and has always been scared someone would disappear from her life. I told her she just has to call, and I'll come so she would feel a bit better" you admitted.
"You really care for that family" she stated the obvious while you finished changing your leggings and put on the sky blue sports bra.
"They became my family" you admitted. "I was just scared to admit it until now. It seems a lot has changed now that I don't have to mask all of my emotions, and that I'm getting used to the whole touching thing" you shrugged.
"That's still a work in progress" Nat shrugged. "You still freeze up when we hug you without warning, or kiss your cheek"
"That might take some work" you blushed a deep red, and bit your bottom lip thinking about how Bucky had kissed you earlier.
"He didn't?!" Nat suddenly exclaimed in glee.
"What?" you looked at her confused putting on your sneakers.
"Bucky finally made a move?" she almost shrieked trying to keep her voice in a whisper.
"Shhh!" you were beat red.
"Tell me everything!" she demanded.
"It was perfect, amazing, mind blowing..." you trailed off, smiling again as you remembered the feeling of his lips on yours. "Better than the books"
"Hey! You ready yet?!" Sam called from down the hall.
"I have to go" you looked down, stretching your calves a little.
"This conversation isn't over" Nat went and opened the door while you folded your clothes to wear again later.
"Ready doll?" Bucky was waiting by the door, with a grin on his face. You quickly nodded, trying not to flush under his gaze. He touched the small of your back as you passed by him, and you looked up at him through your eyelashes biting your bottom lip. He gave a small groan, and you giggled breaking into a small run to catch up to Sam and Steve. Bucky was quickly behind you putting his hand on the small of your back again. You looked over at him with a smile so big, it almost hurt your face.
"You guys take the lead today, I have another route I'm going to take a bit more into the woods" you stretched a little more. "I wont be far behind you, and the dogs will be with me" you looked at Bucky who was about to argue.
"We could follow you, Sam can take the normal path" Steve offered.
"I'll be fine, I know these woods like the back of my hand" you shrugged.
"But that creature in the woods last night..." Bucky trailed off as you put a hand on his cheek.
"Is likely long gone by now. I'm going to be looking for tracks, that's all"
"Promise you will yell for us if you need us" he touched your cheek as well, making you blush.
"Promise" you smiled. "Now you boys get a move on"
"You heard the lady, lets go old timers" Sam started down the path with the other two close behind him. You started to follow, but went a little slower, watching for the claw marks in the earth and in the tree's. There was a lot more of them today, the shrubbery was also ripped up a bit. You took the longer way down, away from the first right turn and continued along the river watching closely to see where the disturbances were. You found the first clue you were looking for towards the second, but longer running path. A patch of fur, you touched it curiously and you heard Leia start growling at the sight of it.
Starting at a slow walk, you turned down the path, double tapping the inhibitors feeling the familiar shimmer on your hands. You had a feeling that someone wasn't dead like you though they were, and they were on your land hunting you. It was the only thing that made sense at this point. The fur matched his, and you remember the enhanced man was brutal, efficient, and incredibly smart. You just had to figure out if it was a retrieval or if you were on his kill list. You ducked through some more tree's finding more clues of fur and claw marks. He wasn't exactly trying to hide. You heard something move through the trees to your left, and looked over seeing the tall wolflike creature stalking you.
"Phoenix" he growled at you. "I knew you lived" he started making his way closer.
"Wolfman" you carefully schooled your features while Leia, Chewy, and Harry started going nuts. "Did they ever figure out how to make you more human?" you knew you were pissing him off.
"I'm more human than you, traitor" he growled deep in his throat and took another step towards you.
"How can you still be their lapdog, after everything they did to us?" you were careful to keep your distance.
"I'm not their lapdog, I'm their soldier. I'm the best they have" he spoke with malice.
"You came after a downed jet" you rolled your eyes feeling your shimmer come on a bit more as he took a step closer.
"I came for answers and found you traitor" he growled again.
"Did you call it in?" you looked him in the eyes, seeing the yellow studying you closely.
"Why bother, when I can just kill you and they'll never know" the wolfen features took on a smile that was sickly and disgusting.
"Your biting the hand that feeds you" you spoke lightly, but felt the ice starting to want to take over. He wasn't going to stop with you if he wanted real credit. He would go after the others, and they would be unaware.
"You BURNT ME PHOENIX!" he yelled. "Now give me the phoenix, and I'll defeat you in your true form" he took several steps towards you.
"Leia, Harry, Chewy. Home. PROTECT" you barked the orders and started running back to the river where you were closer to an element you wouldn't destroy, while the dogs took off back to the cabin. You felt claws rip at your skin as you ran, and blood started coming down your back. Your anger at the fact that he would go after your friends was overwhelming while you ran out over the river freezing the water around each footstep. Screw the burns, and the pain that would come. You knew you needed to take this seriously, it was back to kill or be killed. You thought of the kiss with Bucky and felt the fire start to take over and took a jump into the air feeling the claws scratch at you again. Surrounded by your fire bubble you were high enough up that you knew it was as safe as you were going to get for now. You thew a few spears of fire at him, one hitting him just barely on the side.
"Phoenix, you aren't showing your real powers" he growled at you.
"I have a name, and its Y/N" you threw another spear and struck him through the shoulder while he jumped up almost hitting you inside your fire bubble. "You don't need to do this Damien" you added softly. "You have a choice"
"That's not my name anymore!" he yelled.
"It will always be your name" you spoke calmly. "You have a choice, you can be free"
"I want to kill" he growled and leapt at you. You let the flames go, and threw up ice walls around you to block him.
"They made you think that, but you were just a sweet boy when it started. You don't need to do this" you kept repeating yourself.
"You don't understand Phoenix. I want to" he was scratching at the 20 foot walls of ice while you started calling on the ice as much as you could. You could feel your anger at all those years that you were just another pawn. The transformation started, giving Damien what he wanted. You felt your hair starting to turn into a frost like color and your skin blue. The wings started coming out of your back made of ice. They fluttered to imaginary wind, as if made of real feathers. You shot up into the sky and threw a spear of ice at him while he was distracted.
"Finally" he leapt towards you, being able to jump un-naturally high and you used a spear to block his attack.
"I'm not the phoenix any longer" you created another spear to throw at him.
"Y/N?!" you heard Steve and Bucky call over at the same time, seeing Tony not far behind with the others fully decked out in their armor.
"RUN!" you yelled, feeling the claws sink into your thigh.
"I'll kill them after I'm done killing you" Damien laughed. You heard a bullet shot, and then saw an arrow hit him in the side, but he didn't even register them. You pulled away, and saw the blood dripping down your leg. You saw them all running towards where you were, while Tony and Sam were getting close to you in the sky.
"Stay back" you warned them, as you concentrated on turning the ice to flames. The wings surprisingly remained. You threw another spear getting him in the leg. Tony blasted him with his repulsons', then Bucky and Steve tackled Damien as he started falling backwards. "Claws!" you yelled at them, feeling your heart in your throat. Steve pulled Bucky back, and blocked a blow with his shield. Natasha and Clint continued to shoot as they got closer to the fight.
You folded your wings while you went to the ground, while Tony and Sam also continued at shooting at Damien. You knew that he had super soldier serum in him and he was already a fast healer. You started sparring him, trying to block his claws as they came. You saw an opening and took it.
"You wanted the Phoenix?" you grabbed him by the throat as he started to be covered in flames. "Do you feel my pain yet? Do you feel the pain of your victims Damien?" you whispered as you saw him starting to burn alive. "Did you really think I would let you hurt them?" you threw him into the water, seeing he was burnt to the brink of death but still alive. He sat up looking at you, the acrid smell of burning flesh and hair filling the air while the others were shocked an unmoving. "You'll heal. Go away from here, and never return. I will not kill you, as you wish" you spread your wings menacingly.
"I don't want your pity! Its kill or be killed" he got up lunging at you. There was a bang, and his dead body landed at your feet with an arrow and five gunshot wounds in the head.
"Y/N, you need to call back the fire and let us look at those wounds" Natasha started walking over to you, Bucky already standing just outside of the flames gazing at you with worry.
"He might still get up" you refused to believe it.
"We all shot him, he's not coming back from that" Clint kicked the corpse.
"Give me a second, its hurting a lot" you tried pulling back your emotions. When that wasn't working you finally just hit the inhibitors and screamed out in pain. Your legs were giving out, but you didn't hit the ground. Bucky grabbed you and held you close, ignoring the burning sensation on his flesh.
"Put me down, your getting hurt" you felt tears in your eyes.
"We gotta get her to Bruce" Tony landed and looked at them. "I'll take her back" he nodded to Bucky and Nat before taking you up in the air and heading back to the cabin.
