Ashton: "Maybe there's nothing after midnight that could make you stay,"

Your breath hitched upon the realization that midnight was drawing near, every passing second felt like a stab to the chest and you felt like you were dying a little inside as the clock approached the dreaded time. The curly haired boy you were seated next to had promised to leave right after midnight, despite your wish to be with him a little while longer. You didn't really know what to do or say at this point, knowing that he wasn't going to change his mind about leaving as soon as the clock struck midnight. He had to go, of course, it wasn't like he was your boyfriend or anything. He was just the boy who offered you a shoulder to cry on at eleven o'clock P.M when you felt as if the world was against you, and you needed to vent to someone and cry to make yourself feel better. You two weren't even that close, he was just your best friend's friend, who just happened to be the cutest boy you've ever laid your eyes on. You hesitantly rested your head on his shoulder, hoping he wouldn't mind at all. When he didn't react, you relaxed, smiling in contentment as you felt his warmth against your skin. But once his phone had gone off, indicating that your time with him was up, he gently pushed you away with an apologetic smile. You frowned, not bothering to hide the disappointment on your face as he picked up his phone. "Is there really nothing I could do to make you stay the night?" Ashton shook his head no, placing his hand on your shoulder after shoving his phone in his jean pocket. "I'm sorry." He stood up, peering over his shoulder to look at you once more, before leaving. This wasn't a damn Cinderella story, and there was no happy ending for the two of you as you watched your own version of Prince Charming head out the door just seconds after midnight, reminding yourself that this prince already had a Cinderella, and it just wasn't you.

Michael: "Everybody's got their demons, even wide awake or dreaming,"

You could feel the sunlight dancing on your skin, enjoying its warmth as you laid in the meadows. The puffy white clouds floating in the sky passed you by, and you watched them in contentment, pointing out a few clouds that have formed shapes or resembled animals. "Hey," A voice spoke, and a smiling red haired boy suddenly appeared beside you. "Michael," You breathed out, a wave of surprise and relief washing through you once you saw the gorgeous boy you had feelings for. You reached out to hold his hand, but the boy vanished into thin air, as if he was never there in the first place. No, he was just here, you thought to yourself as you sat up, checking the surroundings to see where he might have gone. He's gone, you heard a voice hiss in your ear. You shook your head, knowing Michael wouldn't leave you all alone like this - he promised that he wouldn't leave. You know very well that people make promises yet break them in the end, the voice said once again but you fought back once more. Michael wouldn't, but the voice just laughed as it replied with certainty. You don't know that. Doubt began to seep into your heart, and you frantically turned everywhere to find the boy you've been longing for. "Michael?" The once pure white clouds suddenly turned into a dark, ominous color and the formerly blue sky became a slate gray. Thunder rumbled, as you began to run, searching for the ray of light in the darkness of your mind and your heart. He promised. "Michael...?" He promised he won't leave. He loves me. "Michael..." If he really does love you, where is he then? "Michael!" You jolted awake, sitting up as you felt fresh tears stream down your face. The red haired boy you were searching for was holding you tightly in his arms, shushing you as you thrashed around. "Shh, I'm here. It's just a dream," He whispered lowly, running his hand down your head in order to comfort you. It was just a dream, you reassured yourself as you wrapped the boy in an embrace, afraid that if you let him go, he will vanish just like he did in that dream. "I won't leave," he murmured, and you could feel yourself begin to calm down. "I love you." You choked out a sob, knowing that your heart will never fully believe that wouldn't leave, no matter how many times he'd say it. You knew, because the darkness in your heart would swallow every bit of happiness you would ever experience, robbing you of all the light you once knew. "I-I love you too, Michael."

Calum: "Now I'm holding on for dear life, there's no way that we could rewind,"

The hot tears continued to stream down your face, as you cast your eyes downward, not wanting to see your ex boyfriend's expression, whatever it may be. You fumbled with the hem of the shirt you were wearing, biting down on your bottom lip to try and prevent any sobs from leaking out of your mouth. You made a huge mistake, and you were here to take back what you've left behind. You were hopeful, and you've never felt that way in a long time. Every flicker of hope was extinguished by the darkness and the demons living inside your brain and your heart, and it was a miracle that this small flicker of hope was still burning, no matter how dim. "Calum?" You managed to squeak out, daring to meet those chocolate brown eyes you love so much. The dark skinned boy had a heartbroken expression on his face, tears leaking out of his dark brown eyes with his bottom lip quivering. He slowly opened his mouth to speak, but that tiny spark of hope burned out immediately when you heard the words you've dreaded to hear. "I can't do this anymore," he took a step back, his brown eyes showing determination as he stared right back at you with a heartbroken expression mirroring your own. "No! I-Please, I promise I won't make that mistake again," You took a step forward, causing the tall boy to take another step backward. "Don't do this to me, Calum. Please." Another step, and the boy rapidly shook his head as his expression melted into a hardened one, no longer showing weakness. "No, you did this to yourself. You've done this way too many times, and I'm tired of trying to understand. You're not the only one who gets hurt in this relationship." Darkness began to swirl deep inside your heart once more, as the memories of all the mistakes you've made replayed in your head. And you realized that every single time, Calum forgave you and did his best to understand you. You were panicking, you didn't know what else to do to make him stay with you, just like he always did. "No, please! I-I can change." You grabbed hold of his arm, holding onto him for dear life, both literally and figuratively. You couldn't lose the one person who didn't give up on you, you just couldn't. You don't know how long you can hold on without Calum, who was your own anchor to keep yourself sane. "I'm sorry." He pried your fingers off his arm, and turned to walk away, leaving you there to break down completely upon the realization that you had absolutely no one left.

Luke: "Cause I've got a jet black heart, and there's a hurricane underneath it trying to keep us apart,"

You were seated on your bed, with your back against the wall and your head buried in between your knees. You've got wet tears running down your face, and new ones kept flowing out of your eyes every now and then. Your head was throbbing from all the crying you've done this past hour, and you were surprised that your tear ducts haven't run out yet. You brought your arms around your legs, hugging them as you tried to make yourself as small as possible, the demons living inside your head making the aching in your chest even worse. You were exhausted, you wanted to stop the pain and the crying, but your body just wouldn't listen. You sniffled, sobs escaping your lips once more as the thought of a beautiful blonde boy with the bluest pair of eyes you've ever seen invaded your mind. Luke. He was the only thing that managed to make you feel something other than the bottomless pit of sadness that swallows you every damn day. In your world of lifelessness and black and white, he was the only thing bursting with life and color. Luke was the best thing that's ever happened to you, and he was the only thing that made you feel glad to be alive since forever. He was everything and you've ever wanted and a little bit more, and he made you feel happy and loved, which was the feeling you've been craving since the darkness took over your heart. Everything was going well with the two of you, until your demons decided to take every single bit of happiness that Luke managed to place in that jet black heart of yours. Your demons convinced you that you never deserved happiness, this was something you couldn't ever have or feel, and you did exactly what you did best - you listened to them. You destroyed every small bit of happiness in your heart, pushing the one person who made you feel something other than overwhelming sadness away. You knew what you were doing, you knew what would happen if you continued on with extinguishing the spark of love Luke has managed to ignite within you. But you didn't care about that, you were still convinced that you didn't deserve that happiness so you destroyed everything and sent him away. It was all your fault. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," You said the words that you desperately wanted to tell Luke as he began to walk away earlier that day. You hoped that your apology may reach him, even if it was not possible to do so. You clutched your chest, right above your heart and swallowed the lump in your throat as you muttered words you'll never get to tell the boy you loved and lost.
