The next morning, I'm standing next to Owen in the ER preparing the ER staff for the incoming trauma that's coming in.

Owen: we don't have the numbers yet, but be prepared for as many as 20 casualties, many of them kids.

Meredith: what happened?

Savannah: a woman drove off a bridge with her two kids in the car. Witnesses are saying that the woman started speeding, she rammed a bunch of vehicles, and then took a sharp right off the bridge i-into the water. The police—

Owen: police believe this was intentional.

Edwards: oh my god.

Callie: with her kids?

Owen: let's cooperate with the police and do our jobs, okay?

Everyone disperses and I run out to the ambulance bay to meet with paramedics from the first ambulance that pulls up.

Savannah: what do we got?

Paramedic: 10 year old female, Mia James. GCS of 14 but was unconscious at the scene. Deep facial lac. Little brother and mom are right behind us.

Savannah: Mia, I'm Dr. Avery. Can you hear me?

Mia: where's my mom? Is she okay?

Savannah: we'll find out as soon as we can, sweetheart. Let's get her inside.

We start wheeling Mia inside. I meet with Owen and discuss where everyone is going as Meredith comes around.

Meredith: Hunt. Sav. Driver's in bad shape. We're taking her up. I'm gonna alert the OR.

Just then, a man approaches the desk.

Mr. James: I-I'm looking for my wife and kids. Uh, uh, Brooke James. Uh, kids are Mia and—

Owen: Parker, right?

Mr. James: they said some woman hit their car and drove off the bridge?

Owen: Mr. James, your wife is on her way to surgery. Your kids are being treated. Your wife was the driver. She... drove off the bridge.

Mr. James: what? Oh, no. T-that's crazy.

Savannah: sir—

Mr. James: no, she wouldn't do that. That's crazy.

Officer: Mr. James, can you come with us?

Mr. James: woah, woah, woah. Excuse me. She wouldn't do that.

Officer: can you come with us?

Savannah: let him see his kids first. He deserves to know that his kids are okay. Ella, do you mind taking Mr. James to see his kids, please? Mia and Parker James.

Ella: right away, Dr. Avery.

Officer: we're trying to do our job here, doctor.

Savannah: so are we. And as a doctor, I want to make sure that Mr. James knows that his kids are alive and being taken care of. So give him a damn minute to be a doctor.

I'm with Owen getting supplies, and I see Jeremy approaching us. How is he even here? He just got the worst news of his life, and he's at work.

Jeremy: Chief, uh, just wanted to let you know that I don't think Kepner's gonna make it in today. We had some news, um—

Owen: April's here.

Jeremy: wait. What?

Owen: yeah. She's been here all morning. She's just on her way up to surgery. Everything okay?
