I woke up with a bad headache. Thankfully, my daughter comes into my room with coffee, water, Advil and a bagel with cream cheese.

Savannah: what would I be without you?

Natalie: probably dead.

I chuckle as I take the Advil and drown it in water. Once I had my Advil, I start drinking my coffee. I get out of bed and get ready for work.

Natalie: wanna talk about what you said last night?

Savannah: what do you mean?

Natalie: that Jackson kissed Dr. Yang... and you didn't like it.

Oh God.

Savannah: sweetie, I was drunk. You know I say stupid stuff when I'm drunk.

Natalie: mom—

Savannah: listen, I gotta get to work. Love you!

I kiss Natalie then I run out of the house.

Savannah: I am never getting drunk again.

I let out a deep breath as I drive to the hospital. When I get there, I get paged by Derek.

Savannah: morning!

Derek: hey, Savannah. I know I've had you on my service a couple times already, but I like working with you. So, you're with me today.

Savannah: awesome!

Then, Meredith approaches us.

Meredith: hi, Savannah.

Savannah: hi, Meredith.

I remember passing by Meredith's room the first day of the merger. At the time, she was recovering from a kidney transplant. Derek has told me so much about her, all good things, and I want to get to know her more.

Meredith: Derek, Izzie is here with a patient for you.

Derek: Izzie's back? Wow.

I quickly remember the name. Izzie was fired on the first day of the merger. And she tried to fight Reed that day.

I follow Derek to the clinic and once we introduced ourselves to the patient, Derek starts his routine checkup.

Derek: so you're an evolutionary biologist?

Dr. Singer: mm. I was. I was part of a research team on my way to the Galápagos Islands, and suddenly, my father died. And, uh, of course I had to go home. Next thing I know, I'm back in Chehalis, marrying my high school sweetheart and teaching biology to life who would rather be anywhere else.

Derek: I hear you're an excellent teacher.

Dr. Singer: Isobel is an excellent student. She's gonna be a doctor herself someday... if she doesn't get too distracted.

Derek smiles at Izzie.

Derek: well, everything looks good, Dr. Singer. What we're gonna do is, uh, take some blood.

Dr. Singer: ouch.

Derek: and run some tests. Okay?

Dr. Singer: okay.

Derek: alright. Stevens?

Derek and Izzie leave and I prep Dr. Singer.

Savannah: okay, Dr. Singer, you're just going to feel a little pinch.

I start taking Dr. Singer's blood.

Dr. Singer: you're a very beautiful young lady.

I smile at the older man.
