I'm walking around the hospital with a cup of coffee in my hand. I make it to main entrance, and I notice everyone gathered around.

Savannah: morning, everybody. What're we watching?

April points up at the TV, and I watch the news broadcast.

Reporter: a major Seattle-area shooting. We have reports that a gunman has opened fire on students and faculty.

My heart dropped into my stomach. This can't be happening.

3rd Person POV:

A cup was dropped, and everyone turns around to see Savannah in a state of shock. She stayed frozen for about 10 seconds then runs away.

Jackson: I've got her.

Jackson runs after Savannah.

My POV:

I found myself in an on-call room sobbing my eyes out. I heard someone come into the on-call room and wrap their arms around me.

Jackson: shh, shh, shh. It's okay. I'm here.

I bury my face into Jackson's chest and continue to sob.

Jackson: I'm here. It's okay, bub. You're safe.

After about 5 minutes, I pull away from Jackson and wipe my tears.

Jackson: do you want to be alone?

Savannah: no. I need to work.

Jackson: Sav—

Savannah: I'm not going to stand by this time. I can't.

Jackson: are you sure you want to be here?

Savannah: I need to be. Come on.

I grab Jackson's hand and we run down to the ambulance bay. I grab my trauma gown and meet with everyone else.

Webber: Collins, you don't need to be here. You can go home.

Savannah: no. I'm staying, sir.

I let out a deep breath.

Owen: there are 15 ambulances on the way. Maybe more to come. First one is three minutes out.

Webber: people... people... our own trauma is fresh, and we are going to have feelings today, and there is no shame in that. What I want to say is, what we went through six months ago, they are going through right now, which makes them our brothers and sisters... which makes them fellow travellers, which makes them our own. So to the very best of our ability, we are gonna do our work first. And you're gonna have your feelings later.

I let out a deep breath. Webber is right. Today is going to be difficult, but I need to focus on patients. I need to be the best I can be today so I can save lives.

I notice Lexie crying, so I stand close to her.

Owen: Grey.

Lexie: I'm fine. I'm fine.

Mark: go to the pit, make sure we're stocked. Call the blood bank—

Lexie: I'm fine.

Savannah: Lex. Come on, sweetie. Call the blood bank and tell them to give us all the O-neg they have.

Lexie leaves the ambulance bay.

Jackson: Sav, go.

Savannah: I'm fine.

I take another deep breath as ambulances start pulling in.

Derek: Meredith, Savannah, you're with me. What do you have?
