I'm walking around the hospital, and I smile when I see Jackson approach me.
Jackson: hey, beautiful.
Savannah: hey, you.
Jackson placed a large cup of coffee in my hand and kissed my cheek.
Savannah: what would I be without you?
Jackson: dull.
I whack Jackson on the arm, which made him chuckle. I drink my coffee as Jackson wraps his arm around me. We continue walking around the hospital until we end up at the OR board. I notice Chief Webber writing his name on the board for a Whipple. That Bailey was supposed to perform.
Jackson: uh, excuse me, sir? You're– you're taking Bailey's Whipple?
Webber: is that a problem?
Jackson: no, not at all. No, I'm– I'm the resident on the case. I'm thrilled to be assisting you. I-I will be assisting you, right?
Webber: you can open. That way, Dr. Grey will be fresh when she dissects the neck of the pancreas from the portal vein.
Meredith: that's the hardest part.
Savannah: that's a fifth-year procedure, Chief.
Webber: it's what we've been practicing. And I'm telling you, you're ready. But if you don't think you're ready—
Meredith: no, no. I'm ready. I'm ready.
-later-
Lexie paged me, so I run to the room and I see her standing outside the door. I look inside and I see Callie inside the room in a hospital gown and she had gauze wrapped around both of her hands.
Savannah: what's up, Lexie?
Lexie: Callie has the chicken pox. I've been in there with her for a bit, and I need someone to switch with me. Have you had the chicken pox?
Savannah: yeah, when I was... 8.
Lexie: good. I need you to distract Callie.
Savannah: uh, sure.
I walk into the room and stand in front of Callie.
Savannah: hey, Callie. How're you feeling?
Callie: take off my gauze paws.
Savannah: no can do, Callie. You need to stop scratching. It's not good for you.
Callie: hey. I'm an Attending, you're a resident. As your superior, I'm ordering you to take them off.
Savannah: ... nope.
Callie: please let me scratch, just for five minutes.
Savannah: no. It'll scar.
Callie: I don't care. Scars are hot. Scars are badass. Scars are poetic. I'm begging you, Savannah.
Savannah: I'm sorry, Callie, but I'm saying no. I know you're in a lot of pain, but you're going to have to suffer through it.
Callie: I'm going crazy, Savannah. Not funny crazy. This is bad crazy, okay? It's dark crazy. I am in pain, Savannah.
Savannah: I know, and I'm sorry, but you're gonna have to tough it out.
Callie groans in pain.
Savannah: let me distract you from your pain. We don't really know each other all that well, so let's get to know each other a little. How does that sound?
Callie nods her head.
Savannah: any siblings?
Callie: no.
