Don't be tricked by the title - this is a cute one, I swear

For this one, imagine the Avengers compound is in the middle of a city, and not in the literal middle of nowhere

As you sat on the terrace of the Avengers compound and looked over the city below you, you were thinking about how beautiful it looked at that time of day, as you watched cars and people peacefully pass by

Unfortunately, this peace you felt was short lived, as your fear of heights got the better of you, making you automatically and awkwardly shuffle your seat backwards a bit, as you were afraid of falling

Luckily though, your mind was quickly taken off that by your best friend, that you may or may not have feelings for, waved a bowl of ramen in your face "Hungry?" Bucky asked, another bowl in his other hand

When you didn't respond for a few seconds because of your initial fear, he started to shake the bowl slightly to get your attention again, making you thank him and take the bowl

Before he sat down next to you, he gave you two chopsticks, making you thank him again

You didn't expect him to sit so close to you, but he didn't think anything of it

This meant you tried to hide your now red face behind your noodles, making him laugh and furrow his eyebrows as he looked at you

"What are you doing?" he laughed out - the sound of his laugh and his voice being enough to almost floor you

It was at that moment you realised that you had lifted your bowl right up to your face, but you didn't put it back down again, confusing him further "Didn't want to drop any" you mumbled, as he nodded and let out anther "Fair enough"

Then, silence fell over the pair of you, as darkness also began to cover the area

You averted your attention from your bowl to the sky in front of you, and it was absolutely gorgeous

The beautiful mix of orange and purple made Bucky stop eating from his bowl, as he was mesmerized by it

"Wow" he breathed out, his eyes reflecting the sunset, as his eyebrows raised and furrowed at the same time

Sunsets always made Bucky feel so peaceful, and you loved this so much about him, as you would occasionally find him out here on this terrace by himself, just looking out into the distance, waiting for the sun to go down

As he was transfixed by the beautiful sight in front of him, you took a few moments to look over him, as it wasn't often that Bucky found peace

He looked stunning - not that he doesn't anyways, but more than usual

The light being cast on his face highlighted the sharpness of his jawline, and made his steel blue eyes sparkle just like the stars above you

The vibrant hues and warm colours made him look so happy and contented, as a small smile formed at his pouty lips

The little dork then smiled a real smile- his white teeth making an appearance, and making his whole form look so much happier

Despite this, he looked vulnerable, like a child seeing his first sunset, and his soft side spilled out as he turned to look at you again

The expression on his face was heartwarming, as he was sat there, peace hugging him and his life giving him a break, while at the same time, it was heartbreaking, as it would be over soon

You smiled at him when he looked at you, but he didn't say anything to you until it had ended

"That was the best sunset I've ever seen" he said, placing his bowl on the floor next to him, his chopsticks sticking out of it, before speaking again "I think it's because you're here with me, Doll"

You couldn't help but notice a slight pink creep up into his cheeks as he said this, but you were distracted by the fact that you were so in love with your best friend, that you had to reply immediately so that you didn't scream and freak out, even though that's what you were doing inside

"Or maybe it's because you make the best ramen in the world" you said, laughing nervously, also placing your bowl on the floor next to you

Of course, you couldn't accept you were in love with him, as he was your best friend - you told each other you loved the other every day

With that, you were lost in thought again, but this time it was about Bucky

He looked around at the stars littering the sky, and after trying to make different shapes and patterns with them, he looked back to you

He was wondering why you hadn't spoken in a while, but he just now found out that you were zoned out, so he smiled, gave you a playful shove, and asked "Whatcha thinking about?"

As he asked this, his head tilted to the side and his eyes wondered around yours

You were deciding if you loved him or not, and as you looked back into his own eyes, you said "I'm scared of... falling"

You were falling in love with him, but you still denied it, but Bucky just looked back at the city below the two of you, examining it for a second, before regaining his eye contact with you "Don't worry, Doll, I'll catch you if you fall"

He thought you meant literally falling off the building, but you were hoping he would catch you physically and emotionally, but after he finished talking, it looked like he started to realise what you meant

"Someone like you could never catch someone like me, Bucky" you said, looking down at your lap

"Oh, I think I could" he said, glancing back up at the stars

"You couldn't- you're not strong enough" you whispered, but he could still hear you

"It doesn't matter if I'm not strong enough. I'd try my best to catch you, even if that means I get hurt. I'll always be here to catch you when you fall" he replied, looking back at you

"You couldn't" you said again, making him sigh and hook his finger under your chin, lifting your head back up to look at him

"Y/N, I've been ready to catch you for so long, but if I can't catch you, then I'll fall with you" he said sincerely with a smile

"W-What?" You asked, not thinking you heard him correctly

Because he was sat so close to you, it made it easier for him to place his warm, normal hand on your cheek "I've fallen for you" you both said at the same time, the pair of you finally accepting your own feelings

With that finally off both of your chests, you both finished falling and were caught deep within each other's hearts, where neither of you would ever let go of the other

His smile then grew, and you mirrored it, as he rubbed your cheek with his thumb, making you place your own over it as you held his hand from behind

The pair of you turned your entire bodies to face the other, and Bucky rested your foreheads together, as you both closed your eyes before he whispered

"I told you I'd catch you"
