88. You're Not So Bad

I didn't really know how to end this one- hope it's okay :)

This was your least favourite part of your day- finding out which Avenger you would be forced to do a mission with

You looked around the room at everyone, making awkward eye contact with some people fire averting your gaze back to the Captain of the team

"Natasha, you'll be with Clint" he said, already listing the pairs

"Scott will be with you, Sam" he continued, nodding at the birdman

You started to rule out people that have already been paired up and people that you knew were obviously going to be

Once it got down to only a few of you left, you started to panic, because it was just you, Stephen, Wanda and Bucky left

You didn't want to be paired with Stephen, because quite frankly, he scared you and you didn't want to be paired with Bucky, because... Well, you didn't really know why

It was just something about him that made you feel... Off

You didn't know if it was because of his metal arm, his inability to say over like 10 words a day, or the fact that he intimidated you a lot

Anyways, Steve finally said your name, and you hoped to hell that he was about to call Wanda's name, but when he finished his sentence, your heart sank into your stomach

"Y/N, you're gonna be with Bucky"

When he heard his own name, the man of few words glanced at you before looking away quickly when he saw you looking back at him with a sigh

He nodded in response to Steve to say that he understood before starting to play with a pen

You couldn't help but think that he looked nervous to be paired with you, but surely he couldn't be intimidated by you... Right?

For the rest of the mission briefing, you thought about how you knew that he didn't like you, for reasons unknown to you, but you thought he would've told Steve that he wanted to do the mission with someone else rather than deal with you

It's fair to say that the actual mission was the most awkward thing you've ever done in your life- he wouldn't communicate with you in any way, and it was like he was ignoring your existence

You had tried to speak to him several times, but he just wouldn't reply, like he was too focused on the mission to speak to you

Of course, as time went on, you got more and more annoyed and frustrated with him, so you decided to force him to look at you

There was a group of 5 guys all waiting for the pair of you

Apparently, Bucky hadn't seen them because he's blind or something, so you had to deal with them

You shoved past Bucky, already gaining his attention and making him watch you as you walked forward quickly

He lowered his guard as he watched you kick all of the guys' asses - he had never seen you in action before and he regretted that a lot

You let them make the first move, so a guy went to punch you in the face, which you dodged and grabbed his arm. You then proceeded to grab the back of his suit and toss him over your shoulder, landing head first

Bucky's eyes widened and his lips parted slightly as his eyebrows raised

You went up to another guy and did Natasha's signature move to him, where you span around with your legs around his neck- you know the one I'm on about

Once you had got him to the ground, you punched him so he was unconscious before swiping your leg around a different guy's legs to make him fall backwards

You somehow managed to get up before he fell down, so you grabbed his head and plunged it downwards onto your knee so that there was absolutely no chance of him getting back up

It was only them that you realised that the 4th guy had a gun- apparently, he was too in shock to fire at you but you weren't complaining

So, you did the logical thing. You disarmed him by kicking the gun up out of his hand, catching it, cocking the gun, and firing at the two remaining guys, making them go down immediately

But, the second guy had stood back up, as you had only knocked him out previously

This wasn't a problem for you, though - you just shot the guy lmao

You threw the gun to the ground and turned back to the watching super soldier

"Enjoy the show, Barnes?" You said with a cocky smirk, again trying to communicate with him

It surprised you a lot when you heard him say "Hell yeah, I did"

It was weird seeing his mouth move from a distance away, but hearing his voice right in your ear

"Oh, so you're talking to me now?" You said, walking back towards him

"I think I kinda have to after that- you certainly know what you're doing" he said, doing the same as you and waling forward

"Why would I be an Avenger if I didn't know what I was doing?" You laughed, happy to finally be talking to him

The two of you met in the middle of the walk and he smiled "Sorry for being annoying, well... All the time"

This made you nod and say "So can we do the rest of this mission together?"

When he nodded, you smiled back at him, ready to continue your job

As the mission progressed, you and Bucky figured out how to work with one another- you learned how he fought and he learned how you fought

It was strange, but Bucky went from not liking you, to feeling a little butterfly in his tummy when he looked at you kicking ass

He had just started to be your friend and he was already like this, which confused him a lot

He tried to not let his weird feelings get in the way of the job the two of you had to do, and tried to push them to the back of his mind

This was increasingly difficult though, as with every enemy you managed to take out, they would get more prominent

He almost told himself out loud to grow up, but he knew that'd attract your attention and you were too busy being a badass

He couldn't help but watch as you owned literally everyone's ass with ease - he wondered why he was even there to begin with

Being too busy, you didn't notice the way he was looking at you

It was like he was in love with you- wait... How can he be in love with you? A few hours ago, he didn't even like you

Thoughts like this swam through his mind as he went through the mission

At the very end of your mission, you went up to him and smiled

His stomach gained more butterflies, but he denied the fact that he loved you, as he thought it was ridiculous

You put your hand on his shoulder and noticed how he tensed up

He had changed, and you were glad that he was speaking to you now

You stood on your tip toes, and leaned into him, placing a gentle kiss on his cheek, putting your other hand on his opposite one

"You're not so bad" you said to him before walking away, leaving him there speechless

You couldn't help but feel like there was a hint of something in his eyes, but you only got a brief look, so you didn't manage to see for certain what it was

When you walked away, Bucky wanted more than ever to grab your wrist and pull you back to kiss you, like in the films, but he had to control himself

The only thing he did was turn red and think:

I am in love
