nishinoya and you were childhood friends,
always playing with each other in the sandbox and climbing trees like monkeys. both of your parents were extremely close which lead to you two to become very close. additionally, your house was right next to his, so every time your parents were out working, you would go over to his and play with him until your mom or dad came over to pick you up.

the friendship bond between the both of you were closer than anything else. you would always tell him your hidden secrets and he would tell you his. you guys even exchanged friendship bracelets.

both of you have even slept in the same bed and bathed in the same bath tub when both of you guys were little. he seemed like a brother to you, and you seemed like a sister to him.

it was supposed to be like that.

but, as you guys got older, you started developing feelings for your childhood friend.

every time he would compliment you, a faint blush would appear on the side of your cheeks as you quietly muttered a small thank you. every time he would drink the same straw out of yours, your whole entire face would turn bright red. every time he would randomly run up to you and hug you, butterflies would flutter around in your stomach as he would laugh out loud vociferously.

everyone at school knew both of you were best friends. you guys would eat lunch together, walk to and from school together and go to each other's sport meets. there was never a moment where neither of you were never together, unless it was at practice or during a lecture.

but as his best friend, there were also times when you wished you weren't as close to him. he told all of his secrets and gossips with you, but you kept one single secret hidden from him: the fact that you liked him.

whenever he would blabber on about kiyoko-san, you couldn't help but feel a bit hurt and solemn as jealousy boiled inside of you.

as his best friend, wasn't your job to be proud of him and support him?

you wanted to. you wanted him to have a love-life and you wanted him to have the most wonderful time in his high school years, but sometimes, you couldn't help but wish it was you that he liked. you couldn't help but wish it was you that he wouldn't stop talking about. you couldn't help but wish it was you that would leave him breathless whenever you talked to him.

but you knew, it wasn't going to be you.

no matter how hard you tried. you would always look like a little sister to him. you would always look like a childhood best friend to him. and if he were to introduce you his girlfriend, you would have to put on a bright smile and support him as his childhood best friend and mask your feelings away. because, at least you were able to talk and laugh with him.

and that was all it mattered.

no matter how much it hurt, you were fine masking if away, just for the sake of your childhood best friend. because it made your life brighten up by simply seeing him smile and laugh.

it didn't matter if it wasn't you that was next to him, as long as he was smiling, because that was what it meant to be his childhood friend: supportive and loyal.
