au ; a student was injured in karasuno high and you, as a detective, went there to investigate who targeted the student.
as the youngest and most skilled detective, the captain always assigned you to take most cases especially murder ones. as an amateur, you learned more than the skilled ones and you leveled up than the pros in the precinct.
"hello, i'm detective (surname)."
"ah, you're the cop i talked to yesterday," the principal stood up from her chair and shook your hand. "i'm (teacher's name) and i'm the principal of karasuno high."
"i was told there was a murder case in the school area." you sat down.
the principal followed. "our volleyball boys' team reported it. it's not entirely a murder case, though. but someone attempted to kill one of our boys in volleyball and he got injured. his name is hinata shouyou and he's a first-year. him and his friend, kageyama-kun, were closing the gym when someone trespassed the school grounds and stabbed him in the stomach. he managed to stay awake until he reached the hospital. he's in critical condition now."
you wrote it down. "okay. i need to speak with the police."
"sure. they're at the crime scene."

"detective (surname)," the chief greeted you and bowed. "i'm chief (chief's name), from miyagi's police department."
"chief (chief's name)," you greeted back, nodding your head as respect. "any sexual assault on the victim?" was the first thing you asked.
"no. as soon as he was stabbed, the unsub ran off leaving kageyama-kun to call for help. no one was around so he carried hinata-kun to the hospital." he informed, shaking his head at the scenario before him. "there's so much blood."
"where is this kageyama boy?"
"he's with the other officers, detective. he's a bit shaken up. nearly lost his friend." he said solemnly.
"other than kageyama, does hinata have other friends?"
"he's friends with all his teammates. they're all in questioning, except one."
raising an eyebrow, you got ready to write down anything related to hinata's unsub. hinata always found arguing with his teammate named tsukishima kei, a middle blocker who has a smug attitude and considered rude to the ones younger than him. according from kageyama, tsukishima is not the type to stab someone and trespass the school for no reason but you told the chief you needed to speak with tsukishima after getting a full profile on him. the chief led you to tsukishima's class and you thanked him before eyeing for a blonde hair. once you spotted a spectacled boy with his headphones on staring out the window, you walked over to the boy and knocked on his desk, alerting him you were there.
"tsukishima kei? i'm detective (surname)," you showed him your badge while he removed his headphones, eyeing your badge intently. "i need to ask you a few questions about your friend, hinata shouyou."
the latter scoffed, resting himself on his chair. "he's not my friend; just a teammate. what's it about now?"
"you didn't know? he got stabbed last night," tsukishima's eyes widened, really surprised by the news being told. "right now, he's in critical condition. he may or may not make it. i'm here because i'm looking for the one who did this to him."
as if he knew, he pointed at himself. "you think i did it? i wasn't in school grounds after 9PM. you can ask yamaguchi."
you wrote down, "yamaguchi... a teammate of yours or perhaps a friend this time?"
he blushed, "f-friend... since we were children."
you bobbed your head. "i was told you and hinata were arguing last week because you 'discouraged' him during practice. he got upset and attacked you. you must be really pissed off."
"i have an alibi." he insisted, more emotions in it this time.
"you can buy an alibi," you pushed. "yamaguchi follows you around like a lost puppy wanting to find an owner who'd keep him. you let him and he'd do anything for you. he could've covered for you and you stabbed hinata."
his eyebrows narrowed more. "why the hell should i kill that shrimp? he may have pissed me off but i have no motive to kill the shrimp. you should go check yourself out before assuming i was in the wrong. you're insane for thinking like that."
you huffed. "you are rude, as what i've been told. fine. thank you for co-operation, tsukishima. i'll let the other cops handle you now." when you were about to leave, tsukishima heaved a sigh.
"hinata... was acting weird yesterday morning," he started, getting your attention. turning back to face him, you motioned for him to continue. "i didn't pay attention but all i could catch was 'prisoner' and 'murders'. i assumed he's talking about an escaped prisoner who murders school kids 3 years ago."
your mind wanders. there was news about school kids being attacked by a serial killer whose son had mental illness and tried to kill him but the serial killer managed to kill his son first before the son could. without asking him further, you thanked tsukishima and left the classroom as your thoughts went wild about the serial killer from 3 years ago.

it took you an hour drive back to your precinct to search for the file of a serial killer who killed children who has mental illness. you compared to hinata's condition with the children he murdered and find no connection; hinata is a normal human being with no genetic sickness. that made you curious.
'why did he stabbed hinata? unless hinata was blocking his way..'
"he killed these children by drowning them and ended it with prayers... but why is hinata different?" you thought. "unless it's a different unsub."
your phone went off and answered it, "detective (surname)."
"detective, there's a new case..." you paused what you were doing, dreading to listen what happen now. "tsukishima's friend, yamaguchi tadashi, was found poisoned in the store room. he's sent to the hospital now, in critical condition."
without responding, you hang up and gripped on your phone. "fuck, who are you and why are you doing this to these kids...?"

"where is he?"
you've never walked faster before – after accepting this case, it became more chaotic than before. especially when two victims are still alive, it was clear to you that this unsub wanted to send you and the cops a message. he wanted something out of it these boys... but what?
the chief you met earlier came up to you. "the doctors are pumping out drugs from yamaguchi's system now. to us, yamaguchi-kun's case is brutal; he was punched first then the unsub forced down multiple pills into his throat and choked. a classmate found him paled and called for help. we were just leaving when she called for us..."
"he didn't swallow them, after all... smart."
"did you found out who the unsub is?"
"no, but tsukishima-kun told me about hinata talking about an escaped prisoner who killed children with mental illness. hinata got spooked and before he knew it, he's the victim..."
"yamaguchi-kun too," he added. "unfortunately, no one saw what really happened. whoever it was, he has access to the school building."
"it can be anyone; student, security guard, teachers, gardeners..."
the chief eyed you when you stopped talking. "do you think it is one of the school workers here?"
without answering that question, you faced the chief with a frown on your face. "get a full profile on all teachers and people who works in this school. no one is allowed to exit the grounds."

the atmosphere in the hospital was intense – at the waiting area, there are families and children probably waiting for their loved ones to get better while praying to God for a miracle. among those people who waited are hinata and yamaguchi's volleyball teammates. each of them have different expressions on their faces but it all mixed with worry. with a temper, kageyama could not sit still and paced the room, rubbing his back head numerous times. there were two girls sitting at the corner, one blonde girl was dozing off while the older one was reading to distract herself. the captain, known as sawamura daichi, was rubbing his silver-head friend as he mumbles things you can't make out of. the only thing you could do was watch them. as for tsukishima, he was in his own world. he was staring at nothing but in his head was filled with something to say. he knows yamaguchi can make it so why does he feel so much regret? he regretted leaving yamaguchi alone just to use the bathroom. he leaned forward and masked his face with his hands.
"you think hinata can make it?" suga asked daichi.
daichi rubbed his friend's back, the tension on his palm deepened. "he's an energetic ginger-haired furball of sunshine, suga. i know he's going to make it; he can make it."
tanaka groaned loudly. "ahh, this is nerve-wrecking! if i ever find whoever did this to hinata and yamaguchi, i'll—"
"you'll what, exactly?"
the team turned to you, tanaka's fists relaxed. "what exactly would you do, tanaka-kun? beat him? take him down, what? what could you do? we're talking about a serial killer who's taken down high schoolers and you think it's easy to take him down?"
daichi stood up. "i-i'm sorry about tanaka, detective. he's just upset but so do we. we need to know who did this to them. hinata and yamaguchi are dearest to us; they're family."
you softened. "all i know is that this serial killer have access to your school so... whoever did this, didn't want hinata and yamaguchi to know who they are."
suga joined you two, his expression angered. "so, hinata and yamaguchi saw their faces... what if they remembered who they are?"
"then the serial killer will escape. but i informed all the polices to not allow anyone to exit the school grounds. i suspected the serial killer is in your school right now waiting to kill."
"w-what should we do?"
"the other detectives will keep an eye on your team while i go back to karasuno for more information. if anything happens, call me."

everything was going haywire when you arrived karasuno. the polices were chasing someone and whoever this person is is really fast. you followed the shooting sounds and went the other direction where it came from. turning to your left, the unsub was seen running towards the gym.
"freeze!" you shouted but the unsub opened the gym door and locked it. you cursed under your breath and searched for another way to get in. assuming the unsub might jump out of the gym windows, you ran there and found them coming out. you hid and get ready your gun. the unsub got out of the window and landed on the ground on their butt. "don't move!" you surprised the unsub and it froze, their head down. you saw they don't have any weapon with them and you quickly remove their hoods, to reveal...
"michimiya yui."
yui sniffed and raised her hands. "i-i had to do it... hinata took daichi away from me and that-that yamaguchi saw the whole thing! h-he saw my knife an-and—"
"michimiya yui, you're under arrest for attempting murder," you handcuffed the girl. "anything you say will be use in court......"
Extended Ending
after telling the boys who the unsub is, daichi was the most disappointed. "s-she's my friend. how could she do this?"
"it's not your fault, sawamura-kun. she has mental problems for 2 months. she didn't say anything to you, did she?"
"n-no..." he paused to sniff. "no wonder she quits volleyball..."
hinata made it, so does yamaguchi. because of his injury, both boys aren't allowed to play for 2 weeks, a month for hinata since his wounds are deep.
"noooooooo!!!! does that mean i can't play anymore?!"
kageyama bonked his head. "TO RECOVER, YOU DUMBASS!"
"i miss this," suga watched the scene in awe. "i'm glad everything turned out great in the end..."
"not to sound rude, sugawara-san," tsukishima started. "but for a second there you sounded like a mom..."
everyone paused.
"what."
