Stiles drove me to the game, but I was two hours early since he had to be there early to get dressed and warm up. The sky was getting dark, and I was sitting alone on the field. One thing they don't tell you is just how nerve-wracking an empty grass field can be all alone. To the normal human, maybe. But for me, I was fine being alone.

Thirty minutes before the game, I listened in to find Stiles' voice. He was talking to Scott.

"Just try not to worry too much while you're out there, okay? Or get too angry," he said after sighing.

"I got it." Scott replied.

"Or stressed."

"I got it," Scott answered.

"Don't think about Allison being in the stands. Or that her father's trying to kill you." Stiles' voice got increasingly panicked. "Or that Derek's trying to kill you. Or the girl he killed. Or that you might kill someone. If a hunter doesn't kill you fir-. I'm sorry. I'll stop. Good luck."

"Jesus Christ, Stiles, you suck so much," I giggled to myself, focusing back on the story I was reading.

The people that filled the stands screamed as the lacrosse team came out, joined by another lacrosse team in green and white. I had moved to sit with Allison and her dad, so I could do damage control if need be. Allison introduced us, and he smiled at me, shaking my hand. I smiled back, suddenly worried my fangs would pop out for no reason. They didn't, thank god.

As Scott was walking with Stiles to the bench, Lydia pulled Scott to her by his jersey. "Scott. I just want you to remember for tonight." Stiles gaped at them, then sat on the bench with a huff.

Scott looked down at her hand gripping his shirt and moved his head back to get as far away from her lips as possible. "Uh... Winning isn't everything?"

She chuckled and released him, wiping off his jersey. "Nobody likes a loser." She patted his chest then walked up the stands, squeezing her little butt between me and Allison and setting a poster down. She smiled at me, but it was a genuine (well, for her) smile, so I smiled back.

When I looked back out to the field, I scanned over each jersey to find my Stiles. I mean, to find Stiles. Number 24, by the way. Before I could find him, my eyes locked with Jackson, who was already watching me. He smirked and I gulped. It was like he could hear that because his smirk got wider. I looked over to Lydia, somehow feeling like this was something next to cheating, but she hadn't noticed.

I looked back at Jackson and he winked at me, then the whistle blew and he turned to go onto the field. No. I did not want Jackson to kiss me.

Feeling somewhat guilty for a reason I couldn't explain, I moved to sit with Melissa McCall, who'd taken off from nursing at the hospital to watch her son play his first game.

"Hey Ms. McCall," I said as I sat down.

"Melissa, Y/N, you know that." She smiled at me. Sheriff Stilinski came over and sat down on the other side of Melissa.

"Think Stiles will see any action tonight?" Sheriff asked.

My mouth let out a breathy laugh before I could stop it. "I think he'll see quite a bit of action." If Scott loses his cool.

The whistle blew and the game started. Every time Scott was ready, his teammates would choose to toss the ball to another player.

"Come on! Scott's wide open!" I yelled with frustration. I felt the judge-y yet amused looks from Melissa and Sheriff and tried to pretend I didn't notice it. The one with the ball got tackled, and the ball rolled onto the grass. Scott ran for the ball, and so did Jackson. What the hell?

Jackson pushed Scott to the ground and picked up the ball.

"What the heck?!" I grumbled. Jackson made the goal, but it was soured by the taste of an egotistical ass. For me anyway. The crowd cheered because, hey, we got a point.

Jackson grinned as he high-fived some teammates, and I scowled at him, though he didn't know I was looking at him. He looked over to the crowd to where Lydia was sitting and frowned.

I looked over, too, but because Scott was also frowning. Lydia was screaming while she and Allison held up a sign that said "We luv u Jackson!' with a little heart on it. I winced. Ouch, that can't feel good. At least Allison didn't seem too thrilled to be doing it. That must've made him feel a little better.

I looked back to Scott and he was scowling. Then my eyes locked with Jackson's again, and this time he was smiling, but it was at me.

"No, no, no," I grumbled under my breath.

"Y/N, who's that boy looking at you? Your boyfriend?" Melissa asked.

"God, no. He's... He's... Well, he's Jackson, and he's a jerk," I replied.

"Well, Jackson seems to like you."

"Tell me about it," I said as Jackson licked his lip and bit it, still staring at me. The whistle blew, causing him to go back to the game. That whistle was becoming my savior.

All the players on the Beacon Hills team circled up, but not Scott. I listened in suspiciously.

"Who's the captain, you or me?" Jackson seethed.

"Jackson, come on, dude. I just want to win," Danny, the gay one on the team that everyone loved, replied.

"We will win."

"But-."

"What did I say? Huh? What... Did... I say?" Jackson enunciated.

Danny sighed in annoyance. "Don't pass to McCall." Jackson hit his chest in an 'attaboy' way and the group split, leaving Scott standing on the other side watching them. He must've heard, too.

"This isn't gunna be good," I whispered.

"What?" Melissa asked.

"Oh, uh, nothing. I just have a bad feeling, is all."

The game continued, but Scott had a newfound sense of purpose. Which means he had a newfound sense of anger. Meaning another reason to change on the field and kill someone. Not that I could share my worries with anyone I sat with. Sometimes I really wish Coach would let me sit with Stiles. I mean, he never played anyway.

I heard Scott's low growls from where I sat, and I whispered, "Control, Scott. Control yourself." I didn't know if he heard me because my hands were in front of my mouth as I bit on my thumb nervously, but I hoped he had.

I must not have been the only person that heard his growls because, on the field as they set up for another play, a few of the team members on each team backed away from him slowly.

The score was 3 to 5, visitors winning. I felt like I was about to gnaw off my thumbnail as I waited for the whistle to blow.

Lydia and Allison held up the flipside of the poster, and it read 'Jackson is #1!'. I wanted to rip the poster in half, but I settled for a menacing scowl.

As the ball was tossed up by a player, Scott leapt for it, using a player on the other team's face as a catapult. He hit the ground running for the goal. I hid my face in my hands, watching the play unfold through my fingers.

Every person who tried to block him was dodged smoothly. Melissa jumped up and down excitedly, happy Scott finally had the ball. Scott threw the ball and it flew into the net. Magically, he did that without wolfing out. I jumped up with Melissa.

"Whooo! You go Scott!" I yelled, clapping my hands.

Coach went down the side the field shouting, "Pass to McCall!" Stiles was right behind him repeating every word and bouncing wildly. Jackson's mouth pulled into an angry scowl as he first noticed Coach, then me cheering my head off for Scott.

The next play began and the other team got the ball. As number 13 was about to make a run for the goal, he stopped in front of Scott. I heard Scott growl and 13 tossed him the ball, then stepped out of his way as Scott ran by him.

"Did he just pass Scott the ball?" Sheriff asked.

"Um... Yeah, I think he did," I replied, trying to sound like I had no idea why. I think I managed. My heart was racing so fast, I could feel little tingles in my fingers. I had no idea what to do with my hands, though I felt like they needed to be busy. My entire body felt jittery and restless.

Scott threw the ball into the goal, and the goalie caught it. Only he didn't because the ball burst straight through the net on the stick and into the goal. Everyone cheered, but I couldn't anymore. Scott had wolfed out, and I needed to get him out of there or something.

"Wha..." Melissa laughed with surprise, looking at me. I grinned, but I think it may have been a bit much because she furrowed her eyebrows and smiled out at the field.

The umpire went to yell at Coach, and Coach argued, saying the ball was in the net. Which Stiles repeated.

Scott caught the ball again and ran. At first, the players ran toward him, then they stopped and backed up. Scott stopped, too, his back facing the audience. He looked at the two guys stupid enough to stand between him and the goal and growled.

"Scott, don't do it. Control!" I said loudly, earning odd looks from Melissa and Sheriff. The players surrounded Scott in all directions, and he growled at them. I looked to make sure Allison's dad couldn't hear. Thankfully, it seemed like he couldn't. But he was slightly suspicious.

There were 18 seconds left on the clock and we were in the last quarter. Melissa crossed her fingers at her mouth, murmuring 'come on' under her breath.

Allison muttered, "You can do it, Scott." He heard. I knew because he angled his ear toward her.

Six seconds left, and I wanted to scream, "Just shoot already, dang it!" but I didn't want to ruin his Allison moment, so instead I just groaned.

All the players around him were nervously teetering on their feet as they decided to close in on him. Bad idea. Never try to trap a wolf, especially a werewolf. They all ran at Scott and he threw the ball. It flew into the net as the goalie fell to the ground to get out of the way.

I was somewhere between screaming with joy and screaming with fear as I ran onto the field to Scott. Everyone from the stands swarmed onto the field with me.

Jackson stepped in front of me, smirking. His helmet was off and his hair was damp and stringy with sweat. Not gunna lie, he smelled amazing.

"Hey," he said smoothly.

"Yeah, not right now." I tried to run past him as Scott ran towards the locker rooms, but Jackson stepped in front of me, making me bump into him.

"Right now." He smiled, and I'm sure he thought that reply was endearing, but right now what I wanted to do was rip his face off so I could help Scott.

"Jackson, get out of my way," I warned, and he just smiled wider.

"I saw you." When I raised my eyebrows in an 'elaborate please' way, he said, "In the hospital when I was kissing Lydia."

I scoffed and crossed my arms," Yeah, you and the entire building. What the hell was that, anyway? What kind of kinky crap are you into?"

"Oh, I could show you what I'm into," he replied, putting his gloved hand on my waist. His lips were near mine, and my breaths came out in white smoke of nerves, unable to move away. Everything in my body was buzzing.

"Not interested," I said sternly.

"Really? Because you're staring at my lips," he said. His lips spread into a smile, revealing his straight, white teeth. I gulped, and as he leaned in, I pushed him back. He laughed as he took in my shaking body.

"There you are," Lydia said and dragged his lips to hers for a winning make-out session. Again, his eyes stayed on mine as he removed his gloves, kissing her seductively. His bare hands slid up down her waist, then up the back of her thighs as he squeezed her butt.

Why was I watching this? Why was he watching me? Why was he watching me watching him? I came to my senses and whizzed around, running to Stiles, who was waiting on the bench.

"Wait here. I'm gunna go change," he said, smiling at me and walking away.

"Wait, I don-." But he was already out of ear shot. "Want to be alone..." I turned around. The crowd on the field had thinned to almost nothing. Jackson and Lydia were gone, possibly having sex in a broom closet. I sighed with relief. No one to torment me.

Laughing at myself, I sat on the bench and leaned my forehead onto my palms. "What am I doing?"

"Good question." I jumped up to see Derek Hale standing in front of me.

"Good god, do you always sneak up on people like that?!" I scolded. His hands were in the pockets of his leather jacket. He had a frown on his face, and his hair was spiked up attractively. He cocked his head at me. "Wait, how did you...? Oh, my god, did you kill everyone at the police station to get out?" Horrific images of blood and bodies filled my head.

"No." It was my turn to cock my head at him. "They let me go. Police found wolf hairs on the body, meaning-."

"Meaning they determined the killer to be animal," I sighed and hung my head. I looked up through my lashes at him. "A-are you gunna kill me? Because I'm pretty sure I can take you. Or at least give you a hell of a time trying."

He chuckled. "I didn't kill anyone. The girl they found—her name was Laura Hale. She was my sister. I buried her."

"And you're gunna kill me for desecrating her grave. Look, I get it, but-."

"I'm not going to kill you, so just relax," he said with agitation. I blinked at him, and the silence dragged on.

"Then what do you want with me?" Please say a girlfriend, please say a girlfriend, please say a girlfriend.

"You should get home. Never know what could happen at night." Derek turned and walked away. I wasn't sure whether he meant that as a threat, a warning, or advice. I had a feeling I'd find out soon enough, though.
