This is based off of the movie The Darkest Minds so if you've seen it then you'll hopefully understand! If you haven't seen the movie I definitely suggest it! And this will be a bit different from the movie so bare with me
Daniel's POV
I woke up in a bed, tear stains down my cheeks, I remembered the events from the previous week.
I walked into my parents' room because I had a bad dream. I laid down in their bed without waking them and I gently touched my mom's arm, I felt my eyes go dry and I realized something was different. I felt a shock in my hand and I instantly took it off of my mom's arm. I decided I should go back into my bedroom.
The next morning I woke up and went downstairs to my mom who was in the kitchen making breakfast.
"Hi mommy," I said as I walked into the kitchen.
"Who are you. Who are your parents sweetheart?" She asked while coming towards me.
"You're my mom, and that's daddy," I said pointing to my dad who was now also in the kitchen.
"No sweetie, we're not your parents, you must be lost," she said in a gentle voice. Tears came to my eyes and I almost started to cry.
"Mommy it's me," I pleaded.
"I'm sorry darling, but I don't know you," She said.
I snapped back into reality and noticed I was in a hospital bed, there was a man beside me with a computer.
"Am I in a hospital?" I asked.
"Not quite. You're in the camp for living children," he explained.
"The living children?" I asked.
"Yes, from the disease." I remembered how just weeks ago children started dying, and more and more kept dying until there was almost 90% of them gone, I was a lucky survivor.
"What are you doing?" I asked him as he got something prepared.
"You're an orange." He shouted. I started to run away from fright, if you're an orange then you get killed, oranges are too dangerous to adults. "Hey! Get back here!" he shouted chasing me with a needle. I fell and he almost stuck the needle into me but I grabbed his wrist and went into his mind.
"I am a green, I am a smart one," I said. I came out of the trance and he went back to his computer and put me into the program as a green. I put on the green pair of pyjamas that he gave me and went out to the rest of the kids.
*10 years later*
Over the past few weeks kids over 17 got forced to work, if we didn't they could kill us. I managed to escape when I knew all of the guards were on their break, they usually don't do that but they do it randomly once a month so we can't keep track, but I'm above most people in how smart I am so I always knew when they would be gone. I ran and ran and ran until I found another group of kids in the woods around a campfire. They all stared at me in fright and I gave them the same look. I started backing up.
"Hey, wait," a boy with dyed blonde hair said. I shook my head and turned around and started walking the other way until I felt someone grab my wrist. "Hey, it's ok, we won't hurt you." I turned around to face the blonde haired boy again and he gave me a welcoming smile.
"W-who are you?" I asked.
"I'm Corbyn, and that's Zach, Jonah, and Jack," he said pointing to three other boys who don't look much older than me. "Come sit down."
I followed Corbyn back to the campfire and I sat on a log beside him.
"What's your name?" Jonah asked.
"D-Daniel," I said shyly.
"How can we know to trust him?" Jack whispered to Zach, but I heard.
"Don't worry, I'm a green, I'm not dangerous," I lied.
"Oh, um, ok," Jack said then faced the fire again.
"Why are you guys out here?" I asked.
"Same reason as you, trying to escape that hell hole," Zach answered.
"Where do you guys stay?" I asked.
"At a secret camp with about 100 children from all across America," Corbyn answered.
"Where is it?" I asked.
"About 10 minutes away," Jonah replied. "We were actually just about to head back, Want to come with us?"
"Uh, sure," I said unsure of what to do.
"Don't worry, you can trust us," Corbyn whispered as we all started walking towards their van. We all got in and Jonah started driving.
"So tell us something about you," Zach said.
"There's not much to me," I said.
"There has to be something, maybe your age?"
"I'm 19," I said. "How old are you guys?"
"Well I'm 17, Jack's 19, Jonah's 20, and Corbyn is also 19," Zach explained.
"Cool," I said.
After about 10 minutes we pulled up to a camp and they drove into it. We got out of the van and they lead me to a tent where there were 4 beds.
"Come with me, I'll get you a bed," Corbyn said. I followed Corbyn and we went into a large building and he grabbed a bed kit and we brought it back to our tent where Corbyn and I set it up. The rest of the boys went to get some food. "So, Daniel. Tell me something about you, it can be anything, I just want to know you more," Corbyn said.
"I have two brothers and a sister," I said.
"Where are they?" Corbyn asked.
"Two of them are at the camp and one of them is with my parents because they're an adult," I explained.
"Do you miss them?"
"Who?" I asked.
"Your parents," Corbyn said.
"Yeah, it's been 11 years since I've seen them. Since I've been put in that terrible camp."
"Yeah," Corbyn said. I got tears in my eyes remembering the last time I saw my parents, they didn't even remember me. "Daniel, are you ok?" Corbyn asked. I just shrugged. Corbyn came in to give me a hug but I stopped him.
"Stop, I'll hurt you," I said.
"What do you mean?" Corbyn asked.
"If you touch me I'll hurt you," I said.
"You wouldn't hurt me."
"Yes I would."
"How?"
"Because I'm an orange!" I was shocked that it came out of my mouth.
"You're an orange?" Corbyn asked.
"Yes. Last time I saw my parents they didn't even remember me, their own son. They didn't remember me because I touched them, and I somehow got into their head and I accidentally removed their memory of me," I said with more tears falling. I wiped my tears quickly so Corbyn wouldn't see them, but Corbyn did. He pulled my chin up with his finger and I tried to pull away but Corbyn smiled at me.
"You can't hurt me, I'm also an orange," Corbyn said. I smiled then hugged him tightly.
"I thought I was the only one," I said.
"Why did you lie? When you saw us you said you were a green," Corbyn said as we pulled away from the hug.
"I didn't want you guys to be scared of me," I explained.
"We wouldn't be scared of you," Corbyn said gently, looking into my eyes. "I would still love you." Corbyn's eyes went wide after saying that. "I'm so sorry I didn't mean to say that." His head went into his hands and he avoided all eye contact of me.
"Corbyn," I said quietly. He didn't look at me. "Corbyn, look at me," I instructed. Corbyn looked up at me and I smiled at him. "I love you too," I said. I attached our lips and held onto his neck softly with one hand and he waist with the other, pulling him even closer.
After about a minute or so someone walked in.
"Get a room," Jonah laughed. Corbyn and I pulled away and blushed. "You guys are cute together, I like it."
A/N ok so this turned into a flop so that's why I left it at a weird spot but I tried my best🤷🏼♀️😂
