"i'll see you later, kou," you mumbled into the phone. you were calling your boyfriend, sugawara koushi, who was at work. "i love you."
you heard a small giggle from the other line. "i love you too."
a smile left your lips when he hung up. you were planning on surprising your boyfriend when he came home. he had been staying up late, working on projects and attending meetings. in order to help him relax, you were making his favorite dinner and preparing a warm bath.
having sugawara as your boyfriend was the most wonderful thing. he would shower you with kisses and cuddles. he loved making food for you and feeding you. he loved watching you sleep and giving you forehead kisses before leaving for work. he loved showering you with small gifts on random occasions.
you didn't know when or how you first fell in love with him. but before you knew it, you had fallen head over heels for him. of course there were fights and arguments you had with him, but he always apologized to you, whether it was your fault or not. after every argument, you would fall asleep in his arms and he would not let you go until one of you had to go pee.
you heard the door open while you were setting the table. a large smile crept up your face when you saw your boyfriend walk into the house.
"welcome home," you greeted, walking over to him.
"i'm back, love," he greeted back, giving you a tight hug around your waist.
"how was work?" you asked. he rested his head on your shoulder and sniffed your hair.
"it was tiring," he mumbled, squeezing you tighter.
"i'm sorry, baby," you said as you ruffled his hair softly. "do you want to take a bath? i prepared one for you. maybe you'll feel better after taking one."
"for me?" sugawara asked.
"of course, for you." you smiled and nodded. he gave you a tender kiss on your forehead.
"thank you, love."

"let's go on a date," sugawara said as he nuzzled into your neck. the two of you were lying on the bed. your back was pressed against his chest and his arms were wrapped around your waist. sugawara didn't have work today, so he wanted to spend the whole day with you.
you giggled. "of course, where do you want to go?" you asked.
"you can choose. where do you want to go?" sugawara asked as he gave you a small kiss on your neck.
an airy laugh left your lips. "that tickles, kou," you giggled. sugawara trailed more kisses down your neck, making you giggle. you turned around to face sugawara, who stopped kissing you and held you dearly.
a playful smile grinned up your face as you tickled his sides. a loud laugh left his lips as you sat on top of him and gave him kisses down his neck. he squeezed you tightly and rubbed your back.
"i want to go to the park," you said as you rested your head on his chest.
"the park?"
"mhm, i want to take a walk around the park with coffee in our hands."
"okay, anything for you," he said, giving you a light peck on your cheek.

"kou!!" you yelled. sugawara turned around to see you running up to him.
"don't run! you're going to fall!" sugawara exclaimed. you tripped on a rock at the same time he said that and fell on your face.
sugawara couldn't help but slightly laugh as he ran up to you. he kneeled and pulled you up. "i told you to be careful, didn't i?" sugawara said as he picked you up and carried you on his back.
"i was just excited to see you," you mumbled as you wrapped your arms around his neck.
"but now, you have a scraped knee," sugawara said. you softly smiled and kissed his cheek.
"thank you for always taking care of me," you said as you rested your chin on top of his head. his cheeks flushed red as he piggybacked you home.
"just be careful next time, okay?"
"i will," you said giggling. "i love you," you said as you wrapped your arms tighter around him.
"i love you too."

sugawara smiled as he bought a bouquet of red roses along with a ring for your fifth year anniversary with him. he couldn't wait to see your smiling face when he got home. he couldn't wait to see you admiring the roses. he couldn't wait until he put the ring on your ring finger.
he walked out of the store with a large smile and started walking home. he just couldn't wait to surprise you and see your adorable reactions. a chuckle left his lips just by thinking about you.
as he walked across the road, he held the bouquet close to him. just as he was about to reach the other side of the road, bright lights shined on him. when he slowly craned his neck, he heard a car screeching and tires skidding across the pavement. the bright car lights made him squint as he clutched tightly onto the bouquet of roses and the box with your ring in it.
as the car got closer to him, images of your smiling and laughing face appeared in his mind. a huge blow hit him and the last thing he saw the shattered windows cascading down on him until everything went black.
you were patiently waiting for sugawara, who was supposed to be home a couple hours ago. you had prepared a fancy dinner for him and had even bought him a gift for your guys' fifth year anniversary.
a large smile left your lips when your phone started ringing. thinking it was your boyfriend you answered it.
"kou?"
"hello, is this y/n?" a random voice asked from the other line. you looked at the caller ID and raised your eyebrows in confusion.
"um, yes it is. may i ask who's calling?"
"are you the significant other of sugawara koushi?"
". . .yes, i am."
there was silence on the other line, which made you even more nervous. you felt your heartbeat getting louder as you waited for their response. you clutched onto your phone when the other person cleared their throat.
"we are very sorry to say this, but sugawara koushi is in the hospital right now."
your heart dropped.
"sorry?"

when you arrived in front of your boyfriend's hospital room, you didn't have the courage to open the door. you contained yourself and took a deep sigh before you held onto the door handle. when you slowly opened the door, the scene in front of you made you numb. you took further steps until you stood in front of the hospital bed.
tears uncontrollably fell down your eyelids when you saw your boyfriend wrapped in bandages and casts. you were so grateful he was still breathing, but the whole situation made you weak and detached. you softly placed your hands on top of sugawara's and began sobbing. his face was very pale and even though he was breathing fine, his eyes remained closed.
you didn't realize a nurse entering the room until you heard your voice.
"are you y/n?" she asked. you slowly craned your neck towards her and slowly nodded. "this is a letter for you that was in his bag."
you slowly grabbed the letter from her hands. there were trails of his blood splattered on it.
"thank you," you said hoarsely. when she left the room, you gently opened the letter.

your thoughts were interrupted when you felt his hands twitch. your tears continued spilling as you clutched onto sugawara's hands tightly. you felt his fingers twitch again. you quickly ran out of the room to call the doctor. when you desperately walked into the room with a doctor, sugawara was sitting up looking out the window.
"kou!" you exclaimed as you wiped your tears away, replacing them with a smile. he whipped his eyes towards you and your heart dropped. his eyes looked at you with no love or affection. you felt your hands shaking as he looked at you. goosebumps appeared on your arms as a single tear trailed down your cheek and fell onto the floor, never to be seen again.
"sorry, who are you?"
