AU Prompt: Both persons have a clock on their wrists that counts down until the day they meet their soul mate. Prompt found online and seems to be pretty popular. Enjoy.
Partier(par·tier). A noun. The definition of a partier is someone who parties all the time. Someone who enjoys social gatherings for entertainment, someone like you.
You loved to go out and have fun, to be with friends and enjoy some drinks whenever you had the chance because there is only two days in the weekend so why not enjoy it? You couldn't stand being stuck inside, even when you were sick you'd find a reason to go out and have a drink. Now, as an adult who can make her own decisions, you just go out because you can and don't feel the need to provide reasons.
You were putting on some eyeliner when the blue light from your wrist caught your attention, it was strange really. Some days you would forget it was there and the next it was all you could do to keep your eyes off of the damn thing. You wanted to know who he was and when you'd meet him. Would he be handsome? Sweet and funny or more sarcastic like you were? Was he doing well or was he down on his luck? You couldn't get the questions out of your head but you never let them hold you back.
Your timer read thirty years, one day, fifteen hours, seven minutes and two seconds. He certainly made you wait long enough, I mean really thirty years?! You laughed after sitting down your makeup at the absurdity of it all. You loved the idea of having a soul mate but you didn't see the reason to make it into a love story or something so fairy tail-ish. What was the point of telling little kids that someday they could find their prince charming or whatever?
"What a waste of time, trying to find someone who may not even exist!" You scoff before grabbing your phone from your dresser.
You: U Heading straight 2 the prty?
Friend: Yah, u wnt me 2 come get u?
You: Pretty plz~
Friend: Be over n 10
You: Ur the best!
You tossed your phone in your hand bag before going out into the living room of your apartment to wait for your friend. She was a great person but she droned on and on about these New Years Eve parties like she was going to find her special person at one of these?
You wouldn't be surprised if she went out just to try and find her special someone and honestly you loved to tease her about that. It wasn't like you were opposed to the idea of finding that person but you weren't really looking for them. If it happened it happened, no harm in letting fate decide your future.
The drive to the party was as expected, lots of teasing and very little serious talk. For the most part that's what your friendship with her was, a lot of teasing and picking and very little actual serious talking. Neither of you were that type of person, maybe you'd get into some serious topic but by the end of it you had both forgotten or went off on some side road of silliness.
"Here we are!" She shouted over the sounds of the streets and the music from within the place.
"Remind me later how you got us into this place!" You shouted back with a grin on your face as you flashed the guard your pass and they let the two of you through the doors.
"I'll keep it a surprised, come on!" She pulled you through the crowd, the only thing that helped you keep up with her really the place was packed full of people.
"How can I help you two lovely ladies?" The man was facing away from you both.
"Cosmopolitan for me!" Your friend shouted and you grimaced.
"That is such a sissy drink, way too sweet! I'll take a Scotch." You said over the music and he turned around to greet you both properly as he chuckled but you couldn't hear that.
"I like you, here it is girls! Enjoy!" He said as he left to go down to the other side of the bar to chat with some others who looked very drunk already.
"You didn't tell me this was a Fucking Stark party!" You shouted at your friend who was sipping on her drink and facing the crowd.
"Didn't think it was that important." She shrugged and you rolled your eyes.
"Of course it's important don't you ever watch t.v. you dope?" You drank some of your drink before nudging her slightly.
"Hey, are you even listening to me?" You asked but obviously she wasn't.
"Um, what?" You noticed the brown haired man sitting across the way looking at her and sighed, there goes the one person you cold talk to for the night.
"Go on, go talk to him I'll be fine by myself!" You gave her a nudge of encouragement which was really more like a push forwards but who's to notice?
"Friend ditch ya?" The same voice from earlier said and you shrugged.
"Nah, saved me some time to hear her complain about it. Why you working as a bartender isn't this your party?" You turned around to meet his lovely brown eyes, ones you just now really noticed.
"It is but someone has to serve the drinks, besides I wouldn't get to meet such a pretty lady if I was lost in that crowd now would I?" He said with a small smirk on his face and that was all it took for you to be hooked right in.
You two talked about everything, you told him things you had never told any stranger before but it just felt right or maybe it was the booze you were downing making it all seem that way. It didn't matter the reason all that mattered was how much you were enjoying this time with Tony, how you had never realized how fast the time flew by when talking with him.
"I really should get home." You said, you were clearly drunk but you'd done this before so it wasn't anything new.
"No, no I insist you stay! Use one of my spare rooms and you can leave in the morning, I can even have your friend driven home." He insisted and pressed until you gave in with a huff. He smiled and lead you back and away from the party.
The room smelled fresh like it had never been used before with a soft looking white bed in the center of the room. You turned to Tony, a man you had just met a few hours ago but felt like you had known him for a lifetime, to thank him. You couldn't find the words, your mind was clouded with nervousness and alcohol. You leaned up after having glanced at his lips and pressed one on them. You stepped back already feeling like you had gone too far but he didn't seem to mind.
"Goodnight and thanks for staying." He said and you nodded unable to speak or understand why he had said nothing about the kiss.
When morning came and the hangover with it you covered your head with the blanket covering your body. Everything was too loud and too bright for you right now. Then after finally waking up you remembered the night before, it was kind of blurry but it was memorable. You rubbed your face with your right hand and glanced at the counter on your wrist which, to your surprise, had stopped. You went through your memories, each one of them the night before to place where it had stopped and who you had met. The only person you could remember talking to was Tony. . .Tony?
"Shit!" You mumbled quite a few more curses as you threw the blanket from you and sat up which made the pain in your head worse. Much worse.
"Calm down, you're going to hurt yourself if you do that." Tony said from the door and you glared at him but he smiled. Well actually it was more like a smug grin then a smile.
"What are you grinning for?" You stood up and stomped over to him fully ready to smack the smug look right off of his face when he grabbed your hand with his left arm, counter visible as well. It has stopped.
"Yours too?" He asked and you didn't respond because you didn't know what to say and you were still pretty grumpy. Hangover's are not pleasant!
"Yes, you imbecile!" He laughed and before long you couldn't be mad, you didn't know why you were mad to begin with. You had let fate decide and this is what she had decided for you.
"You're cute, I like you." He said and you grumbled taking a step back from him.
"Don't act like you don't like me." His smug face, that's why you were angry.
"Don't be so smug and you still have to ask me out and take me on a date first before I agree to liking you, Stark!" You crossed your arms in defiance as if that would change the way you felt, he brought you into him and hugged you.
"This doesn't change things either, you know?" It did.
