James "Bucky" Barnes
You were forced to work with Tony today and Bucky got to work with Steve, now you were fine with working with Bruce but Tony loved to get under your skin. He always enjoyed making you mad, making you curse under your breath or threaten him like the sick sadist he was. You were enjoying your morning in bed before having to get up when you got the text from Fury.
"Why do I have to work with him?" you asked to the nothingness in your room and expected no answer but heard Bucky laugh as he emerged from the bathroom.
"Because you have the temper to handle him" he shrugged casually as he dried his hair, already dressed and ready to go now.
"But you get to hang with Steve all say, I hardly consider that fair" you mutter, now clearly pouting.
He placed a kiss on your head, "well, I'll be sure to make it up to you tonight when you get back" he said against your head making you nod.
You watched him leave before jumping in the shower, you were taking your own sweet time so you could prolong having to deal with Tony. You swore Fury did this for his own entertainment, the man really needs to get a hobby. You walked, well more like sluggishly sauntered, towards your destination. All that was getting you through this day was the thought of getting to cuddle with Bucky tonight, being in his arms always made you power through whatever shit you had to deal with. You greeted everyone with a warm and welcoming smile, everyone except Tony.
"Come on, why does he get the sweet girl smile and I get the glare!" Tony pouted while you sat in the chair beside Bruce with your arms crossed.
"Because I like him" you grumbled bitterly, hearing Bruce chuckle under his breath before clearing his throat at Tony's pouting glare.
"Are we going to get started on this stupid gun or am I here just to waste time?" you said picking up the cup of coffee you grabbed on the way in and taking a sip.
"Fine, fine. Show her what we've done so far and explain all of the aspects of the project to her" Tony waved his hands dismissively as he took a small wrench to the gun on a table across from the two of you.
After an hours worth of explaining you were finally caught back up, much to your relief because anymore and your head might as well explode. You straightened up and began going through calculations with Bruce, exchanging ideas and actually being productive unlike the genius across the room. He didn't even look busy or interested in what he was doing, he just kept glancing back at you both with a strangely familiar glimmer in his brown eyes. You knew that look.
"Whatever is going on in that head of yours better not interrupt my work." You didn't even glance up at him but you heard him grumbled something about having eyes in the back of your head.
"how'd you-" Bruce started but you raised an eyebrow at him as if to say, really? He dropped it at that because he knew Tony just as well, if not better, than anyone else around here. You were both silent, studying over some numbers when a blast of very cool air hit you before the pain actually did.
You were currently balled up on the floor convulsing and crying while Bruce and Tony panicked, great help these two.
"Th-that was not suppose to happen, oh! She is so going to kill me-" "if the convulsions don't first, Tony! Get someone" Bruce growled trying his best to comfort you. Tony rushed out muttering and talking to himself, he ran just as fast as he could to the medical bay of the Tower. By the time he returned he had a Doctor along with half of the rest of the goddamn tower with him!
"I said a doctor not the whole tower!" Bruce snapped at Tony who looked pale "they followed, I didn't ask them to come with me" he said matter-of-fact. All talking stopped when the sound of an infants cries entered all of their ears, Bucky and Steve were passing by when the cry caught their attention.
You, you were bloody livid with Tony and you were going to kill him when you had the chance! No, no you were going to do so much worse but you couldn't think properly with all of the commotion that entered your ears suddenly. You heard the words infant and morning and pieced together the rest, this made you panic, I mean who wouldn't?
"Where is she?" A familiar deep voice called out from behind the crowd, it was Bucky's as he made his way to the center of the chaos. He saw you, now a child in Bruce's arms with a muttering Tony next to the two of you and nearly flipped out. Steve's hand on his shoulder calmed him down,
"What happened, Stark?" Steve took you from Bruce's arms and you gladly held onto him while Bucky picked Tony up by the collar of his shirt.
"It was an accident, now let me down" Tony wiggled free from Bucky's grip but he didn't move from in front of him "I can't wait until she gets her hands on you."
Tony ignored the threat and by the time they exchanged words most of the people were forced out and back to business by Bruce. You reached out for Bucky when he turned back to face Steve.
"Here, she wants you to hold her" Steve handed you to Bucky and he was awkwardly holding you against his chest.
"You. . .um, you need to support her back and neck better" Bruce muttered moving you to the proper position in Bucky's arms. The soldier holding you was flushed red with embarrassment, but all of the embarrassment went out of the window when you grabbed his hand. He was not used to having to care for such a defenseless person, let alone you as said child but he wasn't about to make you stay with anyone else.
"We should get her back home" Steve whispered pulling a star-struck Bucky along with him.
"Barnes. you alright?" Steve got his attention then causing him to look up and noticed the change of scenery, you were back at your apartment.
"Yeah, I mean I've never had to watch a baby before. . .what if I accidentally hurt her, Steve?" he confided in Steve and his buddy only laughed before putting a firm, reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"You won't hurt her, now I have to get back to the Tower but call me if you need any help" Bucky nodded and watched his friend leave before realizing he was alone with a baby with no idea on what to so first. You felt bad for him but there wasn't really anything you could do. He looked down into your big eyes with your face slightly chubby and you toothless grin staring up at him and his heart melted into a puddle.
"I, um, I don't really know what you need so how about I read some stories to you?" you cooed and he took that as a yes. He took you into your room, placing you on the bed while he rummaged through some older books you kept hidden in your closet to keep out of the way. He found what he was looking for before getting into the bed and placing you on his chest. He read to you, read every story that was in the book and by the end of them you were lulled to sleep by his voice and the vibrations through his chest.
"Good idea" he placed a kiss on your head like he had before you left that morning. He placed the book on the nightstand before placing a blanket over the two of you before falling asleep as well.
When morning came and you woke up to the sound of light snoring you smiled opening your eyes to see Bucky sleeping peacefully underneath you. You kissed his chest before reaching up and cupping is face,
"Bucks?" you muttered and he mumbled before opening his eyes and letting out a relieved sigh.
"Morning" he said in his gruff morning voice "morning" you two stayed quiet for a minute before laughing.
"Well, I know what I'm doing today." You said getting up off of the bed to shower and change.
"Would you like to help me get some payback?" you grinned, a devilish grin that always made him grin back "of course."
