You stand by the docks with Tina for a while, staring out at the water.
"Are you sure you're okay?" you ask her.
She nods. "Yeah. I'm fine. Just thinking."
"Oh. Well, whenever you're ready to leave, then."
As she looks out at the water, you know what she's thinking about. It's who she's thinking about, really, and you know who it is.
It was quite the adventure when Newt Scamander showed up in New York. You never thought you would be helping to put a dark wizard like Gellert Grindlewald in prison. You know that Tina fell for Newt in the process, but you've never brought it up, even though you want to know. You want to know whether or not she actually loves him so you'll know what to do next.
"I'm ready to go," she says, pulling you out of your thoughts. "I'm sorry to keep us here for so long."
"It's all right," you reply as the two of you begin to walk away. "So, did you have any good thoughts? I hope so, given how long we were there for."
"Yes, I guess I did. I was thinking back on Newt's visit."
"Ah. That was quite the adventure. Have you heard from him since he left?"
"No, he hasn't written. I hope he will. And he told me that he would send me a copy of his book when it's finished."
She hasn't heard from him since then, not at all. True, it hasn't been very long since he left, so that doesn't mean he won't write. But what if he doesn't? What if Tina doesn't hear from him again?"
"I take it you two got very close?" you ask her.
She nods. "I guess we did. He's a great man and a great wizard. He's the type that will be famous for something good someday."
You really don't know how to continue this conversation. You stop walking and ask, "Do you love him?"
She looks back at you. "I might. I don't know. I just...hope he writes to me. Why? You're not in love with him too, are you?"
You shake your head. "Definitely not. I don't think he's my type."
"If you say so. Come on, it'll be dark soon."
You speed up your step to catch up with her down the street. You don't know how long you're going to let yourself keep this up, to keep everything you feel for her hidden. But at least for now, it seems like the best thing.
