"After you, my dear.."

Kevin opened the door to the bar for me, letting me in first.

"Thank you.. gosh, I keep forgetting how loud it is in here."

"Yeah.. do you want to go somewhere else? It's okay if you do."

"I don't. I like this place."

"Alright.. so, You go sit, I'll go get us drinks.."

"No. I want to buy you a drink."

"..Alright. Go ahead. I'll be at the table over here"

I nodded and headed off to the bar, standing there in silence until the bartender noticed I was there. I didn't want to say something and interrupt him if he was busy. I ordered us both red wine, taking it back to the table. I handed Kevin his glass.

"...Is this wine?"

"Yeah! I forgot what you used to order, and I think you should try this!"

"Alright.. I haven't had wine in ages, I'm not sure if I even like it."

"You will"

"I'm a little nervous..." he giggled "it's been a long time.."

He took a sip, a puzzled look on his face, inquiring him to take another sip.

"What do you think?"

"..it's good." He nodded.

"It is! I'll get you whatever drink it is you like, after this. I just wanted you to try it."

"I'm not sure I'll want another drink after this, this glass is enormous."

"Yeah.."

He leaned forward, taking my hand from across the table, running his thumb over my wedding band.

"So, I've been talking to some of the guys from work. They want me to go out with them this weekend. Would that be okay?"

"Yeah, of course. What are you guys gonna do?"

"I'm not sure.. probably watch a fight in a Dairy Queen parking lot"

"..what?"

"..Connor, I'm joking."

"Oh! Okay! That makes more sense!"

"Do you think that's what guys do?"

"I don't know, I've never really had guy friends! Not since elementary school!"

"Well, you will have a friend very soon."

"That's a relief. What are you guys going to actually be doing?"

"Probably just going to the bar to watch the hockey game. Not this one. The one that scott goes to has a tv"

"Cool. Sounds fun"

"Yeah! Are you sure you'll be okay home alone?"

"Yeah! Go have fun with your friends!"

"Thank you, you're the best!"

I nodded, taking another sip of my drink, still holding onto Kevin's hand.

"..I saw a dog today! He was walking down the street with his owner!"

"What kind of dog was he?"

"He looked like a bulldog. One of the real short and fat ones.."

"Oh, I love those!"

"Yeah! I just looked out the window and there he was!"

"I love dogs. I can't believe my mom got a dog after I left the house"
