Kevin woke me up with a kiss on the jaw. Well, multiple kisses.

"Happy birthday.." he whispered

"What're you doing?" I giggled, still half asleep.

"I'm saying good morning"

"Good morning... let me go back to sleep" i buried my face in the pillow

"It's time to get up! Come on, we have a nice day planned! It's your birthday, for goodness sake!"

"Can my birthday present be sleeping in?"

"You're such a pain, Connor.."

"Come on.. let's go back to sleep..." I smiled convincingly, rubbing my cheek against his chest

"...You know I can't say no to you." He sighed

"I know.." I smiled, sleepily, struggling to keep my eyes open.

He pulled me up on top of him, wrapping his arms around me. I felt secure enough to go back to sleep very quickly.

It was kind of pathetic that I needed him, in order to fall asleep. But it's probably got something to do with my stupid past. I thought I left that behind. But I still need constant reassurance of safety, which isn't realistic, isn't fair for other people, and is just plain dumb.

I woke up in an empty bed, Kevin's side already cold, meaning he'd been gone for a while.

"Kevin..?" I called out

"I'm downstairs!" He shouted back

I got out of bed, and slowly went down the stairs, the carpet itching my bare feet.

"Why weren't you in bed..?" I whined

"Because I wanted to make you breakfast."

"I'd rather you stay in bed with me. Even if I end up cooking"

"I just wanted to surprise you!"

"It's very sweet, thank you, I just wish we could have stayed in bed together."

"Yeah.."

"Thank you, though. Really. It's very sweet."

"Sure!"

"Well, what're you making?"

"I'm making you eggs and grits. They're right here, are you blind?"

"You're so mean!" I giggled

"I'm sorryy" he chuckled

"Jokes on you, man, I can't see crap! Legally blind, fool!"

"I would hope not"

"No... I'm tired."

"I can tell. Did you get enough sleep last night?"

"Yeah, I slept fine. I'm just still exhausted."

He frowned, putting my food on a plate.
