We headed off the our spot on the hill, a backpack over Kevin's shoulder.

"Are you sure you don't want me to carry something?" I inquired, walking alongside him.

"I'm sure! This day is all about you!"

"It's supposed to be about you as well! It's our anniversary."

"I want you to feel special."

"I want to get you a real gift. I know I got you that book you wanted and everything, I just... I want to get you a real gift."

"Darling, every day spent with you is a gift in itself. A wonderful gift."

"You're sweet.."

"I'm just telling the truth. Staying by my side another year is the best gift I could've gotten."

I blushed, looking down at the ground as I walked.
Kevin took my hand, squeezing softly. He does that rather often, but it never fails to make my heart beat faster.

He set down our stuff on the top of the hill, unzipping his backpack. He pulled out a picnic blanket, setting it down on the ground. We sat, Kevin pulling out another, even warmer blanket.

"Here. I figured you'd get cold.."

I placed the blanket over both our laps, setting my head on his shoulder.

"I brought some dinner and dessert.."

"Awesome. Whatcha got for me?"

"I made us some grilled turkey pesto cheese sandwiches... and some tomato soup. Because somehow you like tomato soup..."

"Shut up, you used to love tomato soup!"

"I know, I'm just giving you a hard time." He chuckled, kissing the top of my head

"What'd you bring for dessert?"

"Well, I made some snacks as well, I brought us some of those kale chips you like so much. And for dessert, I brought you..... cheesecake! Strawberry cheesecake! Your favorite!"

"My favorite!"

"Your favorite!"

"Thank you, Kevin... this was really thoughtful...."

"Happy anniversary, Darling..." he smiled, leaning in.

"Happy anniversary, Baby."

We finished the exchange with a kiss, his hand on my cheek.

"I love you..."

He pressed his forehead to mine, combing his fingers through my hair.

"I love you too..." I giggled

"What's so funny?" He smirked, planting another quick kiss on my lips.

"Nothing. I'm just happy..."

"I'm happy too, Sunshine. I'm happy too"

"I make you happy?"

"More than anything."

"....you want kids, right?"

"Yes. But later on. In my thirties.."

"Good. I want kids too..."

"Later on, right?"

"Later on. I want as much alone time with you as I can get."

"...i want the same."
