Turns out that his colleagues, the ones he thinks off as family, actually like you very much. You've been coming there more and more often, under Peters supervision, because let's be honest, you need to be supervised, not for your (past) drug problem, but because you can be a little...energetic.
Add Tony, Wanda and Sam into the mix and things could go very wrong, very fast.
Today you're -as always- hanging out with Peter and the other avengers again. Bucky watches you carefully, you don't know why, but you can feel his eyes burning on you and it kind of makes you uncomfortable.
Bucky sees that you're holding up an act to everyone in the compound. He just wants to find out why. He needs to talk to Peter, alone.
You hear your phone beep so you take it out, perfect opportunity for Bucky to ask Peter, who is always busy with you, to talk to him alone.
'Parker, I need to talk to you, it's important...' Bucky stands up and walks off with Peter following him.
You look at the messages piling up from one person and one person only. Liz. Then your phone buzzes as her caller ID appears on the screen. You hesitate to answer, knowing that whatever she's calling you about can't be good. Yeah a little side note, she hates you. She also has been texting you a lot of hateful messages.
You tap the green icon with a shaking hand before putting it against your ear. 'Hello?'
'Didn't I tell you to stay away from Peter?' Her voice is laced with venom.
You stay quiet.
'Didn't I tell you what would happen if you wouldn't listen to me?'
'He won't believe that the picture is me, it's obviously fake, he has been with me the whole time..'
'Has he though?, because I remember him not being there when the "picture" was taken, it gives him an idea what you were doing...I'm not afraid to use it y/n...I have you a warning by spiking your drink...you ignored it...you will regret that...'
'Once he found out the truth he was there.. you must understand that no matter what you try it won't work...and what's your deal anyway?, you never liked him, you wouldn't even bat an eye at him.' You try to keep it together.
'Because girls like you don't deserve guys like him...and besides, I kinda like him...so I need you out of the picture...'
'Why do you mean girls like me?!' You ask defensive and offended.
'Drug addicts of course...' she replies with the most innocent tone you've ever heard. 'You're just like your mother y/n, you'll be dying of an overdose soon enough...but anyway.... I warned you...' she hangs up the phone and you wipe away a tear as the ache in your chest grows.
And then you get something that makes your stomach drop, the picture she send to everyone in school, including Peter. It looks pretty real, apart from some minor mistakes that only you will be able to point out. It's a picture of "you" laying on a couch between some other people, needle in your hand. Peter is going to drop you after this...you're sure of it.
'So what did you want to talks about?, mr. Bucky sir?' He asks and Bucky smiles at the name, 'call me Bucky kid...and I wanted to talk about y/n...she seems a little off, she's acting fine but I can see she's not...I worry about her...'
'If something was up she would've come to me, she hasn't...' Peter replies.
'Kid...if there's one thing I know about women and them saying that they're fine...it's that they're not fine.. I can read her body language and she seems a little shaky, she flinches easily and she seems to be in her own world a lot...even when you're rambling to her about something, it's like she's not there...'
'I noticed it too but that's pretty normal for her...'
'I think someone is hurting her...maybe someone from school or at home...'
'She lives alone mostly, her mother died of an overdose and her brother is a really nice guy, married with kids, trust me I've looked at his background...'
'Then maybe someone at school, anyone who doesn't like her?'
'Uh Yeah this girl Liz, but she hasn't even spoken to her, she doesn't even look at her...' Peters phone buzzes and so he takes it out.
'Who is it?' Bucky asks.
'Liz...says she doesn't want to break me up with y/n but she has something to show me...she attached a picture...' he mutters as he opens the picture she send to him.
His eyes go wide before anger takes over, the longer he looks at the picture the angrier he gets. 'Well I know why she's been acting..she's using again..' he storms to the room you're in.
Your head snaps towards him as you quickly get up from the couch, putting your hands up in defence.
'Are you serious?!' He raises his voice immediately.
'Peter it's not real!, it's not me in that picture I swear!'
'Well it certainly looks like you!, how long have you been using again?!'
'I haven't used in a year and a half Peter!' You defend yourself.
But you slowly start to understand that maybe there is no bouncing back from this trick Liz pulled on you.
'Then where does this come from?, because it's a picture and it sure as hell checks out...'
'I was at home, watching my niece and nephew Peter...'
'Like I'd believe that!, y/n do not lie to me!'
'I'm not!, Liz threatened me that she would send that fake picture out if I wouldn't back off from you...'
'Stop lying...you're making up excuses...y/n... i said that if you use again I'm out and I meant it..'
'Whoa Peter...' Bucky tries to stop him.
'I'm sorry y/n...we're done...I guess Liz was right about you...I'm just too blind to see it..'
You don't have the energy to defend yourself anymore, your chest hurts from sobbing. Your eyes bloodshot and red from crying.
You nod before turning on your heels and walking out of the room. Out of the compound, walking to the house of your brother where you've been living. At least they will believe you.
You force yourself to stop crying, you don't want to make your brother and your sister in law worry about you. Your niece and nephew probably won't notice. You hope.
After a while of walking you reach the house, you walk through the door and straight to your room.
'Y/n?, is that you?' Jenny, the sister in law, asks as she walks after you. 'Hey what's going on?' She asks.
'Nothing I'm just tired...' you shoot her a small smile and she returns it. 'I'm just going to take a nap..'
'I'll come wake you when dinner is ready..' she softly comments and you nod before closing the door.
You plop down on your bed as you take a deep sigh, your hands cover your face as you feel the tears coming back.
'Y/n sad?' Your niece, Mary jumps on the bed next to you, you had no idea she was hiding in your room.
You sniff as you sit up again, wiping the tears away. 'Why?' She asks with those big green eyes, she's like the baby Rapunzel.
You inhale a shape breath as she wraps her arms around you, her frame sitting opposite from you. Her legs crossed.
'Because I had a fight with someone I love...' you explain and she nods. You can't really explain everything to her yet, she's still little. She wouldn't understand.
'About what?' She asks curious.
'Remember when I was really sick?' She nods. 'Well I am not sick anymore, but someone thinks I am and he got mad at me...'
'But you're not sick anymore!' She exclaims and you chuckle sadly at her. 'I know...but he doesn't believe me...'
'You shouldn't cry...' she moves her hands over your face to wipe away tears, but of course because she's little, the movements are a little...rough.
'Boys are stupid...' she mumbles and you let out a laugh.
Somehow your niece has this connection with you, this bond, she is always around you, not that your nephew isn't, but he's a little older already so he's mostly of doing his own thing. But your niece is drawn to you and you are to her. She sees you as a role model, she adores you, so seeing you like this makes her cheer you up in her own special way.
'You have no idea Mary...' you smile at her.
'You have no idea...'
