→ chapter eight

"what are you up to petal?" mcgonagall asked as she stared at the girl, chaerin smiled at the nickname. ever since she was little her grandmother had called her petal and cho flower, it was a family thing.

"secret" chae replied, not taking her eyes off the parchment.

"is it something for the weasley twins by any chance?"

chae froze momentarily before shaking her head, not wanting to get the twins in trouble. within seconds, the classroom began to fill and sora sat in her usual place next to chae.

"i've just seen the twins" she said as she pulled out parchment from her bag, readying herself for the lesson ahead. chae laughed.

"well, you do go to the same school as them"

"obviously, but they were acting bizarre"

"and that's not normal for them?"

sora laughed lightly, nodding her head.

"that's not my point, they're sneaking around snape's storage cupboard... what are you three up to?"

"why must you assume i'm involved?"

chae and sora looked at each other for a second before laughing. professor mcgonagall looked at the two girls, a stern look on her face before she started the class.

lunch came around quickly and as chaerin was eating her sandwich at the ravenclaw table whilst talking with luna, the familiar redheads came running over to her. they dumped the ingredients in her lap, smiling at her.

"your ingredients m'lady" said fred, as he bowed to the girl.

"yes we used our noble steed to track them all down" george added as he too bowed to the girl.

chae let out a chuckle before finishing her sandwich so she could speak to the boys without a mouth full of food.

"i'll make it for you tonight, come to the ravenclaw common room" she replied, fred and george groaned.

"the riddles are always hardest at the start of the year! just come to the gryffindor common room instead" george offered.

chaerin shook her head "no, i quite like my common room thank you very much"

"you only like it because it's full of books" said fred, the girl glared at him.

"what's gotten into you? why are you extra stubborn today?" george asked.

chae laughed at the two boys before grabbing them both by their ties and pulling them closer to her so she could whisper.

"maybe because if i get caught by snape brewing an ageing potion, i'll be the one in detention cleaning the dungeons!" she whisper yelled at the boys, causing them to laugh.

"you think we'd let you go down alone?" said fred, as the twins raised their eyebrows at the girl.

"well i'd like to think not"

"then you are thinking correctly" george said.

that evening, all students were required in the courtyard before the welcoming feast. chaerin couldn't explain how excited she was to finally see fleur again, she knew fleur would be happy to see her, she was hoping beauxbatons would choose to sit at the ravenclaw table.

chae stood next to fred and george, watching in amazement as beautiful horses pulled in a carriage. it was truly a graceful entrance, the students watched in anticipation as the door opened, it felt as if time was slowing. finally, a large woman stepped out, chaerin would have been surprised at the woman's height but then again, hagrid was just as tall.

the nerves in chae's stomach began to swim faster as the students stepped out, she was anxious to see fleur. the hogwarts students stared at the french girls, stunned by how beautiful they were.

chae turned her head to sneak a glance at fred, she looked away immediately when she saw the look on his face. she scoffed as the little pool of jealousy began in her stomach.

when chae locked eyes with fleur, fleur excitedly waved to her and chae waved back. the hogwarts students now staring at chae causing the girl's face to burn.

after beauxbatons arrived, the next guests came from the water. the crowd once again staring in amazement as the durmstrang ship began to emerge from the black lake, they all watched in excitement as the ship anchored.

soon enough the students were face to the face with the durmstrang boys, the girls evidently squealed and even chae couldn't help but let her mouth drop open a little. she was certain she'd never seen such handsome people other than fred of course.

fred couldn't help but notice as chae stood with her mouth open, he rolled his eyes at the girl before pushing her chin upwards, causing the girl to break from her trance. she laughed nervously. george shook his head at his brother and the girl, when were the two going to realise they were simply meant to be more than friends?

when everything was over, chaerin found herself in the great hall. she noticed how the professors were watching over the students very closely, specifically the weasley twins but she also noticed how a few were keeping an eye on her too. the hogwarts students sat at their designated house tables and waited for the arrival of the other schools so they could start the welcoming feast.
