"Jal hi jeevan hai!", Mukesh exclaimed after drinking two glasses of cold water, claiming that water was indeed the elixir of life, "It doesn't feel like December in Chennai."

"It either floods the roads or over the body.", Xavier let out a small laugh, "Too humid."

"Yes, I am perspiring like a nervous maniac.", Sonali huffed, "Talking about nervousness, your fiancé is living with you, right?"

Mukesh chuckled, "You are determined to know about the things that shouldn't concern you."

"Everything about my son worries me.", she muttered, "I have seen what he has--"

"She doesn't live here.", Xavier interjected, holding Dhriti as she devoured her KitKat, "Once in a while, she does stay here.", he replied and after a pause he carefully added, "She's here today, taking a shower as we speak of now."

"Uh hun... I see...", she pressed her lips tight, "Good to know."

Samiksha yawned, "I had a long surgery to attend yesterday, too tired for your nonsense, Aai.", she turned to Xavier, "I just came to drop these two here... Deva! I want to sleep." she declared, "Once Krithika's done bathing let me know.", she lied flat on the sofa, laying her head on Xavier's lap and stretched her legs, "I'll sleep in the guest room."

Dhriti kept patting her mother's head, pulling her long hair and forming a cobweb. Xavier untangled Samiksha's hair from the toddler's tiny fingers. He blushed as he licked his lips, "Err... You can go and comfortably sleep there... Krithika is not occupying the guest room."

"Kaay?"

Sonali chortled, "Mother of a child and you are still unaware of how things work between a man and his woman. What kind of love marriage you did!?", she pulled Dhriti from Xavier's lap and started showing her the books that she liked out of Xavier's uninteresting dump.

Xavier winced, his left hand covering his face as he tried to hide himself from his Aai's jibes.

"Oh...", Samiksha's cheeks turned pink, "I assumed her to--"

"Your presumptions are better off in hospitals.", Sonali cut in and stood straight carrying Dhriti on her hip, "Shall we take a tour? I want to see how much capital my son has invested in this house."

Samiksha huffed and pushed herself to sit back, "I want to sleep!", she almost yelled.

Xavier motioned her to go to the guest room and she hurried without giving a glance back to them.

"You don't have to act like an Economics teacher here, Sona.", Mukesh sighed, "That role is defined only for the schools in Gondia."

"Whatever.", Sonali pecked Dhriti's cheek, "Every rupee matters."

Aai is so going to love Krithika. Xavier thought and chuckled at himself.

Standing in front of the wardrobe, Krithika judged her dresses.

Holding a beautiful churidar in her hand, "Hmm... This looks decent but it is too plain.", she mumbled, "Should I wear a saree? Aai would be impressed. But if I trip and fall..."

Xavier's closet had a full section for Krithika's attire. After the start of her frequent stays, she had shifted half of her dresses there for easy access to change and go to the office. And, Xavier being Xavier, he had bought tens and hundreds of apparel for her, filling the wardrobe with everything she loved.

"Lord Muruga, save me! I don't want to fall and embarrass myself in front of his parents.", she mumbled again and settled on a stunning pastel pink organza saree with ethnic motifs and a thin silver zari border.

Struggling for half an hour, she finally got dressed and applied kajal to her eyes. Adding a small round pottu on her forehead, she laughed at herself, "I look like a Sanskari Indian Woman. Impressive work, Krithika!"

Giving herself a final look in the mirror, she turned around and searched for her phone. She fiddled her fingers with her saree and cursed when she didn't find her bag anywhere in the room. Then, she remembered where she had thrown her bag last evening, "Damn you, Xav!"

Just on cue, Xavier entered the bedroom.

"Xavier, my bag is somewhere in the corridor, I need to find my mobile...", she rambled, her head bowed down as her finger adjusted the front pleats of her saree. She inhaled. Registering that she was enveloped with Xavier's essence, she snapped her head above.

He was standing close, so fucking close that it took everything in her not to pull him closer and kiss. Well, it seemed like he had no control as his left arm circled her waist, lifting her slightly and he bent down, crushing his lips to hers.

"Fuck, Kanmani... You look... Wow...", he murmured against her lips, "You make a thirty-four years old man horny like an immature teen, what kind of sorcery is this?"

"Thirty-five.", she broke their kiss, pushing him away with a smile painting on her face, "You'll be thirty-five in two months."

"Ah, you make me sound too old.", he rasped.

"You are ancient."

"Am I?", his right hand cupped her bosom and gently squeezed, "Seems like you are fascinated with the antiques."

"Xavier! For god's sake, your parents are here!", she admonished him and swatted his enticing hand, "Act like a responsible adult and introduce me to them rather than seducing me."

"That's an unfair accusation!", he scowled, his lower lip protruding out in a baby pout, "You were the one luring this innocent man in your trap."

She glared at him.

"What?", he feigned shock, "I came here to take my fiancé and introduce her to my parents who are waiting in the dining hall. Alas! But I find that an Apsara is in my bedroom to tempt me into something else, something very improper."

Biting her lips to hide her smile, she shoved his chest to his side and slipped past him to walk out of the bedroom.

"Kanmani, wait for me!"

Her steps were faster and she could hear his feet lazily strolling behind her, "You are busy with your indecent activities.", she replied.

"But my Apsara left me high and dry!"

She grinned and looked over her shoulder, "You know adequate ways to plead to her...", and heard him laugh aloud.

A/N

"Falak Tak Chal" was one of those songs for me that I got addicted to it years later. I have a habit of ignoring over-hyped songs and searching for underrated gems. I think this song was in the hype mode when "Tashan" got released and I completely ignored it until years later when I heard it and found Mahalaxmi Iyer's voice so soothing.
