"Such a marvelous ceramic artifact for the cocktease, huh?", Krithika giggled as Xavier nuzzled near her nape, her fingers embracing the beautiful ceramic centerpiece delivered to her directly from Amalfi Coast by him, "You'll tire me with your habit of gifting exquisite things."

Pulling her closer in his lap, "We'll see.", he hugged her tight from behind as his head laid on her shoulder, enjoying the softness of her luscious hair, and he kissed her left ear, "About the cocktease, we can rectify that situation."

He couldn't get enough of her. Every time she was in his lap, all he could do was try and grab the silky expanse of her long tresses, feel it against his hand, letting them bless his fingers with their love.

His skin felt the comfort in them and just like that, he was transported to heaven.

Life is good. He sighed.

"It's ticklish, Xav.", trying to move her head away from his breath fanning over her earlobe, she added, "It was your Machchan who ruined your chances to accomplish your kinky fantasy of having cybersex."

"Karthik visited?"

Xavier was surprised to know that her brother had come to check on her. Krithika had told him that once or twice a year her brother used to see her, mostly after festivities, with homemade sweets and snacks made by her mother, but this visit was unusual. It was surely odd, and he felt a little uncomfortable with this particular piece of information.

Just now I thought life was good.

"He couldn't stop himself from trumpeting about how great Mr. Joseph is and how Mr. Joseph is his hero!", she clicked her tongue, "Akka, pweaseee try to get an appointment to meet Mr. Joseph naaa...", using her fake voice she tried to mimic Karthik's pleading tone and ended with a muttering note of, "Nonsense."

Chuckling, he questioned, "Mr. Joseph is his hero? Why does your brother idolize me?", he inhaled her familiar sandalwood essence and immediately felt happy, "He is your father's only heir to his textile empire, isn't he?"

"Ha! Guess, three days back, who got to know that her adorable Thambi was never interested in business and wants to try his future in automotive engineering because he is greatly motivated by Mr. Joseph?", she angrily huffed, "Tada! It's me, Krithika Ashok."

"Are you jealous that he likes me?", Xavier carefully questioned, taking the personalized piece of ceramic out of her hold and placing it over the coffee table.

"Jealous?", she sneered, "I am not jealous, Xav... I am...How self-centered have I been? I don't know anything about anyone, Priya or Rashi or even my little brother!"

"Kanmani..."

"What?", she barked, "I always thought that I was the one struggling with all the toughest problems in the world, but every day I find that everyone has suffered something shitty or other and I never cared to ask them about it, never cared to understand others.", she continued, "I feel like I was just too focussed on myself. Am I a selfish being, am I awful, Xav?"

"No, you aren't anything near to that.", Xavier reasoned, moving her hair to the other side and looking at her lovely face, which held annoyance as her lips were pouting like a small babe,  "And you didn't ask anyone about them as you were busy fighting your battles, trying to survive."

"Oh god, now you and Karthik are reading the same idiotic motivational quotes or what?", she snapped at him, "I'll fucking burn that book or website from wherever you are getting these shit dialogues."

He maneuvered her over his lap and cupped her chin, "Everyone has struggled and everyone will have some struggles to fight, that's life.", using his index finger and thumb he stretched her lips to paint a smile on her gorgeous face, "You don't have to carry world's sorrow in your head, but rather you should smile for being able to be empathetic. And if you are concerned it's never too late to ask them about their life, if they find comfort in you they will share."

"How do you know?", she glared at him.

Storytime for my Kanmani, isn't it?
