"Satya, talk to me.", Xavier started.

Dhanya and Krithika were left to play chess after having lunch. Dhanya being Dhanya, had convinced Krithika to stay for a game. She just had that spell that only her sister could resist. Her big puppy eyes and sweet tone made everyone agree to her whims.

Xavier had followed Satya as she had left to look after her garden. She loved gardening, that was the only thing she loved apart from her work and occasionally singing. He used to joke that if they hadn't met, she would have been in a Horticulture business.

It was abundant with jasmine- her favorite flower. She walked while chatting to each plant as if they would respond to her. If anything, it looked cute. Intimidating Satya Devi, talking to bushes like they were her babies.

"Are you going to ignore me?", he called her again, while she kept her slow gait.

"Satya, you want me to beg?", frustrated he quipped, "Okay, here."

He went down on his knees and bowed while keeping his hand over his heart, "Forgive me, Your Majesty."

She turned, "Confess."

"What?", he looked at her, confused at her demand.

"Tell me what's bothering you.", she walked closer to him, "I want to know."

"It's just about the Xhasi--"

She put her index finger over his lips, shutting him up, "No lies."

There was no way out of this, if he lied again, she would find out anyway. This lady could break into his poker face and identify his emotions.

"I think...I am attracted to someone.", Xavier rushed, trying to not look at her face, "Please don't ask me about her."

"And?", her voice was soft.

Swallowing a big lump, "I am confused about it.", he finally confessed.

"I probably know about her.", she smiled at him, "I just wanted to hear about it from your sweet mouth."

His eyes widened as he looked at her in complete bewilderment. How would she know? Did she know!?

He stood straight and noticed her smile widening, "Why do you think I invited her here?"

What the fuck?

He choked in his spit and coughed wildly. It felt like someone had poked his throat with chilies. It burnt like hell, "What are you ta...talking about?", he stuttered.

"I notice everything about you, Xav.", she replied calmly as she circled her hand over his arms, "I was doubtful, but a few hours back when you stared at her as if she was a goddess, I knew."

"Satya...", his neck staineda hue of pink as he blushed like a teenager caught in the act of watching porn. He just couldn't believe that his best friend was spying on him and had caught him red-handed.

"I saw desire burning for her in your eyes.", she patted his arm slowly, "But I don't know if it is more than that..."

"Satya, I..."

"Don't hurt her or yourself in the process.", she continued, "If it's just an infatuation, please stop it."

He hung his head down, he knew that it wasn't just about him. This probably was about Satya and Narayan, and that there was more to their love affair. But he nodded.

"If your heart is not ready for it, don't ignite a flame.", she muttered, "It will burn down everything.", she ended in a sob as tears trickled down her face.

He held her hand tightly as she continued crying.

Was it only attraction that kindled his mind? Perhaps, he believed that it was just plain attraction, animal instincts, and nothing more. And Satya was right, he shouldn't feed this flame, it would turn into ugly scars.

But why wasn't his mind ready to let it go? He had been infatuated by Alisha when he was just a boy, it never had been a problem to forget it, to just evaporate it from his mind. Then why Krithika was like a drug?

"Xav?", Satya hugged him, laying her head over his chest, "I know you don't hurt anyone, but she's innocent... Don't do this to yourself or her."

He didn't have an answer to anything. He felt completely helpless yet his mind held onto one thing, and that was a strong emotion for Krithika.

They both sat together as her tears died. Satya's warning felt painful to accept but he knew that she spoke his conscience. And he had to stop playing around.

A/N

"Ei Suzhali" is such a refreshing song.

Funnily enough, while writing the character sketch of Krithika, I thought her to be a mix of Malathi from Kodi (Anupama Parameswaran) and Tara from OK Kanmani (Nithya Menen).
