"You were offering your almost naked self to the eyes of all the ladies at the coast of Italy, weren't you?", Krithika asked, stirring the mix of Upma, "Leaving your fiancé in Chennai and trying to seduce some Italian belle. That's some extremely admirable qualities in a man, Xav."

Krithika had taken leave for that day from the office. Her manager had grunted, "Again?", to which she had replied, "It's critical, I have an emergency."

Yes, it had been an emergency. She had immensely missed Xavier and as soon as he arrived, she wanted nothing but to be with him. It had been a life-or-death situation for her. Also, she had a good amount of paid leave in her account to be absent for more than two weeks if she desired to.

Shaking his head, Xavier smiled, "You have added more than the required water, Upma is going to be gooey."

"I am not participating in the Masterchef India, learn to adjust your sophisticated palate to whatever I cook.", she turned to face Ponnamma, "Yenne, correct thane?", asking the poor cook to agree with her statement, and moved to collect plates from the shelf.

Looking at Xavier, Ponnamma mouthed, "Paapa angry?", and gave him a tight-lipped smile as her eyes noticed the ongoing preparation of a virtually liquid breakfast. He motioned her to leave them alone and she slipped past him, whispering, "Thambi, no eat... I make you food after."

Grinning like a clown, he snatched Krithika's arm and pulled her closer, "Rather than the aroma of Desi Ghee, I smell sweet jealousy of my love in the kitchen.", switching off the hob, he hugged her and stared at her lips, "Your lips hold my world and you ask if I seek death elsewhere?"

"You and your poems."

He didn't mind her snarky remark.

"The moment when a new life is born in this universe, that nanosecond I write a thousand words for you in my heart. There are millions of letters for you hidden deep within me, still unsent, still unread, oh, how should I convey it to you?"

Angrily squirming in his hold, she hummed, "Hmm..."

"The beauty that a blind eye appreciates, my Kanmani, I dream of that every night. For this Lucifer, it is nothing but the image of your laugh. Your melodious tunes compete with that of the divine flute, oh, how Lord Krishna would envy me to not be able to play it."

She smiled.

"Oh darling, before the sun rises in the morning I find a ray of something, and it's not of any other belle but your light. What could the Apsaras do to me, as I find them to be nothing but bland in front of you?"

Krithika wanted him to stop with his treacherous poetry, which made her forget everything. She always felt that Xavier had his way with her, by singing all these stupid lines and kissing her with his sweet words.

Taking her lean fingers, he placed them over his shoulder, "The way your soft finger touches my skin, I ponder, what do you feel to be enticed by it? Then, I remember that it's your love that grows within me, that you sprinkle your priceless stardust on me, little by little, every time we make love."

"Okay, enough now.", she muttered and eyed the disaster that she was cooking, "You don't need to eat that Upma, it looks horrible."

"Why are you jealous, my love?", he cupped her chin, "I am all yours, should I chant that to you every time I breathe?"

She glared, "I saw those flashy photos of yours.", slightly scowling, she continued, "Some women might have had a few moments to appreciate the scene that you presented them with the water droplets gliding all over your tanned skin. My Kama Deva was being a public proper---"

"Your... What?", he guffawed, "I, Xavier Luficer Joseph, am your Kama Deva, huh?"

Slapping him over his chest, she replied, "As if you had no idea at all."

"That's some ego boost I needed for the day.", his left thumb caressed her lips as his eyes met hers, "The most beautiful woman in this universe confessing to me that I am her Kama Deva."

Her breath caught in her throat, and she slowly started to drown in his glittering golden eyes, "Xavier, I love you.", she whispered.

She could feel his heart beat faster against her palm, the way they sang a different poem to her, and her lips trembled. Love did so many things to her, it made her alive.

"You don't know how much I love you.", he responded and she smiled as he gently kissed her.

Eating the last slice of pizza, Krithika asked him, "Xavier, what if I ask you to marry me now?"

Xavier narrowed his eyes, "Now?", he added, "Krithika, is there something you are hiding from me? Something I should know, huh?"

"No.", she rushed, sitting straight on the sofa and hastily smoothening her kurti, "What would I hide from you?"

Krithika sensed that her fiancé wasn't convinced and turned her head to watch the T. V., Oppenheimer was admitting to Einstein about how he fucked up the world with his invention.

I should have kept my mouth shut, yes, I fucked it up.

"Did Karthik tell you something?"

Why did I have to blabber my mind to him?

She shook her head, "No.", but her ears heard him sigh and she gulped a big lump of saliva.

"He had asked for an appointment, right?", Xavier spoke in a very professional tone, "I'll ask my assistant to book a slot for this coming Monday. Would that be fine for him?"

"You don't need to clear your schedule for him."

"I want to.", there was a clear determination in his voice, "How else am I supposed to meet these kids who could be my future team?"

Or do you just want to meet my Thambi as you realize that I am indeed hiding things from you?

"Okay, I'll notify him.", she feebly added, "You won't talk to him about us, would you?"

"I can't promise you that."

Well, shit hit the roof, Krithika.

Pecking mushroom from her pizza slice, she retorted, "Then, I won't tell him about the appointment."

"I know where he studies, I would organize a college meet-up with the Xhasis if that fucking takes it for me to meet him."

Yes, he is pissed.

No, he is pissed because of you.

Muruga!

It's funny to write Krithika's POV, the way she is so conflicted about her love.

"Kavithaikal Sollava" is such a cute song, it was in my mind when I drafted this chapter.
