"Someone is glowing today, I don't think the reason is patriotism.", Priya chirped as she eyed Krithika.

That morning, they celebrated Republic Day by wearing clear white dresses along with red accessories to the office, everyone had been glowing a bit. Priya took a sip of her coffee, "Did we miss anything?"

Yes, Krithika was glowing brighter than the LED light in their cafeteria. She couldn't hide her happiness; her face constantly had a smile plastered over it.

Things that happened two nights ago were unforgettable and Krithika, for all the money in the world, couldn't stop herself from grinning like a fool.

Xavier liked her. He was as much attracted to her as she was to him. Xavier Lucifer Joseph, her dream lord, wanted to date her. And she had accepted it.

Though after saying yes to him, that night, she had thought about it when she had slept alone in her room.

She had doubted his intentions. But he was far too handsome and far too rich to be dating her. And a man like Xavier didn't need a woman like her to warm his body and bed, he would get anyone whom he wanted. Then, why her?

He was mature as well as powerful, she probably wouldn't be able to match his energy or aura. But he was the one who had asked her out not the other way round. If he wasn't interested in the prospect, why would he even indulge in her?

Was she a quest? A challenge that he wanted to attain? Was this all a plot to just fuck with her brain?

She did play hard to get but it wasn't because she was playing, she had felt something for him in her heart and had continuously dodged those feelings. She used to hate his guts but then one day she realized that the hate had evaporated into a liking, a craving need.

The next morning, she had woken up with a mind filled with dread and doubts. But it all had vanished in a second when she had read a message.

This is my personal number, my sweetheart. Only a few people whom I care about have this, don't share it with anyone.

Also, I am eagerly waiting for the upcoming Saturday.

-Xav.

Xavier had made his point with a simple message and she had relaxed. She was probably overthinking. Perhaps, he was genuine in his interest. And she couldn't be any happier than that.

They- particularly her- had decided to keep it a secret and meet outside the work, during weekends. She never wanted to be a fodder for gossip milling around the office. Already her one-week suspension and a dance with Xavier during New Year's Eve had placed her on the black list, she didn't want to snatch the first rank as Boss's Bitch.

"Is this about sir?", Priya snapped her fingers in front of her face, "Are you guys dating?"

The fuck!?

"What!?", she shrieked, her voice way higher than normal.

All three of her friends flinched back at her tone, "Rathna sir, and you?", Akash muttered, scared from her outburst.

"No!", she hissed, "I told you guys that we both are just friends."

"Yeah, that's how it starts.", Priya bit her crusty chocolate cookie that they had received in the morning from Republic Day celebrations. She tipped in, "It's like a foreplay."

"Maybe it's for you both.", Krithika waved her hand between Akash and Priya. Rashi laughed aloud.

"Fuck it, I'm out.", Akash flustered as he kicked his chair back and stood straight, "You guys are just--"

"Lewd?", Priya arched her brows as her tongue slowly and seductively licked her lips to wipe any remnant of the cookie, "Filthy?"

Krithika and Rashi both grinned at Akash. He glared at Priya and walked away muttering something, probably long curses.

"He's prudish.", Rashi commented.

"Well, not much, he enjoys talking dirty.", Priya chugged her coffee and smirked, "My man is not at all that gentleman."

"That's too much information.", Rashi scrunched her nose in disgust, "Now my brain started to paint a vivid picture of it."

"I can help out with the details if you want.", Priya leaned back in the comfort of her chair.

"Eww, please change the topic.", Rashi chided.

Krithika chuckled at their banter.

"Yeah, we can think of a very detailed picture of you and Rath--"

"Fuck off", Rashi slapped Priya's shoulder and stood in a hurry. She all but ran, slamming into strangers on her way out.

Krithika took the last sip of her coffee as she stood, "Mark my words, one day Rashi is going to murder you."

Priya shrugged and stood next to her, "She needs to speak up, daydreaming about that man won't work."

She sighed as they started walking, "Not everyone is comfortable with sharing their feelings or confessing them. It takes time."

Priya gave her a mocking look, "You seem to have a lot of expertise, please enlighten."

Krithika rolled her eyes, "I don't need to be an expert. I know that every person has their boundaries and limitations, not everyone can be as forward as you.", she added, "People tend to build layers of impenetrable walls with every trauma they face as they slowly lose faith in anyone."

Priya gave a slow clap, "You should change your career, you have a great future in the department of mental health and therapy.", she sighed, "Jokes apart, I do believe in whatever you said but there's a limit to self-sabotaging and self-deprecation. I hate when my friends can't see their worth and avoid taking steps forward for the things they love and deserve."

Krithika glanced at her, amused by her response, "Under all this rudeness, brutality, and honesty, you are such a softie, Priya."

Priya clicked her tongue, "I care for my friends, even if they are idiots.", she concluded.

They both waved their goodbyes before walking to their respective departments.

Krithika's phone pinged and her skin heated in excitement.

'Will pick you up from your place tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. I hope that's fine for you, sweetheart.

P. S. Don't wear anything red, please.'

I have a love-hate relationship with "Ennai Ithu", I mean I either listen to it ten times a day continuously or forget its whole existence from my music library XD

And, I came to know that my husband also feels same XD
