"Hello, Chakudi!"

A smile tugged at the corner of Krithika's lips, "Very busy?", she sipped her coffee while mocking Rathna's carefree attitude.

Comically raising his brows he questioned, "Who, me?", he leaned back into the comfort of the cafeteria chair, crossing his arms behind his head, "Well, unlike your boyfriend, I am just a simple employee of the Xhasis. I do get paid well, but I don't have to lose my mind over every tiny thing."

Your boyfriend.

Krithika flustered, "He's not my boyfr--"

"Is it?", he stared at her face, "Well, surprise Chakudi, I have eyes, a very good visual strength, and an excellent capacity to notice things.", he narrowed his eyes, "You agree or not, he's your boyfriend. Dating for almost half a year and you keep denying plain facts."

"That's not a long time."

"Have you seen that man, the way he looks at you whenever you cross him?"

"Why are you studying him!?", she hissed.

He threw his hands in exasperation, "Do you even listen to what I say, I just told you that I notice things."

Oh, then why haven't you noticed Rashi yet?

Shaking his head he continued, "Chakudi, he's completely smitten. He keeps smiling like a loon in the general meetings and don't get me wrong, but Mr. Xavier L. Joseph never showed any emotion let alone happiness. I have been under him for four years now and can confidently attest to that."

"He was a cheerful boss, even before we started to date.", she hesitated.

"Do you love him or not?", he went straight to the point.

Her hands pressed her forehead, trying to think of a way out of his question. It was a rather difficult question, considering she had no prior expertise in such emotion. What was love?

Xavier had become her close confidant, she had shared about her strained relationship with her parents, about struggling through prickly sexism in her small town and society in general. He had held a grim expression while nodding in agreement. He had looked distant as if he wanted to share something with her but never did and rather had commented, "I know how some men are nothing but monsters." and she had agreed.

She had shared about her financial anxiety and he had said with a soft smile, "Darling, you are earning well, and I am sure that you'll do great in the future. Your hard work shines brighter than the fucking Sun.", completely supporting her dedication and independence rather than spewing about him being loaded with money and that she shouldn't be worried about it.

That was the beauty of Xavier Lucifer Joseph, who listened to her cry about her petty daddy issues, the most parsimonious attitude known to humankind and everything. He had all the patience in the world to let her rant and silently hum his agreement.

Once she had felt frustrated with his silence and had snapped, "What? Are you just going to hmm to everything?", he had loudly chuckled, "I can give my opinion on few things, sweetheart. But you might have a better idea about cinema as I genuinely don't know about the movie Alaipayuthey. I watch only documentaries.", she had retorted with, "Mani Ratnam is a such a genius, you are missing out so much.", and then they had watched the movie together.

The only time he had shut her mouth was when she had blabbered to him about her insecurities regarding her skin complexion and body shape. His eyes had turned darker, "Do you know what you do to me?", he had asked her huskily, pressing his body to hers and she had whimpered, her abdomen feeling his bulging erection, "Do you know how fucking gorgeous you are?", and then he had kissed her as if his life had depended on that kiss.

She knew that she could be herself with him, no guards required to shield herself. She trusted him with everything in her life. She knew that he wouldn't h--

You...trust him?

"Krithika, are you okay?", Rathna asked empathetically, "I was just... I don't know. I just don't want you to get hurt or...", he sighed, "Under his thick skin and all the ruthlessness, Xavier sir is a man with the golden heart and most of the employees are delighted to see him happy."

She stared at him.

"You...you are scared that I'll hurt him, aren't you?", it felt like Rathna had cut her with a hot metal blade, "Why would you think that?"

He remained silent for a moment. It felt like eons had passed at that moment, her heart weighing like a heavy boulder inside her chest.

"Because I can see love in his eyes for you, but you never answer."
