The interview went on for another hour covering every topic, technical and psychological, the latter being a hidden agenda. Krithika replied to most of them, not all but surely covering enough.

"It was nice talking to you, Krithika.", Satya signaled the end of their interview. Glancing at her wristband she shook her head, "Hope to see you under my team, you'll get an email if selected."

They both stood together as simultaneously Krithika reached out to shake hands with Satya.

"It was a real pleasu--"

A loud knock on the door startled Krithika and she slightly jumped back. It made her discontinue her exciting acknowledgment to Satya. She cursed her luck and turned to look at the person who had interrupted her long fangirl speech.

It was a man, indeed a very handsome man. Krithika stared- almost gaped- at him, she had seen him somewhere but was not sure where. Her brain tried to recollect her memories but failed to pinpoint them.

"Xavier, you came here today?", Satya questioned, her voice full of disbelief.

And it snapped in her mind.

So, this is him, the Xavier Lucifer Joseph.

As much as she adored Satya, she wasn't keen on this partner of hers. Krithika knew that the Xhasis was Xavier's idea but she believed that Satya Devi had an upper hand in their joint success. And to prove that, Satya had been the face of the Xhasis. People never saw Xavier, they just knew he existed behind all this, the brain that hid inside the skull.

"Oh, for fuck's sake, this is my company too, Satya.", he closed his eyes shaking his head, "I have already told you that I'll be here daily, there's no reason to mock."

"There's no reason to mock." Satya mimicked him, "I was just surprised, not mocking."

Feeling like a kitten stuck between two lions, she looked at both of them. As much as she was enjoying the playful side of her idol, she was equally reeling in from looking at Xavier. He was like a beast, ready to pounce at anyone. She had heard stories about him and none of them had a positive note to it. He had probably fired employees for petty issues, scolded trainees for asking naive questions, and many more. He aimed for perfection, and nothing less.

Her collegemates had warned her, but she neglected, considering that her position was under Satya as she was going to deal with the business side of the work and not technical, yet watching him in real life made her uncomfortably squirm.

He truly looked like the Devil- a gorgeous one at that- as everyone had pictured. He was wearing a very boring formal, but the fit was so perfect- delicious should be the word- that it clung to his chiseled body. It made the dull costume into a glorious piece of clothing. Her eyes slowly traveled north, absorbing every delectable muscle, and met his eyes. Heat crept up on the back of her neck and she swallowed painfully at the realization that she had been gawking at him. And he fucking saw that.

You don't check out your future boss, Krithika! That's so unprofessional.

There was no emotion on his face, not a smirk of being able to attract a woman or being-- She stopped her rambling thoughts and lowered her eyes under his strong gaze, feeling timid.

"I am leaving.", his deep voice filled the room, "Let me know if you want to come for a drink, I have to have one after that American idiot fried my brain." his voice trailed off as he left.

"Okay, Krithika, I guess that's all about today." Satya nodded, guiding her way out, "Also, please do wear a comfortable dress.", she paced, her heels clicking faster to catch Xavier's long strides, "We do have a code but...saree is not compulsory."

Krithika felt embarrassed as she realized that Satya had seen her struggle with her choice of clothing.

You had to embarrass yourself in front of Satya?

Satya caught Xavier towards the exit and Krithika tried to follow them. Her tiny steps couldn't cover much of the distance and she huffed, trying to not fall again while handling her stupid saree. The distance grew longer and she was left alone near the gate.

Krithika stared at the far end of the campus, her hands clutching her file, and noticed her both bosses- well, would be soon-to-be bosses- walking towards a fancy car. She watched Satya animatedly talking to Xavier while he showed the least interest. He didn't even smile, wasn't that something considered to be rude?

She shrugged nonchalantly; it wasn't her problem that he was rude. Walking towards the street she tried to fetch an autorickshaw. She felt a presence behind her as if someone was looking at her. Turning her head she noticed that Xavier was staring at her from afar, his face holding the same stoic expression. She dared to smile and his response was to turn his back on her as he entered inside his car.

Shooting a glare at him, she turned around and searched for her phone inside the bag. She saw him as he turned his car around the corner and their eyes met for a second before he drove past her. It was foolish of her to smile at a stone, "Asshole."
